We've all been there. The evening comes around and you're looking at what to have for dinner. Domino's Pizza is one option that's utilised regularly and their apps for Windows Phone is a superb way to order that personalised main course. The team behind the app has recently pushed through an update that adds notifications and fixes a few bugs affecting consumers residing in the UK.

Two updates have rolled out today for some popular apps on Windows Phone: Domino’s Pizza and MapQuest, making sure you know how to find your local pizza shop for that carryout order.

First up is Domino’s Pizza, which launched back in June for Windows Phone 8 in US markets and it has sadly become one of our most used apps (running on a treadmill while ordering your next meal is über convenient). Since then, the app hasn’t had any updates but today it gets a minor one with version 1.1 ready for delivery.

Although Domino’s Pizza has had an app for the UK (and Ireland) for some time now, Windows Phone users in the US have been left without a mobile option—until today.

Hurrah! Domino’s Pizza (www.dominos.com) has made a full-fledged, US-dedicated app for Windows Phone 8 that allows you to access your account, place your order (pickup/delivery) and even follow its status with Domino’s famed “tracker” service. Throw in some voice controls and a Live Tile and we’re all set for Saturday night!

Head past the break for the first images, our video tour and download link!

We get some criticism from people for liking Domino’s Pizza (because we live in New York) but let’s be clear: Domino’s is pretty delicious and serves a roll in our culinary selection on occasion. It’s like what Taco Bell is to Mexican food—it’s not the same or better, just different.

So with that preamble, we’re excited and miffed to see the official Domino’s app get updated for Windows Phone 8—with some killer features too. The bad news is it’s only for the UK and Ireland, which as an American I find…odd.

What’s new in version 1.1.1.0 just released to the Store today? Glad you asked.

Should you be looking for something to order in for dinner, you might want to check out a number of apps available for Windows Phone: Takeaway Lieferservice, Thuisbezorgd and Pizza. The apps individually target a specific region. Takeaway supports the UK, Lifeservice is for Austria, Thuisbezorgd is for the Netherlands, and finally Pizza for Belgium.

Good news Domino's Pizza lovers, the fine establishment has released a Windows Phone app (for the UK & Ireland) that conveniently allows users to order their favourite pizzas from the comfort of their handset. The Domino's iOS app is as aesthetically pleasing as they come, so our expectations are high with what can be achieved visually with the Metro UI. We have not been failed, as (can be seen above) the app is very good looking.

Should you be after drinks, sides, desserts, deals, or just the 13" beasts themselves, the Domino's Pizza app allows one to achieve this with style:

  • A Full Menu
  • Store Locator
  • All Meal Deals available
  • Ability to Customise Your Pizza with extra toppings or special requests
  • Payment via credit card, cash or on collection

The next version is already in the works that will introduce voucher usage, so we expect to see an update soon. You can download Domino's Pizza from the Marketplace for free, enjoy!

Thanks Carl for the tip!

There's a Pizza Hut App on the loose

Ordering pizza online has been around for a while but now you can order your favorite Pizza Hut pizza from your Windows Phone. The official (not sure if there was an unofficial) Pizza Hut app has been unleashed on to the Windows Phone Marketplace.

The Pizza Hut app features includes:

  • Access to Pizza Hut's full menu including specialty pizzas, Tuscani pasta, and WingStreet Wings (hungry now?)
  • Guest Checkout to allow you to order without creating an account
  • Credit Card options for check out

The app is laid out really nice. The Main Pages includes your menu options (signing in, starting an order, create account, etc.), a map page showing the Pizza Hut locations close to your current location, and Pizza Hut tweets. Ordering is simple as well. Find your location and you'll be sent to a Menu Hub that covers regular items as well as specials. From there, you build your order, pay and either wait for the delivery dude or go pick up your order.

Orders can only be placed during the operating hours of your local store and unfortunately, the ordering function is U.S. only (don't blame the messenger). Hopefully it will expand because this looks like a great, convenient way to order on the go.

The Pizza Hut app is free and you can download it here at the Windows Phone Marketplace.

Thanks goes out to 5tephen for the tip!
