We have mentioned the Windows Phone app NCAA March Madness Live before. It is the official Windows Phone app for the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship Tournament that delivers stats, news, scores and live streaming of all the tournament games to your Windows Phone.

This past week we were finally able to put the Windows Phone app to the test. Tournament games began last Thursday and we have been very pleased so far with the March Madness Live’s performance.

Windows Phone Central App Roundup: Super Bowl XLVIII Apps

Just in case you were not aware, Super Bowl XLVIII kicks off tomorrow from the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.  For those not fortunate enough to experience the outdoor experience, we thought a quick roundup of Windows Phone apps was in order for those roughing it from the comfort of home.

We’ve got apps that will help conquer the munchies, keep up with the game’s stats, check in on player tweets, replay all those fantastic commercials and give your bartending skills a fighting chance.  Plus, for good measure, we will toss out the available Windows 8 versions for some of these apps just in case you prefer the larger screen of your Windows tablet.

We have seen a wide range of games hit the Windows Phone Store shelves and Cliff Diving may be the first and only diving game available for Windows Phone 8.  It may not be your typical Windows Phone sports game but the game has potential.

Cliff Diving 3D has two levels of difficulty and a healthy range of dives to perform.  Graphics aren’t terrible but could use a little polishing and game play is fairly easy but not without challenge.  You will find your diver performing plenty gut-busters or belly flops until you get the game's timing down just right.

If you are looking for a unique game for Windows Phone 8 or just a change of pace from the puzzle games, Cliff Diving is worth trying.

If you are yearning for a tennis game for Windows Phone 8, you need to check out Cross Court Tennis 2.  It is a relatively new sports game for Windows Phone and once you get used to the controls, it is an entertaining game to pass the time with.

Graphics are top notch, game play challenging but the screen does feel a little cramped.  Nonetheless, overall, Cross Court Tennis 2 is a welcomed addition to the Windows Phone gaming library.

Windows Phone Central Gaming Roundup: Billiards

Last week’s Windows Phone Central roundup dealt with bowling games for our Windows Phones.  At the suggestion of one of our readers (thanks newVariable), this week we turn our focus on another indoor sporting activity – billiards.

Billiards or pool games can be a fun way to pass the time with.  The challenge of the game will keep things interested and the genre is well suited for multi-player action.  We pulled four billiard games from the Windows Phone Store for this week’s roundup based on their Store ratings.  All three had merit and have their own level of appeal.

If we have missed your favorite Pool game, feel free to sound off in the comments below.

Windows Phone Central Game Roundup: Bowling Games

Sports games for our Windows Phones can have great entertainment value.  These games can help you pass short bits of time or handle the longer gaming sessions when you plenty of time to kill.  Bowling games fit that bill and are are the subject of this week’s Windows Phone Central Roundup

Bowling may not appeal to everyone but they are simple games to pick up but challenging to master.  You often have customizations to make the game reflect more of your personal tastes and just when you think you have game play down pat, you roll a gutter ball.

These Windows Phone games may not turn you into the Big Lebowski but they are entertaining, all are free and well worth the try.  We will focus on four of the more popular bowling titles in the Windows Phone Store and if we've missed your favorite bowling game, let us know in the comments.

The sport now transcends the weekend with games during the week as well as on the weekends.  For the times we can't be anchored to the couch, taking in all the games, our Windows Phones are a great way to stay in touch with the sport.  This week's Windows Phone Central Roundup focuses on those gridiron apps.  Apps that focus on delivering all the news, scores, stats and standings from the football field.  We also throw in a few football games for good measure just in case you need something to help you pass the time with during those extended t.v. time-outs.

Believe it or not, the NBA has had a Windows Phone app since 2011. They first launched Game Time back in time for the 2011 playoffs allowing players to catch the latest news from the NBA. A year later, the app was updated with the ability to watch live video of the playoffs if you were an NBA League Pass holder. Today, we’re looking at a new update for NBA fans that will let you catch the entire season. Details below.

On the heels of Microsoft updating Bing Weather for Windows Phone 8, Bing Sports is getting into the action with an update as well.

Bing Sports moved to version 2.0.2.177 and while there's not an official change log posted, it appears the update adds a few new sports categories. You've got your customary professional sports listed (NFL, NBA, NFL, etc) along with collegiate sports, the PGA, and MLS but now NASCAR is showing up on the list.

Here’s an app that all sports fans can get behind. One that isn’t focused on one region, but the planet as a whole. It’s called SofaScore LiveScore and it’s really awesome. It’s been out for Windows Phone since mid-summer, but we recently caught wind of it and the app itself received an update. What better time to talk about it. Let’s check it out.

At Bat 13 is a feature rich Windows Phone 8 app that will keep you up to date on all the action on the diamond. The app does a respectable job of delivering all the scores, stats, highlights, videos and news from Major League Baseball. You can even sign into your MLB.com account to access your MLB.TV Premium subscription, access the MLB.com Store and listen to streaming game broadcasts.

At Bat 13 was updated yesterday, taking the app to version 1.1.0.15 and get it ready for the playoffs. The update includes a new section dedicated for the 2013 playoffs with filters for all post-season series and teams.

It has been some time since a big titled, official app landed for Windows Phone 8, so it’s great to see CBS Sports launch theirs today. The app, resting at version 1.0 (although it oddly says 2.0 on the About screen) and freshly published to the Store, comes in at a modest 3 MB and will surely keep you up to date in the sporting world.

The app comes with numerous features and is generally what we would expect from such a high caliber media company.

Great news for those who watch America’s favorite pastime, aka Major League Baseball (MLB), as their official app for the 2013 season is now available for free download. The app is of course limited to Windows Phone 8, as far as we can tell, but that should not be a surprise considering how much easier it is to develop for.

The app itself has a nice redesign and is chock full of features, allowing even the most devoted baseball fan to be content.
