Telus

We’re less than a week away from seeing Windows Phone 8.1 publically unveiled. All Windows Phone 8 handsets are able to upgrade to the latest and greatest version of Windows Phone when it becomes available. However, there are customers out there still waiting to get Update 3 and Lumia Black. Our friends using the Nokia Lumia 620 on Telus can now check that off their list. The update is rolling out for them.

The Lumia 625 is an interesting and unique Windows Phone from Nokia. Sporting a massive 4.7-inch display, the largest found on any Lumia smartphone (until the Lumia 1520 comes along), the handset is for those who enjoy looking at huge screens and boasting sizeable hardware. According to MobileSyrup, the Lumia 625 will launch on TELUS this coming Thursday (October 3rd) and will be priced at just $300.

Nokia will be launching the Lumia 1020 in Canada soon, and the smartphone will be carried by Rogers and TELUS. MobileSyrup have got their hands on internal TELUS documentation, which reveals October 3rd as the date to pencil in the calendar. As well as the release date, a 2-year contract price of $199.99 and outright price of $725 were also included. Oh, and if you're one about colours, both yellow and black variants will be available.

If you’re up in Canada and are rocking the super cool Lumia 520, get ready as Nokia and their carrier partners are in final checks for releasing the Amber/GDR2 update.

Looking at Nokia’s support page, we can see updates for the Lumia 520 on Chatr Wireless, Koodo, PC Mobile, Rogers and Telus have all switched from ‘Waiting for approval’ to ‘Coming soon’. That means last minute preparations and the updates should flow within the next 24 to 48 hours.

Good news for those with the super adorable Nokia Lumia 620 on O2 in the UK as we’re getting reports that the Lumia Amber update with the GDR2 OS is now rolling out. Likewise, two nights ago we teased that the Telus update was coming and it too is now live (Koodo is still pending approval).

Featuring the Glance screen, SMS and call filtering, camera fixes, flip to silence and more, the Amber update along with Microsoft GDR2 OS refresh should make the already fun Lumia 620 even better.

We've previously looked at the Nokia Lumia 1020 heading to Canada, and how the Windows Phone will not be exclusive to Rogers. TELUS has now teased the Lumia 1020 on the mobile operator's website, highlighting the camera, as well as Windows Phone 8. When will the new Nokia Windows Phone be arriving? No date has been provided, but we can't imagine it being long now.

We reported earlier that Canadians will be able to enjoy the Lumia 1020 from Nokia this coming October. This information still stands, but we also stated the Windows Phone will be exclusive to Rogers. This part is where it's not entirely accurate. TELUS will also be stocking the Lumia 1020 as well as the new, gigantic Lumia 625. Good news if you're not with the mobile operator.

While Nokia fans get a lot of attention today, those on Bell and Telus up north are reportedly getting Windows Phone 8 GDR2 as well, starting now. We reported a few days ago that Bell would start pushing out the update today and sure enough, it is live. Likewise, those on Telus and Rogers who have an ATIV S can also check for an update too, delivering a happy surprise for those customers.

The update will bump both the OS 8.0.10327.77 and your firmware to 2212.13.6.1, though users are reporting mixed results in terms of any new features.

Oh, Canada! If you've been looking for a way to hop onto the Windows Phone bandwagon for cheap, then look no further than your local Rogers, Koodo, or Telus store. Nokia has announced that these three Canadian carriers have just picked up the Nokia Lumia 520.

The ever-affordable Lumia 520 is available starting today on Rogers for free with a three year contract or $199.99 outright. If Koodo is more your flavor, the 520 official launches there on May 9th for $150 without a contract or free on contract (though in reality you can already order one). And if your carrier of choice is Telus, you'll be able to pick up the 520 for $149 with a pre-paid plan.

Good news for those looking to pick up the Nokia Lumia 620 (we swear, our review is coming up soon) as the phone is evidently not only heading to Rogers but also TELUS and Koodo Mobile.

The evidence for the 3.8” 1GHz dual-core CPU device reportedly lies on Nokia’s Navifirm servers where firmware for the device is labeled with the carrier’s names on board (we were unable to verify). Last we checked, we’ve never seen a firmware with carrier branding not come to market, so this is a pretty good sign.

MobileSyrup have received a tip detailing TELUS plans to launch and push the Lumia 610 Windows Phone. The unnamed source sent in a photo of a prototype Lumia 610, which is already launching across Europe, and states that it's scheduled to launch on the Canadian carrier sometime in the summer. TELUS is already sporting the Lumia 800, a Windows Phone that has pleased VP of Mobility Solutions at TELUS, Brent Johnston.

MobileSyrup speculate a price tag of between $200 – $250 and also add NFC into the specification list for the upcoming device, something we're aware that's exclusive to Orange who plan to launch an NFC supported Lumia 610 sometime in Q3. Note that the Lumia 610 only packs 256MB RAM, which brings with it limitations.

We've got some feel good news for the Monday morning with a Walmart employee revealing that the Lumia 800 on TELUS is selling well. The employee explained that the store only stocked Android handsets with the iPhone on the side for the past number of months. It would certainly be refreshing to see the award winning polycarbonate design and unique Windows Phone operating system arrive in stock.

As one can see from the photo, the Lumia 800 is available with TELUS for just $23.83 on a three-year contract, which is cheaper than going to the carrier directly. It's a good sign to see an employee of a retail chain to openly state that indicators point to Windows Phones selling well, and even the salesstaff who are selling the handsets are impressed.

Thanks Aaron for the tip and photo!
