Radiant

One benefit of Windows Phone 8 sharing the same NT kernel as its big brother Windows 8 is the ease at which apps and games can be made for the other. I remember hearing that about 70-80% of the code can be shared with the other (I’m sure one of you will correct me on this). So as one platform grows, the other will follow suit.

Here’s another fun game that started out on Windows 8 and has now made the jump to Windows Phone 8 – Robotek.

WPCentral mockup: HTC Radiant

Our go-to-guy for device renders, Brian, is back with another high quality mockup of the HTC Radiant (click to zoom) The Radiant is thought to be basically the HTC Titan but with LTE on board, slightly thicker for the larger battery and some minor cosmetic changes.

Pocketnow leaked the blurry image the other day and now Brian has gone ahead and made it much nicer to look at with more detail. By all accounts, it looks like a Titan to our eyes, but we're sure once we hold one the differences will become more obvious.

Follow Brian here on Twitter and see his work with the LG Fantasy and Nokia 900.

File this under both excited and under-whelming.

We heard about HTC launching the Radiant a few days ago with the idea that it was essentially the HTC Titan but with a 4G LTE radio on board and destined for everyone's favorite, AT&T. Pocketnow have posted what is purportedly the first picture of what this device will look like.

As it turns out, it looks just like your Titan but allegedly thicker for a larger battery. larger front-facing camera lens (which is sorely needed) and the right side buttons are skewed towards the bottom more. Not exactly huge changes but those little types of refinements can go a long ways in making the Titan even better (and HTC's button placements do lack behind Samsung's, in our opinion). Finally, the Radiant is suppose to go to Australia's Telstra too--so that's some positive new for those outside the US.

The Radiant is rumored to be shown off at CES next week and we have a few events scheduled with HTC, so we're sure to get the full skinny on this one folks. The question for you though is this: Is a Titan with LTE on board going to make you trade up?

TheVerge is reporting that unnamed sources in the know have told them HTC and Samsung both have new 4G LTE WP7 devices on the way.  Samsung is currently calling their phone the Mandel, and rumor has it that it will be packing a larger screen than the Focus S, which sits at 4.3 inches.  HTC's phone is called the Radiant, and poked its head up earlier this year, sporting a post-Mango version of Windows Phone.  Despite early speculation that the Radiant was running Tango, TheVerge's sources claim that neither of these new phones will have it.

No word yet on carriers, but HTC has been rumored to be working with AT&T, while Verizon has also been toying with the idea of a 4G Windows phone.  Both phones are slated for release in early 2012, though perhaps not in time for CES, like Nokia's AT&T 4G handset hopefully will.

Update: According to WinSupersite's "exclusive," both the Radiant and the Mandel (referred to as Mendel) will be on AT&T, along with the Nokia Ace.  While the release date for the HTC and Samsung handsets is listed as "before the middle of 2012," they say the Nokia Ace will be available come March 18.  It is said that all of this will be revealed at CES.

Windows Phone Game Review: Radiant

If you like retro games you're going to get a kick out of the Windows Phone game Radiant. Radiant has enjoyed success on other platforms and based on playing the game for a few days, it should have similar success on the Windows Phone platform.

Radiant comes across as a combination between Space Invaders, Galaga, and Asteroids. Add the pixilated graphics and you get an 1980's arcade feel with Radiant (and that's not a bad thing).
