netherlands

Much like it did back at the end of May for the U.K., Microsoft is teasing the release of Cortana in a new country — this time it's the Netherlands. The Microsoft Netherlands twitter account sent out the not-so-subtle hint, with no indication of exactly when we'll see it launched in the Netherlands, but we're not going to look this gift horse in the mouth.

Better late than never. Flitsmeister, a very popular traffic analysis service in the Netherlands has just been released on Windows Phone 8. It has been available for Android, iOS, and Blackberry, but now Dutch Windows Phone users can join the fun.

There's nothing worse than running over your contract allowances when using your smartphone. It's easy to do should you include data-intensive services and numerous friends requiring social time. Luckily, mobile operators have been releasing apps that help customers keep track of exactly what they're using, whether it be data, calls or SMS.

Vodafone NL has launched such a solution for Windows Phone, offering a free tool to Windows Phone customers to help them remain on top of contract allowances, as well as general account management. Better yet, it's well designed and is yet another official solution from a mobile operator that's beginning to back Windows Phone.

We know what you wish. You wish that from day one the Nokia Lumia 1020 was available on every carrier in every country. But that’s not quite how things worked out for the device that was exclusive to AT&T in the United States. Slowly but surely, we’re seeing more regions and carriers announce their plans and dates to carry the 41 million pixel smartphone. Now the Netherlands is getting in on the action.

A joint investigation by Canadian and Dutch officials has determined that popular mobile messaging program WhatsApp violates privacy laws of both countries. The problem is that the application, which lets users text each other over the internet in order to circumvent carrier texting charges, requires users to grant it access to their entire address book and not just the contacts who use it.

We’re still not quite sure what the situation is for Nokia’s stock of the Lumia 920. Word is that they kept production limits tight due to a fear of having a warehouse filled with unsold devices just collecting dust. That’s a dangerous position to be in when your financials are as precarious as Nokia’s.

Being the case, it’s still interesting to read that in the Netherlands, where the Lumia 920 just went on sale today, at least one major reseller (Bol.com) is already reporting stock is so low that they can’t guarantee any orders past tomorrow. To make it worse, they don’t even know when the device will be back in stock.

It appears that the HTC 8X Windows Phone will be available in the Netherlands on November 1st. This is according to Mark Moons, HTC's representative to the Benelux (which is basically an economic union that includes Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxemburg).  If November 1st holds true, it will be hot on the heels of the October 29th Microsoft Event to unveil Windows Phone 8.

Cost for the HTC 8X was noted at being around €549 (about $712 U.S.). Moons added that the HTC 8S Windows Phone will hit store shelves shortly after the 8X. No pricing information was made available on the 8S.

Rabobank, one of the largest banks in the Netherlands, has released a mobile banking app for Windows Phone. Like its counterparts for Android, Blackberry and iOS, the Rabo Banking App lets users take care of their banking needs, be it checking their balance, viewing account history or making transfers, wherever they may be.

In order to use the app, you must already have a Rabobank account and have your Random Reader and debit card handy. You can click here for more information about the Rabo Banking App, or here to download the mobile banking app from the Windows Phone Marketplace.

Those of you looking to pick up the Nokia Lumia 610 in the Netherlands, despite having some less functions than it's older 710, 800 and 900 siblings, will want to pay attention. That phone looks to be launching fairly soon as the site PDAShop.nl now has the phone with full specifications listed on the site.

The 610 with its 800MHz CPU, 3.7" TFT (non-ClearBlack) screen with GorillaGlass and 5MP camera runs Windows Phone 7.5.1 aka "Tango" and should be price aggressively. In this case, we hope that means cheaper than the Allegro which is fetching for € 269 currently.

Representing an effort to win over the lower-end of the smartphone market for first time buyers, teenagers and the like, the Lumia 610 looks to a fairly solid phone even with its more limited-hardware. See our hands on with the Lumia 610 here.

It's a Lumia 800 white announcement day today it seems, and now Nokia Netherlands has decided to join in with a video introduction of the handset. This is a perfect addition to the Lumia family of Windows Phones from the Finnish manufacturer, we've got a number of black handsets so it's good to see some opposite options being made available (and we know Apple fans go crazy for white versions of the iProducts).

As mentioned in the announcement, the white Lumia 800 will be heading to the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Scandinavia, Finland, Poland and Switzerland first, with other countries to follow.

We've been hearing rumblings of a Nokia Lumia 910 recently--basically a Lumia 900 but with a 12.1MP camera instead of the 8MP on the AT&T version. That's not too shabby if true, especially for our European friends who are rumored to be getting the updated version by mid year.

Now we have the Lumia 910 showing up on a Typhone.NL a Dutch retail site for smartphones. The phone is clearly marked as the 910 and low and behold even has a matching 12MP camera to match those rumored specs. Could be coincidence, could be a retail site drumming up some hits or it could very well be the first solid evidence that this bad boy is coming sooner than later. Everything else is there too: 16GB of storage, front facing camera, HSDPA (21 Mb/s) and that 4.3" screen, of course.

In fact, dare we we say we're expecting Nokia to show of the Lumia 910 next month in Barcelona? They're not going to just re-hash a 900 release are they? We think not...

The Samsung Omnia W (i8350) has gotten it's price for consumers in the Netherlands, €329, slightly less expensive than its Italian counterpart.  The Omnia W, which just recently launched in India as well, is a nice mid-range phone at a mid-range price.  It sports a 1.4GHz CPU, along with a 5MP camera and 3.7" Super AMOLED screen.  It won't blow your socks off, like the HTC Titan, but it won't break the bank either.

LG has released some exciting information on Twitter to a fellow user who queried as to when Windows Phone users in the Netherlands can expect to see the Mango update. The tweet below states that LG is looking to see Mango rolled out in the country in the next few days.

"Beste, Mango voor Windows phone 7 verwachten we binnen enkele dagen, Groet"

If you'd rather get a new device for Mango, remember that the massive screen-featuring HTC Titan is set to be available in the Netherlands by early October.

Looks like HTC is pretty darn close to getting that Titan out the doors. We saw it earlier for Vodafone and T-Mobile and now it's showing up in the Netherlands for € 508 come October 7th. The device will be available on multiple carriers, including Telefort, Tele2 and Hi.  Users can also pre-order the phone now to make sure they get that monster in the mail by that date. Sounds good to us.
