vine

Combine animated GIFs with text messaging in GIF Chat. The app is from Pinger, the creators of the popular free texting and calling app, Textfree. Quickly record videos, add captions and swap them privately with your friends. It’s like putting Snapchat and Vine together in one app. The app has been available on Android and iOS, but has just been released for Windows Phone 8.

Has Windows Phone finally come of age? Microsoft emphatically says 'yes'

With today’s announcement that Instagram has arrived for Windows Phone along with Waze (Mint and Xbox Video are still “coming soon”), Windows Phone as an operating system has finally reached a significant turning point. At least according to Microsoft.

We recently sat down with Todd Brix, General Manager, Windows Apps and Store at Microsoft, who walked us through some of the recent accomplishments. Brix and Microsoft are claiming that with the recent spate of app releases, a “critical mass” has finally pushed Windows Phone into the big leagues. Windows Phone now has parity on most of the top download apps found on iOS and Android with an “85% overlap” in top-25 titles, according to the company.

We have 6 reasons why third-party application, 6sec, is better than the official Vine app for Windows Phone. 6sec has been around since July while the official app just came out on Tuesday. Both have the essential features of viewing and uploading Vine videos, but 6sec comes out on top right now.

We have a video comparing these two apps, so go watch it after the break.

Hands on with the official Vine app for Windows Phone

It’s finally here. Silently announced back in July and mentioned again at Nokia World, the official Vine app is now available at the Windows Phone store. We’ve been using third-party apps like 6sec and Viner for a while now, but it feels great to finally have the official app at the store.  We go hands-on with the new app to show you how it looks on Windows Phone.

Head past the break to watch our walkthrough video.

Updated 11:30 AM ET: The Official Vine app is now live in the Store. Link below.

Vine has today announced on the official blog that their Windows Phone app will be released today. Fans of the service have been left with little choice but rely on third-party solutions (6sec and Viner to name a few) while Vine looked at developing an official app for Microsoft's mobile platform. We covered an unveiling of the official Vine app at Nokia World 2013, but soon you'll be able to download the app and create some awesome short clips.

Nokia today unveiled that an official Vine (www.vine.co) app is well on the way to Windows Phone. If you're not familiar with the service, it's a social network owned by Twitter. You essentially record and share clips that are up to 6 seconds in length. The recordings can be of anything you choose, be it cats, humorous sketches or just random updates.

We’ve been reporting on 6Sec, the new Vine app from developer extraordinaire Rudy Huyn (Wikipedia, Fuse, TVShow) for a few weeks now, detailing some of the progress of the app. Then earlier this morning, we told you it was set for public release after many hard hours of beta testing by nearly a thousand users.

While an official Vine app was announced last week for Windows Phone, from our understanding that app is still in gestation and we don’t expect it for weeks if not months to hit the Store. Even then, we have a sneaky suspicion that Huyn’s version will still be better, due to his flair for design and perfection.

Luckily for Windows Phone 8 fans, you can now join in on the Vine-phenomenon by downloading 6Sec right from the Store today.

We've followed the development of 6Sec, an unofficial Vine app for Windows Phone, for some time. Being part of the beta program has also enabled us to bring to you the latest features that have been implemented, prior to the app being published to the store. Rudy Huyn, the developer behind 6Sec, has now tweeted that the app will be going live later today at 7pm GMT (or 19:00 for us 24-hour folk).

We've previously looked at Viner for Windows Phone 8, a now popular unofficial Vine (www.vine.co) app. The developer of said app got in touch with us today to relay news that a version for Windows Phone 7 hardware has been submitted and is now available for download. Now everyone with a Windows Phone can enjoy more vines than before.
