Rogers just activated their fresh 700 MHz spectrum in a few regions across Canada. Toronto, Calgary, and Vancouver are the lucky cities today, though we can expect a nationwide rollout eventually. 700 MHz has been widely described as “beachfront” spectrum that’s particularly good at penetration, so you can keep a signal in elevators and parking garages, for example. It also provides added stability to everyday LTE connections.

Rogers has announced some new roaming add-ons for Canadian travelers. Not too long ago, Rogers unveiled a $7.99 daily roaming plan for the U.S. (which already faces stiff competition against WIND’s $15 unlimited plan), and this new one is built for roaming worldwide. But don’t get too excited; it’s $9.99 for a day for up to 20 MB (depending on where you're going), with no voice or text. That’s better than the $10 - $15 they’d normally charge per megabyte without a package. This add-on will be applied automatically after you start using data abroad, though you’ll get SMS alerts about usage.

Attention Canada: Nokia Lumia 920 owners on Rogers can expect to see the Lumia Black firmware update made available today. The Lumia Black update incorporates Windows Phone 8 Update 3 started rolling out across the globe two months ago, so Canada's largest carrier has been a bit slow on the uptake. But according to an update roadmap post in the Rogers Community Forums, 920 owners on Rogers are scheduled to start seeing Lumia Black today (three days after Samsung Ativ S users on Rogers saw GDR3)

Of all the questions we get regarding the 41 MP Lumia 1020 for those in the States, the ‘when can I get it on my carrier?’ one ranks as the most frequent. While the rest of the world has been getting the massive camera phone on various networks internally, in the US it is only AT&T who can fly the flag for the 1020.

Unfortunately, we have heard zero hints or rumors that this will change in the near future, making this more akin to the Lumia 920 than the Lumia 925 in the US.

Not all is lost though. Rogers launched the Lumia 1020 four days ago up in Canada, finally bringing that device up north (Telus is also selling it). Rogers often gets so-called pentaband Lumias, meaning they support more frequencies than the traditional four-band ones found on other carriers. From our forums, we can now confirm that the Rogers Lumia 1020 is pentaband enabled, meaning it supports the following frequencies:

Nokia will be launching the Lumia 1020 in Canada soon, and the smartphone will be carried by Rogers and TELUS. MobileSyrup have got their hands on internal TELUS documentation, which reveals October 3rd as the date to pencil in the calendar. As well as the release date, a 2-year contract price of $199.99 and outright price of $725 were also included. Oh, and if you're one about colours, both yellow and black variants will be available.

Those folks who are up in Canada have good reason to rejoice as Rogers has finally put the Nokia Lumia 1020 up for pre-order. Customers can now head to the Rogers website and start the process through their online reservation system (good for new lines or upgrades).

What’s more, if you pre-order by October 3rd you can nab yourself the awesome camera grip. The PD-95G from Nokia adds an extra 1000 mAh of battery power, better shutter button and a tripod mount making it the perfect accessory for dedicated-shooting days.

Yesterday was a whirlwind day of news for Windows Phone and as such, a few items fell between the cracks. Sorry! But that’s what Thursday’s are for, evidently. So today we want to remind our friends up north in Canada who have an HTC 8X or HTC 8S that you should check for an OS and firmware update on your phone.

We received numerous tips from users noting that Bell Mobility and Rogers have both begun pushing out Windows Phone 8 1327 aka GDR2 OS updates along with the corresponding firmware to their 8X and 8S devices.

We reported earlier that Canadians will be able to enjoy the Lumia 1020 from Nokia this coming October. This information still stands, but we also stated the Windows Phone will be exclusive to Rogers. This part is where it's not entirely accurate. TELUS will also be stocking the Lumia 1020 as well as the new, gigantic Lumia 625. Good news if you're not with the mobile operator.

The Lumia 1020 is on its way to Canada. Currently sporting the Lumia 920 as the flagship Windows Phone 8 device from Nokia, Rogers believes that also stocking the Lumia 1020 will provide more choice for consumers. The real question is when? MobileSyrup has learnt that the mobile operator will be launching the Lumia 1020 this coming October.

We’re getting reports from users that Nokia and Rogers have thrown the switch on the anticipated Amber and GDR2 OS update for the Lumia 920. Much like other carriers, Rogers was in the process of certifying the release and now it has gone live. Indeed, checking Nokia’s update page we can see Rogers is now listed as “Available”.

Oh, Canada! If you've been looking for a way to hop onto the Windows Phone bandwagon for cheap, then look no further than your local Rogers, Koodo, or Telus store. Nokia has announced that these three Canadian carriers have just picked up the Nokia Lumia 520.

The ever-affordable Lumia 520 is available starting today on Rogers for free with a three year contract or $199.99 outright. If Koodo is more your flavor, the 520 official launches there on May 9th for $150 without a contract or free on contract (though in reality you can already order one). And if your carrier of choice is Telus, you'll be able to pick up the 520 for $149 with a pre-paid plan.

The Lumia 920 has been added to the catalogue of Windows Phones available at Canadian mobile operator Rogers. The unique colour is one of the rare variants, along with the grey and red versions. Priced at the same points as other Lumia 920s listed on the company's website, the $49.99 on a 3-year contract isn't a bad deal (though it is for anyone who's used to 1-year and 2-year plans).

Now we’ve learned of three more places launching the super colorful and affordable Windows Phone 8 device: Spain, Turkey and it’s even coming to Canada.
