Twitter has released an update for its official app on Windows 8, bumping the app up to a version that now caters for those who wield more than a single account. That's right, folks - you can now have multiple accounts loaded on Twitter, conversing with followers through multiple identities. As well as the new multiple account support, the team has also included some minor speed improvements.

Twitter is one of our favorite social networks. It’s a quick and easy way to send our little broadcasts in 140 characters or less to your followers. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: Windows Phone has plenty of solid Twitter clients, enough so that everyone should be able to find what matches their personal preference. Twabbit is one of our top favorite apps as it’s fast, looks great and comes chock full of features.

Normally, Twabbit runs from the $0.99 to $1.49 range, but with the latest update that rolled out on June 26th, the app has gone free for a limited time.

You may recall the media reporting that Microsoft was looking to purchase Nokia and then we covered well-respected Finnish newspaper Helsingin Sanomat, which detailed a rather bleak picture regarding Nokia. If that wasn't enough already, Nokia's board of directors were rumoured to have been summoned to Finland and Joe Belfiore was even seen wandering around Nokia's campus while on vacation.

The official Twitter app for Windows Phone, which received a hearty update a few months ago, has just been bumped to version 2.1 and it’s quite significant too.

The big new feature is integrated Lens support with filters. That means you can snap a photo and quickly post it to your Twitter account (or accounts, as multiple ones are supported) and add some nifty filters like Vignette, Warm, Cool, 1963, 1972, Golden Hour, Antique, and the classic Black and White.

The Windows Phone team has recently partnered with mobile photography community We Are Juxt to discuss how the platform has reinvented taking photos with a smartphone (or rather how Nokia is leading the front with its optics development). The team will be holding a live chat on Twitter today to discuss tips and tricks, as well as some stories around the campfire. If you take part and join in the party, you could win a Nokia Lumia 928.

Now this could be everything, or it could be nothing at all, but Joe Belfiore has teased on Twitter that he may have something for the Windows Phone community (or rather the general public) in the next few days. The manager of the Windows Phone division at Microsoft recently celebrated his Birthday and was greeted by numerous messages on the social network.

Popular Twitter client MeTweets has been bumped to version 2 and the latest release is now available on the Wndows Phone Store. We previously looked at the app a few days ago when we managed to get a sneak peek at what consumers can expect to see in the update. From the new Smart Split and Smart Merge features to a new design for Timelines and profile pages, it's quite a sizeable release.

Time to Tweet, Windows 8 gets official Twitter app

Windows 8 ‘officially’ launched way back in late October of last year. However, developers and enthusiasts have been using it for much longer, so you’d think there would have been an official Twitter app at launch, right? Nope. Instead we didn’t hear that Twitter was working on an app until the ///BUILD developer conference in Redmond. Four months later, we now have Twitter for Windows 8.
