Smart Shoot

Sami Niemi, one of the co-founders of Scalado, a Swedish-based imaging firm which has been renowned for its innovative mobile imaging experiences has spoken to Nokia Conversations about what the team has achieved since being gobbled up by Nokia last year.

Niemi became Nokia's director of Capture & Relieve software product management after the move and within months Nokia Smart Shoot was released, alongside an alpha version of PhotoBeamer was being demonstrated to operators. It's quite the adventure.

Smart Shoot is a Windows Phone 8 photography app, exclusive to the Nokia Lumia phones such as the Lumia 920.  Smart Shoot is a stand alone app much like the smart group shot feature in Nokia's Camera Extras for Windows Phone 7.5 and is designed to help you take better people or group pictures by correcting those distracting facial expressions.

Ever take a picture of your friends and someone has their eyes closed or they are looking away? If you catch it, you can always re-shoot the picture but then everyone gets impatient and they threaten to revolt. If you miss it, then you're stuck with a bad photo. Smart Shoot is designed to avoid these type situations.

Nokia updates Smart Shoot Lens app and refines its UI

For those with Windows Phone 8 Lumias, you may be familiar with Nokia’s Smart Shoot app/Lens for improving your photo skills.

The app works by rapidly shooting a few photos and then letting you select which one looks best. In addition, you can “erase” unwanted objects or moving people in the background and even choose the best face for your subject...
