Nokia Poland has released a new video on its YouTube channel, showing the city of Kraków from above. The company has previously teased the "Nokia Copter" (see this video for the copter device itself) with numerous short films, but today viewers are able to see the end result. Recorded on a Lumia 1020, we're able to see sections of the city from unique angles.

Nokia not only announced new products and accessories at Nokia World 2013, the company also unveiled some new software features - one being Nokia Refocus. The app enables you to capture an image, much like you would with the Nokia Camera app, with the ability to alter which elements of the photo are in focus afterwards.

It's a really cool idea that Nokia is now discussing on their Conversations blog.

The Verge reports that "Batman" is actually the internal codename for a new low-end Windows Phone from Nokia, not the Lumia 1320 / 929 as reported by @evleaks. It's believed to sport a large display, be an affordable smartphone and it may fall in the 6xx range. According to sources familiar with Nokia plans, the handset will be placed just above the Lumia 625, a low-cost Windows Phone with the largest display on any Lumia device.

We have seen the Nokia Lumia Windows Phone make cameo appearances in movies, television shows and music videos. The latest cameo is in the movie trailer for the upcoming Warner Brothers title Grudge Match with, what appears to be, the Lumia 920 finding it's way into the lime light.

The movies feature Robert De Niro and Sly Stallone playing retired boxing rivals who come out of retirement for... well...a grudge match.

What's that? The new iPhone 5C ships in multiple colours? That's cute, right? Microsoft thinks so too. We covered some humorous jabs yesterday, published by Nokia and Windows Phone UK on Twitter, but today we've been alerted to Microsoft Asia's attempt and we couldn't simply let this one slide on by without letting you guys know about it. It's pretty good.

When it comes to the brand ‘Windows Phone’ everyone has an opinion and everybody is also a self-appointed expert on marketing. Even here at Windows Phone Central, a lot of comments lean towards the idea that Microsoft's brand is baggage, a discussion that is amplified with the proposed purchase of Nokia and the future of the Lumia trademark. The reason for then negative perception most often proposed? Its deleterious association with Windows desktop, of course.

While by no means scientific, the search indexing site What Does the Internet Think? returns some interesting results when looking up ‘Windows Phone’ that may surprise some. The site, which uses a proprietary algorithm to measure popularity and perception of a search term, claims that ‘Windows Phone’, at least how it is being used on the internet, has 56.1% positive coverage. (The term ‘Lumia’, while not popular for search, does bring in an impressive 63.3% positive result).

The dust is still settling on the huge news that Microsoft has begun proceedings to purchase Nokia's devices and services business for €5.44 billion. Whilst it's still far too early to know how this will affect consumers, developers and other OEMs in the Windows Phone space one thing we can see for sure is how the stock market is reacting.

Heading into the last quarter in 2013, it is becoming increasingly clear that Windows Phone is now solidifying itself as the third alternative for smartphones (see the latest IDC report). While sales are still miles behind iOS and Android, Windows Phone as a platform is finally being treated more equally by retailers and consumers.

Part of that apparent victory, in typical Microsoft fashion, is due to missteps by Redmond’s competitors. Years ago, BlackBerry (then called RIM) basically owned the enterprise market. Fast forward to 2013 and with BlackBerry 10 on the market with a handful of new devices, it’s becoming clear that it’s just not enough to regain that momentum.

The site IT Wire has performed some store-checks for the new BlackBerry Q10 and Z10—two devices we actually own and occasionally use ourselves. The site tried to get a statement from Australia’s telco’s Telstra, Optus, and Vodafone but received no comment about those BlackBerry sales. Not hindered, IT Wire then spoke with Harvey Norman, Optus and Telstra franchises for their opinions on BlackBerry’s prospects.

Nokia has pushed through an update for its magical image transfer app, PhotoBeamer. The Windows Phone app enables you to fire across images from a smartphone to a web browser, using the PhotoBeamer website. The best part about the service is that its all done wirelessly through WiFi or a mobile network - no need to plug your phone in to pull that single image to show others on a larger screen.

Smartphone insiders @evleaks tweeted a simple, but straight-forward message about the Nokia 6-inch Windows Phone 8 device codenamed "Bandit," denoting that it will officially be called the Nokia Lumia 1520. @evleaks has a longtime track record of being correct with the information they release, so we think the chances are pretty good that we'll be hearing the name Lumia 1520 soon.

Nokia has published a rather humorous advertisement for its Lumia Windows Phones. Titled "127 seconds," it's a spoof of the movie 127hours. If you haven't yet seen the film, it's about a canyoneer who became trapped by a boulder in an isolated slot in Blue John Canyon. This time round, we're witnessing a man trapped by a falling wardrobe. If only he could use his smartphone to call for help.

Who said it were only humans who could work a smartphone? Pictured above is a cheeky little chap who's currently wielding a Lumia Windows Phone. Visitors were not only able to take shots of the monkey enjoying some tunes through Xbox Music, but they probably found themselves being filmed for the others in the pack to have a gander at later on in the evening. So how does a primate come to own a Lumia smartphone?

Earlier today we’ve seen a dizzying amount of updates rolling out for a variety of Windows Phone devices around the globe. It started with the Lumia 920 beginning to roll out GDR2 for our friends down under on Telstra. We then pieced together this wasn’t going to be an isolated occurrence once reports of more Lumia 920s around the globe began seeing the update.  Then Verizon and T-Mobile joined the action and started pumping out updates for the Lumia 928, the Lumia 521, and the Lumia 810.

It’s been dizzying to keep up, but what about our friends running devices like the Lumia 620, 720, and 820? When do you get your update?
