MyFitnessPal

MyFitnessPal is working on beta testing new updates to fix major stability issues with its app, but unfortunately has missed the mark on its first beta release. The first beta release, which was set to improve many stability issues, really didn't do a whole lot to fix things, while some even claimed it made things worse. Snowballing from there, MyFitnessPal wasn't very clear to beta testers what was changing or the status of fixes, even making it tough to leave feedback for the app.

MyFitnessPal (www.myfitnesspal.com) as a service is top notch.  If you’re into keeping track of what you eat and the calories you consume, then it’s indispensable, especially since it combines so nicely with our favorite activity tracker Fitbit. But as a Windows Phone app, it leaves a lot to be desired, as can be seen by the pitiful user ratings in the Store. Sure, it looks great, but problems with stability and the scanner keep it from being truly useful.

As some of our readers may know, a few of us around here are fitness junkies. Namely myself, Sam and Seth are all active Fitbit users, runners, Crossfitters or gym rats. Because of that, we really dig running apps like today’s Track Runner or Fitbit Tracker. MyFitnessPal fits into that because the free service ties into virtually everything.

What is MyFitnessPal? It’s a sophisticated calorie counter. But it’s also super smart and easy. Plus it can connect to Fitbit, so that when you run and burn calories, MyFitnessPal auto adjusts based on your activity level. Throw in the Aria scale with Wi-Fi, and it’s like living in the future.

MyFitnessPal has been on Windows Phone for a while and version 2.0 went live a few months ago when it got its Windows Phone 8 bump. Today, version 2.1 is available and it brings with it even more cool features. Heck, it’s such a big update that the company even blogged about it. So what’s new?

While everyone was celebrating yesterday about Mint.com jumping on Windows Phone I was still anxiously awaiting for MyFitnessPal to get bumped to Windows phone 8. For those of you who don’t know, MyFitnessPal is a free service for monitoring what you eat (calories, exercise, and planning). It also syncs nicely with FitBit which is why I primarily use it.

As Fitness Month fades away into the distant horizon, we've looked at apps throughout the month that are focused on helping us get into shape, eat right, get a good night's sleep and basically live a healthier life.

This week's roundup focuses on apps that tackle a wide range of fitness topics from diet to exercise to health related issues. These three apps seem to be more comprehensive than other fitness apps and while the roundup may seem to be a little on the thin side, these three apps cover a lot of territory.

As always, if you have a favorite health or fitness Windows Phone app that you'd like to recommend, sound off in the comments below.

Track your calories with MyFitnessPal

As fitness month continues around these parts, we want to revisit a Windows Phone app that will help you count calories. MyFitnessPal is a calorie counting app for your Windows Phone device that boasts the largest food database available with over 1.2 million food items.  MyFitnessPal tracks your calories not only from meals and snacks but also calories lost from exercises.

We reviewed MyFitnessPal about a year ago and found it to be an exceptional Windows Phone app to monitor your diet and fitness routine. The app has been updated since we last looked at it and it remains a nice option to consider.  Worthy of revisiting.

Windows Phone App Review: MyFitnessPal

MyFitnessPal is a neat app for your Windows Phone to helps you track your workouts and diet as you work towards an established weight goal. It's a rather simple tracking app that taps into a healthy amount of resources. MyFitnessPal boasts the largest food database with over 1.2 million items and based on using the app over the past few days, I believe it.

The interface is easy to pick up on and a bar code scanner just in case your meal isn't listed in the database, MyFitnessPal is an impressive fitness and health app for your Windows Phone.
