During our recent interview with Nokia’s Chris Weber we asked whether or not the company would start showing off some specific features of their Lumia 920 (and other phones) in targeted ads. It looks like the answer is yes as Nokia today posted a new video urging users to switch to Lumia as the 920 and 820 are shown off.

As expected the ad concentrates on just a few specific areas of the Windows Phone 8 Lumia line: excellent photography, wireless charging and augmented reality (City Lens).

The style of the ad nicely juxtaposes with Microsoft’s own Windows Phone 8 ads with their “Meet the new Windows Phone 8 Reinvented Around You” message (see below) and we have a feeling the two companies collaborated to maintain that consistency.

Nokia has kicked off 2013 with a new challenge where two selected winners will bag a pair of Purity HD headphones by Monster. Sounds tempting, right? All that's required is for owners of new Lumia Windows Phones to match the colour of their device with an object or surrounding and snap a photo. They emphasise the cooler, more out there, the better. A few examples were provided by the team to get the idea engine started (see above).

We recently reviewed Podcatcher and whilst the app is a relative newcomer to the Windows Phone Store it has already caught our eye. One of the reasons for that was the developer's rapid fire updates, quickly adding features and fixes to the app.

Transfer My Data is a Nokia exclusive app to allow quick and painless migration of your data from your old phone to your shiny new Lumia device. Read on to find out more.

In planning for the next round of Windows Phones, indications are strong that Nokia is working on an aluminum body for a high end Lumia model.

Codenamed Catwalk, the aluminum Lumia will be lighter and thinner than the current crop of polycarbonate bodied Lumias. The Catwalk would replace the Lumia 920 as Nokia's centerpiece Windows Phone.

No word on hardware specs or when we might see the Catwalk beyond "later this year".  Catwalk is sure to be a hot topic of discussion next week at the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show.  We'll be in attendance at CES and if we hear more on the new aluminum Lumia, we'll pass it on.

Source: The Verge; Thanks, Catwalk, for the tip!

The Windows Phone 7.8 update for Lumia smartphones is reportedly available through Nokia Care i.e. local store/support centers, scattered throughout the world including parts of Europe and India.

According to a number of tips we've received (mostly from India), the anticipated upgrade for those who remain on legacy hardware is available should official support channels be unavailable. Users can simply bring in their phone and have them updated right there by Nokia, even before the "early 2013" date.

Just over a year ago, Nokia and Electronic Arts announced an agreement to publish over 20 EA games exclusively for Nokia Lumia Windows Phones. Shortly thereafter, they revealed the full list of planned titles. The list contained some compelling brands like Dead Space, Madden, and FIFA. It also included more casual and less exciting titles such as The Game of Life and Connect 4.

We didn’t know whether they would all be Xbox-branded titles or not, but as it turns out, each game released so far has indeed been Xbox Live-enabled. I’d have loved to review The Game of Life and Connect 4 together, but the latter unfortunately doesn’t work on Windows Phone 8 right now and I won’t have a WP7 Lumia phone. So let’s look at LIFE (as I’ll shorten it) on its own merits.

According to the latest rumor, Nokia has just cancelled its plan of showcasing new products at the upcoming CES in January 2013. Instead, the Finnish phone maker is now cooking up some surprises for Mobile World Congress 2013, about one month after the CES (Windows Phone Central will be at both events).

People have been expecting Nokia to bring up the next wave of Lumia devices, and probably more powerful Pureview goodies, for CES 2013. The month-long postpone could be a sign that Nokia indeed has something up its sleeves, and is needing a little bit more time to polish it. Let's just be patient.

Today Nokia have announced their third and most affordable Windows Phone 8 handset. This one is designed specifically to appeal to the youthful, fun side of the market.

The Nokia Lumia 620 uses a new 'dual-shot' colour technique to deliver a variety of striking colour and texture effects. Dual-shot adds a second layer of coloured, transparent or translucent polycarbonate on top of a base layer to produce secondary colour blends and depth effects. There will be a range of seven exchangeable shells so folks can customise the look even further.

Nokia released its DLNA app Play To for Lumia Windows Phones earlier this year, but it has been missing for those who have made the move to Windows Phone 8. According to Eero Penttinen, Lead Programme Manager of Nokia Windows Phone Management, the app is well on its way. The unfortunate matter is it requires DLNA components that still need to be delivered.

Nokia is set to launch its flagship Windows Phone, the Lumia 920 in China with the country's largest wireless carrier, according to sources familiar with company plans. Nokia plans to reach an agreement with China Mobile to release a Lumia 920 compatible with the country's homegrown TS-SCDMA technology, which the carrier makes use of. This partnership will see both companies refresh the relationship that saw China receiving the Lumia 800 earlier this year.

We previously reported that the Lumia 920 was headed to China Mobile back in September. Now, that launch looks imminent as we reported it launching for December 6th on the carrier.
