windows 8 apps

Microsoft keeps on keeping on with the fine tuning of their Facebook Beta app. It was just 8 days ago that an update to version 5.0.1.4 came out, and already version 5.0.1.5 has made its way to the Windows Phone Store. The lack of change log likely means that this is a mishmash of bug fixes and performance improvements, but hey, we'll take it.

A few days ago I sat down and reviewed one of my favorite news consumption apps, Pouch. The elegant Pocket client for Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8 brings a clean and uncluttered reading experience to your favorite mobile devices.

The copy of Pouch for Windows 8 used in last week’s review was a private beta, not yet available to the general public. In anticipation of the upcoming software update, the developer has dropped the price of Pouch by 50% to $1.49.

If you’re a movie buff (and really, who isn’t?), then you’ll want to peep a relatively new app called Film Closet from Vaggelis Diatsigkos, a student at the University of Patras (Greece). The app is available for free on Windows Phone (7.x and 8) and Windows RT.

The app is what it sounds like: a repository for all things in movies these days. Think of IMdB but with more meat to it and a solid Modern UI design. The app accesses TheMovieDB for its info and it should allow users to access more than 60,000 movies, including all current and upcoming releases.

The official National Rail Enquiries app for Windows 8 has been updated. The app was previously bumped to include numerous new features that consumers could take advantage of. The change log remains the same on the store listing, so we can only speculate that this latest release is a minor update to fix some bugs and implement improvements.

Besides getting praise from us here at Windows Phone Central, Weave has near universal acclaim in its Store ratings from all you out there.
