The folks over at Bloomberg managed to get access to Microsoft's secret Surface lab, which is the paving ground for new Surface tablet designs. The video features Panos Panay, VP of Surface division, who mentions that iterative design wasn't in Microsoft's DNA, and that his team has had to work hard to get the Surface pro 3 to where it is in terms of the hardware design.

Ever since the Surface Pro 3 announcement, the future of the Surface Pro 2 was in question. Would Microsoft continue to sell both or focus on their new redesigned Surface Pro 3, and what about Surface 2? The story is coming into focus a bit as it looks like Microsoft is putting the Surface Pro 2 out to pasture.

Windows Phone Central has learned through various Microsoft Stores that all or most stock of the Surface Pro 2 and Surface Pro 2 accessories are being sent back to Microsoft. A few stores are keeping units on hand for customer issues, should any arise, but many stores now have zero stock with no plans to carry it any longer. It is not clear if other retailers are following suit or if Microsoft is mandating this only for their own stores.

Microsoft has inadvertently confirmed the existence of the Surface Mini in a user manual for the Surface Pro 3, which was recently published on the company's website. The Surface Mini is an interesting device that failed to show up at the Surface Pro 3 event after Microsoft emphasized on the event being "small". Unfortunately, the company failed to shed light on whether or not such a device exists and if it will be available for purchase at some point in the future.

With the Surface Pro 3 shipping by the end of the week, it looks like Microsoft engineers are readying some fixes that will improve the experience of using the tablet . Asking for user feedback, a digital artist suggests that the home button was too easily activated when in use and that there is a little bit of pen lag. Microsoft listened and it looks like fixes are incoming for both issues.

Microsoft has signed a deal with UK broadcaster Channel 5 to have its Surface family of Windows tablets advertised on the popular TV show Big Brother. While the reality show may not be the ideal program for Microsoft to show off its new gadgets, Big Brother will be taking on a technological theme for this year, making Surface tablets fit in perfectly. The products will be featured through the show with the product placement agreement signed.

Microsoft has published a new video to show how its Surface Pro tablets (the latest being the Surface Pro 3) are utilized by senseFLY, an autonomous drone and image processing software development company. The team not only produces drones for the general public to purchase and use themselves, but they also provide flight planning, surveying and mapping services.

This particular video illustrates how the Surface Pro works with said drones to create mapping and models for humanitarian and conservation efforts.

The UK is a hotspot for Microsoft products and when it comes to tablets, it appears to only be getting hotter. According to data from Canalys, shipments of tablets have grown 20.4 percent, year on year, to 2.15 million units during the opening quarter of 2014 and while Apple and Samsung still lead the pack with 34.4 percent going to Apple for a total of 742,000 tablets sent into channel and 653,000 Galaxy tabs offered up by Samsung, Microsoft has now made its way into fourth spot with their Surface line.

Microsoft had a special gift for participants in this year's Scripps National Spelling Bee, a brand new Surface tablet along with an Office 365 subscription. All 281 spellers received the package, along with a Skype gift card for calling and texting mobile phones. David Pogue, formerly of the New York Times and now of Yahoo! Tech, is a very well-known tech pundit. While he can be divisive for some, you can’t argue that what he says gets heard by the masses. Forget niche tech sites, he’s one of those people that the average user often pays attention to, ergo what he says matters – for better or for worse.

Pogue just shared his thoughts on the Surface Pro 3 and he has nothing but praise for the latest creation, calling it a “marvel of engineering," “There’s nothing like it,” and “We, the buying public, are not giving it a fair shake.”

While many of us expected that we would be seeing a Surface Mini at yesterday's "small" event from Microsoft, we didn't get that — but that's not to say that there isn't a Surface Mini in Microsoft's research and development labs somewhere. In fact, there was very much one, but Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and former Nokia CEO and now Microsoft EVP of Devices & Services Stephen Elop made the decision to push back a possible release of the smaller Surface tablet. Their reasoning? It wasn't unique enough.

While Microsoft may be dominating the Windows news today with the announcement of the Surface Pro 3 hardware, partner Adobe is also targeting creative professionals of the slate with an updated Photoshop experience that brings a better touch experience to the slate. Given the capabilities of the Surface Pro 3 such as an Intel Core i7 processor, an accurate pen for drawing and writing, and a capacious 12-inch display, the Surface Pro 3 may serve as a great Photoshop tool for users who need to draw and manipulate photos and images.
