reminders

Humans can be pretty forgetful creatures. Which is why eons ago some brilliant man invented the to-do list. This allowed man to prioritize and execute important tasks. Thankfully our smartphones have now given rise to ‘smartlists’. And that’s exactly what You-Doo for Windows Phone is. It’s a very smart to-do list, task scheduler and reminder app that uses your location to help you get stuff done. Let’s check it out.

Location Reminder is a Windows Phone 8 app that is a convenient way to tag locations and set location based reminders about them.

For example, you order a birthday cake at the local bakery you drive by daily. With Location Reminder you can save the location of the bakery and set a reminder to pick the cake up. As you drive near the bakery, a toast notification will pop up reminding you to stop and pick up the cake.

Location Reminder can be a handy app to help remind you to pick up that loaf of bread as you pass the grocery store or remember to take your clothes to the dry cleaner as you leave the house.

Leaving no stone unturned, AT&T is sending out text messages to wireless customers reminding them of the Lumia 900 update. While at first you may think it is another update, the message is for the connectivity fix that launched back on April 13, 2012.

The message reads,

A software update may be available for your Nokia Lumia 900.  To see if your phone has an update available, visit www.nokiausa.com/lumia900update for instructions.  Nokia is providing a $100 AT&T bill credit for any inconvenience.  Credit may take up to 60 days to appear on bill.

The message also sheds some light on the $100 credit Nokia is applying to Lumia 900 owners who purchased their Windows Phone on or before April 21, 2012.  If you don't see it on this billing cycle, it should show up on the next.

Thanks to everyone who tipped us on this!

Save My Spot! gets updated, drops ads

Save My Spot! is a decent app for your Windows Phone (here's our review) to help you remember and get back to various spots in your life. Be it a favorite restaurant or where you saw that special something something for your wife, Save My Spot! will record the GPS coordinates for the spot as well as tons of descriptive elements to get you back there.

Save My Spot! was recently updated to version 1.1 to add functionality to manage categories in the settings and to remove the banner ads. The latter is a welcome fix in that Save My Spot! may have been the only paid app that had ad banners. Kudos for the developer to stepping up and taking corrective action on this oversight.

The developer tells us that there is more in store for Save My Spot! with future updates (maybe a trial version?). Save My Spot! is running $.99, is now ad-free and you can find it here at the Windows Phone Marketplace.

Redminder - Mango App Spotlight

Redminder is a simply and free app for your Windows Phone to help remind you when your Redbox or Blockbuster rental is due. Interface is simple. The main page lists all your reminders and to set a reminder, just tap the "Add Alarm" switch.

The due date is set automatically for 24 hours (can be modified) and the name of the rental can be customized. Once you save the reminder, a Live Tile is created for your start screen that will display the title of the rental and expand to show your return date/time.

You can turn this feature off in the settings if you don't need the Live Tile. Redminder is a Mango App and supports fast resume and multiple live tile support. So, if you have five rentals you can have five Live Tile reminders.

Redminder comes in two varieties. A free, ad supported version and an ad-free, $.99 version. You can find the free version of Redminder here and the paid version here at the Windows Phone Marketplace.
