Surface 2

Microsoft's Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 are great machines for getting things done. They're equally as good at entertainment. Movies, television shows and games look great on the 1080p resolution spread across the 10.6-inch display found on both machines. Here's a project on Kickstarter that's going to increase your listening experience when watching video or playing games. Want some Ears for your Surface?

Earlier this week, Microsoft finally released the Surface 2 with LTE on board here in the US. Available at Best Buy and Microsoft Stores (both online and in-stores), the $679 device brings 4G LTE connectivity to you wherever, whenever.

I managed to pick one up and have been playing around with it for the last 72 hours. Seeing as a lot of people are curious about this device, including features or limitations, I figured I’d do a quick-n-dirty breakdown of the major aspects. Hopefully it will quench your thirst in case you are considering this device.

Microsoft's Surface 2 with LTE has just gone on sale, as previously reported. The asking price is $679 and is locked to AT&T's 4G network, enabling owners to utilize the internet while out and about – there's nothing worse than enjoying the sun on a Wi-Fi-only tablet with no way to connect online.

You can pick one up from the Microsoft Store right now.

Earlier this afternoon, we reported that Microsoft Stores were getting stock of the new Surface 2 with LTE, destined for AT&T. At the time, we were unable to post photos due to a confidentiality request. Since that time we have ascertained more information, which we can share with you now.

The 64 GB version of the LTE based Surface 2 will have an in-store price of $679. Compared to $549 for the 64 GB non-LTE Surface 2, consumers are looking at $130 price hike for having permanent internet connectivity. We do not yet know if AT&T will be offering any tie ins or contract deals to lower that amount, though it’s certainly feasible if you toss in a 2-year contract.

We have been hearing about Microsoft’s Surface Power Cover since back in September of 2013. The new Surface accessory was expected to launch near or alongside the second generation of Surface tablets, but apparent delays kept it from being on schedule. Luckily, and thanks to a collection of patience from Surface users, the Surface Power Cover is now available for sale from the Microsoft store.

Build 2014 is right around the corner, and we’re expecting a few big announcements from Microsoft during that three day event. While Windows Phone 8.1 is anticipated to be unveiled, we have also been hearing about a Surface 2 with LTE. Announced last year during a Reddit AMA, a recent FCC filing suggests that the device is close to being released.

Windows Phone Central has now learned that Surface 2’s with LTE for AT&T have now started shipping to select Microsoft Stores to build up inventory.

Yesterday, I finally picked up my matte white/silver Lumia Icon from Verizon. Nokia wanted back the review device, so I had to decide if I wanted the Icon on my Verizon account. Of course I did, it’s a great phone.

In playing with the white/silver version, which in my opinion looks much better than the all black one, I can’t help but notice how much it borrows from the Surface 2 design language. Let me be clear here: I’m not saying this is the oft rumored ‘Surface Phone’ from Microsoft. Or that Nokia worked with Microsoft in any way on this device. That’s not true at all.

Microsoft launched the Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 this past October, but it was in September that they announced the two new tablets and their respective accessories. It was shortly after the official announcement that the Surface team did an AMA on Reddit and divulged some interesting information. There would be a Surface 2 with LTE and GPS launching early in 2014. That’s a very vague timeframe, but it looks to be coming fairly soon. A Surface 2 with LTE was just spotted in the FCC.

As you may know, Microsoft is throwing a 12 Days of Deals sale at their physical Stores, starting this Monday. That first deal is for the Dell Venue 8 Pro, which gets a massive discount to just $199 (or $99 if you’re on of the first 20 customers).

Well, Microsoft has just posted a new ad to their Microsoft Store YouTube page, and it’s causing quite a stir tonight. However, we’re treading cautiously here, and we’ll explain the nuances of the deal and why it's not what you think it is...

Whether or not you like it, some` of the most effective ads are when you directly target your opponents. The past half year has seen Microsoft aiming its advertisements directly at both Apple and Google. Earlier today we saw an ad from the Scroogled campaign slam the Chromebook. Now we’re looking at another Surface vs. iPad ad from Microsoft that demonstrates the strengths of the product.

If you recently picked up one of Microsoft’s latest devices, the Surface 2 or Surface Pro 2, you might be experiencing a slight issue with the screen dimming its brightness level when working on CPU intensive activities.

There used to be the days of woe when new buyers brought home their newly purchased Surface RT device, only to discover that they would never be able to hook it up to a wired network. Nokia announced the Lumia 2520 Windows RT 8.1 tablet at its conference in Abu Dhabi earlier this month. Microsoft had already unveiled the Surface 2, but which tablet is more appealing?
