Love is certainly in the air with a Nokia Twitter contest in the UK, but Nokia France is pushing the bar up higher by setting up a floral display of roses on the the Place du Palais Royal, in Paris. The public will be given roses for free, along with a box that contains a card with a "2 for 1" meal offer.

From February 9th to March 11th, 2012, Nokia will offer the "2 for 1" deal with every Nokia Lumia 710 or 800 purchased to mark the "Amazing Valentine's Day". Participating restaurants will be able to offer the lucky couples a deal on the menu. Check out the offer on Facebook for more information, and the rules of course.

Nokia has hosted a number of events in London the past few months, including Nokia World and a performance featuring deadmau5 with a huge video presentation. Already tripling their expenditure wasn't enough as it seems the Finnish manufacturer still isn't done. Should you be out and around London and happen to spot a London black cab (taxi) wrapped up in Lumia promotion material, you'll be sure to hail it since Nokia are offering free rides.

The handset maker has paid black cab drivers so you don't have to. Fitting in nicely with Social Media Week (February 13-17), which Nokia is a sponsor of, this advertising stunt is yet another effective campaign under the marketing team's belt. Bravo.

We were all excited (and surprised) with the rumours and subsequent announcement by Nokia surrounding the white Lumia 800. Being already available in black, cyan and magenta, the white variant adds a refreshed look to the 800 range of Windows Phones. Here in the UK, availability of the white Lumia 800 is exclusive to Phones4U, which has contracts available on O2, Orange, and Vodafone.

According to a blog post on the website, the handset is available for pre-order and Phones4U will be shipping the handset early March. It's unsure how long the exclusivity will last.

The Lumia 710 has been featured in a full-page newspaper advertisement, showing off the deal that Canadian carrier Rogers has on the table for the handset. The Toronto Start Newspaper where the advert was spotted is distributed almost entirely within the province of Ontario.

As pictured above, the advert illustrates the deal that enables consumers to pick up a 710 for just $49.99 (on a lengthy 3-year contract).  Should you not be interested in signing your life away for Nokia's Windows Phone, you can purchase the handset for $254.99 on a no-term deal.

Yesterday we mentioned that Nokia was finally launching in Malaysia, pushing the Lumia 710 and 800 big time with some nice celebrations and giveaways. Now we have a superb video of the event published by Smashpop.net who were there covering the whole thing.

What can we say besides that it's great to see crowds gathering and getting excited for both Nokia and Windows Phone? You can feel the momentum building. (Although we we chuckle a bit at the slogan "Gets you to interesting faster".)

Make sure you check out the rest of the photos at smashpop.net.

Nokia planning Green and Red Lumia 800?

A new video has been spotted created by AdContentMedia featuring the Nokia Luna Bluetooth Headset. And while that headset is itself pretty darn awesome what is really eye catching are those two new colors for the Lumia 800: Red and Green.

While we've seen fuchsia/magenta/pink before and we all know cyan and black, but green and red have not been shown off before and it remains to be seen if they are actually planned or just concepts at this point. Nokia has certainly experimented with other colors as described in yesterday's article on the subject and we've heard of yellow, green and white before back in December. Of course since that December interview, the white Lumia 800 (and maybe even a white 900) have come forward.

We'll throw this in the "sure, why not?" camp as we know Nokia like their colors and it would make sense for them to extend those offerings if the Lumia line keeps selling well. Personally, we're pretty excited about green and would love to see that infused in some polycarbonate goodness from our Nokia friends. What do you think?

[Edit: As pointed out in comments, these could also be soft-shell cases which have nearly the same color offerings, though it would have been more efficient to advertise that fact. Still, it's plausible]

Check the video after the break and catch the new colors at about 0:40 and onward.

Nokia Conversations has published an article that walks us through how the colours came to be for the N9 and Lumia 800/900 handsets. Tiina Aarras works at Nokia as a materials designer and is responsible for the intense colour choices we have with Nokia Windows Phones. The average consumer wouldn't believe there to be much thought behind the process, but Aarras explains how complicated it was to get it 'just right'.

"There are hundreds of colours to choose from, but it’s not just about picking a colour. The start of this project was dominated by working on which colours work with the right materials and finishes. These products are about what you hold in your hand, and what you see on the screen. It was about taking away everything that is not needed, and leaving you with the best."

Everything came together for the handsets with the use of premium plastic (for enhanced antenna performance), since more colours were available compared to the choice with metal. Aarras and the team worked with 100 colours to narrow them down to just four, which are what we see today - black, magenta, cyan and white. Being inspired by the CMYK group (Cyan-Magenta-Yellow-Black), Aarras ensured that the idea of purity shown in the end result. Would be interesting to see a yellow version too?

"Those colours are pure, defined and exceptional. They’re distinctive modern design icons and people recognise them. Because these are primary colours they contrast with each other – put them together with a black glass screen, and they are ideal for producing a bold and confident approach."

As well as choosing the right colours, Aarras explains that their next mountain to climb was to have the colours permeate the whole product. Close collaboration between chemists and dye suppliers was required for the team to achieve exactly the right pigment.

"The beauty of these phones is that different people can use these colours and give a totally different expression to them."

The Lumia 800 has won multiple awards at the CES 2012 convention and continues to grab the attention of those who see the handsets in use or on promotional material. The Lumia family is rumoured to receive more varients should demand call for more choice. What do you make of the available colours? Let us know in the comments below.

The Nokia Lumia 710 (our review) is now available for purchase from both Three and Vodafone in the UK, with contract prices starting from just £20. Should you wish to buy the handset outright, Three is offering this option for £199 - not a bad price for a Windows Phone Mango handset.

The Lumia 710 packs a 1.4 Ghz processor, 3.7" screen, 5MP camera, 8GB storage, and -of course- comes loaded with the exclusive Nokia Lumia app bundle. Both networks also offer the Lumia 800, should you require some extra umph.

Last week Microsoft was offering customers the chance to pre-order the AT&T Lumia 900 4G Windows Phone for a $25 up-front fee. The Verge has reported today that the software giant has retracted this offer, so those who are eagerly awaiting the handset will no longer be able to act now. A Microsoft spokesperson has stated that those who are interested "should stay tuned to the Microsoft Store Facebook Page".

Microsoft has offered no reason for the withdrawal, but sources have told The Verge that Nokia has plans to announce a price and launch date 'shortly', though it's not known if this has any relation to the offer closure. The rumoured date and pricing of the Lumia 900 were set at March 18th for $99.

Nokia has announced that they are aware of a bug with the Lumia 710, where a user disconnects from a call but the screen continues to report the call as being connected. Not only is this a visual irritant, it led users to believe that they were being additionally charged for the delayed call ending.

Owners took to the Nokia support forum to cry out for assistance on the issue. This is not the first problem Nokia Windows Phone owners have come across, with the 800 being plagued by battery life issues. Official Nokia Support representative 'Unwired' published the following statement:

"Nokia is continuing to analyze this software issue and is close to a fix. The fix will be made available via Zune as soon as possible. It is difficult to say when. One other important fact about this issue is that the phone modem is responding to the call disconnect signal from the touch display, the call is taken down as it should. The issue is that the user interface displays the call disconnect button but is should not. Consequently consumer are not being excessively billed for a call that seems to be staying up."

Good news for owners of the handset that a fix is well on its way, and that no additional charges will be applied to your bill, but until the update is released a reboot will be required to rid the pesky call screen.

The white version of the Lumia 800 is available for pre-order on Fnac.pt, unlocked for €549, and will be released on February 23rd. Nokia's latest colour features a glossy finish and packs a punch when it comes to resisting scratches/dents with a polycarbonate unibody that has been dyed all the way through.

While the pricing for the mid-level handset is pretty steep, it's a unique choice for anyone still waiting to upgrade from their current device.

The above advert is something special and unique. While 80% of the commercial features a similar presentation of the Lumia 800, which recently launched in the country, the first few seconds is an interesting introduction. The start of the advert is integrated into a popular Swedish station's logo and kicks off at the start of commercial breaks. Sweden has also witnessed a more festive 800 advert being aired

Yet another video in the world of Windows Phone news, this time it's Nokia Malaysia with "The Amazing Everyday" advertising campaign. In the above montage, we see the Nokia Lumia team heading out and about driving alongside the Nokia promotion truck, handing out leaflets, cakes and different coloured umbrellas, and generally having a great time with the public.

The Lumia 710 and 800 will both launch in the country on February 10th.

It's a Lumia 800 white announcement day today it seems, and now Nokia Netherlands has decided to join in with a video introduction of the handset. This is a perfect addition to the Lumia family of Windows Phones from the Finnish manufacturer, we've got a number of black handsets so it's good to see some opposite options being made available (and we know Apple fans go crazy for white versions of the iProducts).

As mentioned in the announcement, the white Lumia 800 will be heading to the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Scandinavia, Finland, Poland and Switzerland first, with other countries to follow.

To fit in nicely with Nokia showing off the upcoming Lumia 800 white version, SlashGear have got their hands on the device. Looking fairly impressive, this handset features a unique feature that differentiates this version from the other themed 800s. As can be seen in the above video (as well as the photo shots below) the white 800 sports a glossy finish, bouncing light in all manner of directions, and looks almost identical to the N9 variant.

Don't allow the glossy look to fool you though, this is still a polycarbonate unibody that has been dyed all the way through. The white Lumia 800 is expected to be available later this month in the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Scandinavia, Finland, Poland and Switzerland, with other countries to follow. Check out a few shots of the handset after the break. So, what colour are you?

Nokia has published a new photo on their Facebook page which shows three Lumia 800s being held for display, while a fourth hand poses in the same position but holds no handset. What's significant about this photo are the nails. We have colours matching the 800 that's being held, but the fourth hand (which isn't holding a device) has white nails. Anyone remember a white Lumia 800 coming soon?

With so much Nokia news these days, we're just going to start recapping what we can to save space around these parts.

First off is the Czech Republic where the Lumia 710 and 800 went on sale two days ago. At least one online retailer is reporting great numbers so far with Alza.cz showing the Lumia 800 as their top seller. Not a bad a start at all and something we're getting used to these days.

Next up is Indonesia. We reported earlier that that country was due to get the Lumia 710 and 800 as well and while no firm date was given, it was stated to be in February. In fact, two large big events are planned to coincide with the launch--one a massive developer day featuring 800 devs making 800 Windows Phone apps and the other a Facebook contest.

Now we're getting word that pre-orders for the devices will start on February 6th with the following offers:

  • Nokia Lumia 800 - IDR 5.250.000 (about USD 585), incl. Nokia Purity HD Stereo Headset by Monster (WH-930) and 12-month of Unlimited Internet package by XL.
  • Nokia Lumia 710 - IDR 2.900.000 (about USD 325), incl. Nokia Purity Stereo Headset by Monster (WH-920) and 12-month of Unlimited Internet package by XL

Heck, we're even hearing that some Nokia flagship stores are being renamed, temporarily, to Lumia stores. Not a bad deal and we're real excited to see how Indonesia kicks things off here as they will be an important market to watch.

The magenta version of the Lumia 800 is well on its way with Carphone Warehouse expecting the handset to be available this month. Joining the cyan and black colours, it will be interesting to see how the pink catches the eyes of females and those who would be fond of such a coloured phone (I personally owned a j700 back in the day).

Should you be eager to see what plans you can get Nokia's magenta Windows Phone on, check out Phones4U (link below) who have got O2, Orange and Vodafone contracts available, from just £20 a month.
