A recent YouGov survey shows 45 percent of Nokia mobile device owners would recommend the product to a friend and promote the hardware to others. The independent study illustrates an 18 percent climb compared to last year, as well as a 4 percent drop in those who would not recommend their Nokia mobile phone, down to 33 percent.

Nokia is a company with history, there's no denying that. The company has led the way in mobile communication for years, but lost the ball for a while with the rise of the smartphone. Moving across to Windows Phone, Nokia is rejuvenating the brand and developing new technologies to regain its lead in the market it helped develop.

We're rather confused as to what's going on but it seems as though Sonic CD has joined Super Monkey in becoming unavailable on the Windows Phone store. Both titles were published in the Nokia Collection of apps for Lumia owners to enjoy for free, which was seen as an awesome move by Nokia. It's therefore come as a slight surprise that both games can no longer be downloaded.

Although “all will be revealed” at Mobile World Congress in just a few short weeks, it doesn’t mean the speculation cannot begin. A new device, RM-860, has shown up in two places to validate its existence.

The first spot is on Elbert Perez’s Occasional Gamer site. Perez makes numerous high quality Windows Phone games and he happens to record which devices use his wares. That info is then shared publicly on his website.

We’ve all been holding our breaths the past few months waiting for older devices running Windows Phone 7.5 to get the modest update to 7.8. Great news for those of you with a Nokia Lumia handset like the 710 or 900 – starting today, the Windows Phone 7.8 update is rolling out to all of you.

It’s been a long time coming, but your Nokia Lumia 510, 610, 710, 800, and 900 have been a little bummed out about missing the double wide Live Tile action newer phones have been getting. Not anymore, you can now look forward to multiple tile sizes, lockscreens, and more theme colors.

Nokia has finally managed to turn things around. The company has reported a profit of €439 million ($585 million), with €8.04 billion ($10.7 billion) in revenue. These figures were possible through stronger Lumia sales, Nokia Siemens Network and company restructuring. We believe Stephen Elop is currently cruising around with a megaphone, ensuring everyone hears the news.

The number of Lumia Windows Phones sold also saw an increase to 4.4 million, up from just 2.9 million in the previous quarter. We'd consider this as Nokia's most successful quarter since the company partnered with Microsoft and began supporting Windows Phone. As well as profit and sales, Nokia also increased its net cash reserves from €3.56 billion ($4.7 billion) to €4.36 billion ($5.8 billion).

Nokia plans to unveil another Windows Phone, codenamed EOS this year, according to sources familiar with company plans. The Verge has learned that the device is set to include a similar sensor to which is found on the Nokia 808 PureView. The optics upgrade would further advance Nokia's imaging technology, as well as provide yet another high-end Lumia Windows Phone for consumers.

During our recent interview with Nokia’s Chris Weber we asked whether or not the company would start showing off some specific features of their Lumia 920 (and other phones) in targeted ads. It looks like the answer is yes as Nokia today posted a new video urging users to switch to Lumia as the 920 and 820 are shown off.

As expected the ad concentrates on just a few specific areas of the Windows Phone 8 Lumia line: excellent photography, wireless charging and augmented reality (City Lens).

The style of the ad nicely juxtaposes with Microsoft’s own Windows Phone 8 ads with their “Meet the new Windows Phone 8 Reinvented Around You” message (see below) and we have a feeling the two companies collaborated to maintain that consistency.

Nokia has kicked off 2013 with a new challenge where two selected winners will bag a pair of Purity HD headphones by Monster. Sounds tempting, right? All that's required is for owners of new Lumia Windows Phones to match the colour of their device with an object or surrounding and snap a photo. They emphasise the cooler, more out there, the better. A few examples were provided by the team to get the idea engine started (see above).

Podcatcher updated along with Nokia Transfer My Data

We recently reviewed Podcatcher and whilst the app is a relative newcomer to the Windows Phone Store it has already caught our eye. One of the reasons for that was the developer's rapid fire updates, quickly adding features and fixes to the app.

Transfer My Data is a Nokia exclusive app to allow quick and painless migration of your data from your old phone to your shiny new Lumia device. Read on to find out more.

In planning for the next round of Windows Phones, indications are strong that Nokia is working on an aluminum body for a high end Lumia model.

Codenamed Catwalk, the aluminum Lumia will be lighter and thinner than the current crop of polycarbonate bodied Lumias. The Catwalk would replace the Lumia 920 as Nokia's centerpiece Windows Phone.

No word on hardware specs or when we might see the Catwalk beyond "later this year".  Catwalk is sure to be a hot topic of discussion next week at the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show.  We'll be in attendance at CES and if we hear more on the new aluminum Lumia, we'll pass it on.

Source: The Verge; Thanks, Catwalk, for the tip!

The Windows Phone 7.8 update for Lumia smartphones is reportedly available through Nokia Care i.e. local store/support centers, scattered throughout the world including parts of Europe and India.

According to a number of tips we've received (mostly from India), the anticipated upgrade for those who remain on legacy hardware is available should official support channels be unavailable. Users can simply bring in their phone and have them updated right there by Nokia, even before the "early 2013" date.
