mommy's best games

Windows Phone 8 hasn’t exactly been kind to the mobile lineup of Xbox games. To say nothing of the disheartening scarcity of WP8-specific games, more than 20 Xbox WP7 games simply aren’t available on WP8 due to incompatibility. In my opinion, Microsoft has handled these incompatibility issues quite poorly.

Still, in my original article about the mass delisting of WP8-incompatible games, I did predict that some of those games would eventually be patched and become available for WP8. Over the weekend we saw a semi-incompatible game BulletAsylum (which hadn’t actually been partially delisted like other affected titles) get patched to work properly on WP8. And now the first game from the ‘delisted’ list has appeared on WP8 as well: The Oregon Trail HD from Gameloft.

This Shoot1UP skin can be yours

Remember that picture of an LG Quantum wearing a Shoot 1UP skin that we included in our interview with Shoot 1UP developer Mommy’s Best Games over the weekend? Of course you do, because you’re cool like that. And if you also happen to be inquisitive, you might’ve wondered how you could get a skin like that for your own phone.

As it turns out, Mommy’s Best Games is giving away three of the skins in question in a contest that runs throughout the week. The skin you win doesn’t need to be for a Quantum, either – it can be any Windows Phone (or even *blech* non-Windows Phones). Head past the break for more details!

We’re back with another installment of our in-depth Xbox Live Developer Interview series. This time we probe the mind of Nathan Fouts, President of Mommy’s Best Games. MBG’s first Windows Phone game, Shoot 1UP came out a few weeks ago and I gave it a rave review.

Read on to learn more about Shoot 1UP’s development process, MBG’s upcoming XBLA game Serious Sam: Double D XXL, Nathan’s experiences working on the Postal and Resistance series, and lots more.

Windows Phone Xbox Live Review: Shoot 1UP

Xbox Live isn’t exactly overflowing with shoot-em-ups.  After the pretty but generic and sadly unsupported by its developer OMG: Our Manic Game came along, it took over a year for the more serious Dodonpachi Maximum to arrive. Thankfully Shoot 1UP from indie developer Mommy’s Best Games launched less than a year after its predecessor, though only after experiencing several delays on the development side. But it’s here now and easily qualifies as the most fun shmup this reviewer has played in years.

We’ve been following Shoot1UP, the vertically-scrolling shoot-em-up from Mommy’s Best Games and Microsoft Studios, for quite a while now. We first previewed the game way back in October 2011, and most recently got some hands-on time with it at E3. Thankfully Shoot1UP’s release finally draws near, as it lands this very month. Details and official trailer after the break.

Xbox Live: Shoot1UP Exclusive Preview

We briefly touched on Shoot1UP back in August when it appeared in the Gamescom WP7 sizzle reel. Today it’s time to let the cat out of the bag and reveal lots of details about this upcoming Xbox Live title.

Shoot1UP comes from Mommy’s Best Games, who are best known for their recent Serious Sam: Double D Xbox Live Arcade game. Before graduating to Xbox Live titles, they developed several Xbox 360 indie games, including Shoot1UP. The game is a vertically-scrolling shoot-em-up that stands out for several reasons.

Head past the break for our full preview and exclusive reveal of the WP7 version screenshots.
