Microsoft made some radical changes to the Windows platform with the launch of Windows 8. Some consumers adapted to the new Modern user interface, while others struggled to move on from the Start menu, not effectively utilising the Start screen with Live Tiles and other functionality. Microsoft has spent a great deal of time designing Windows 8 from the ground up in terms of making it a great operating system for both tablet and traditional non-touch screen notebook style machines. There are a few companies, who do not believe that is enough. Whether it be that they feel Windows 8 is not efficient enough as a touch operating system or they simply believe it does not have enough of a robust application store, they have turned to what they believe could be a possible savior – Android.

If you belong to the “PC Master Race” (see meme) when it comes to gaming, then there is a good chance you are still running Windows 7 instead of Microsoft’s latest operating system. It’s hard to imagine that Windows 8 launched to consumers a little over 13 months ago. It feels like we've been using the OS for quite some time. The operating system did had some initial weaknesses, which were for the most part corrected with the Windows 8.1 update. The Windows Store has also seen growth in both the number of apps and the number of quality apps. Which is exactly what Microsoft is promoting in the video after the break.

For those keeping track, Windows 8/8.1 holds almost four times more market share than Apple’s latest operating system, Max OS X 10.9.

Review: Lenovo's Miix 10 Keyboard Case

Last month we reviewed Lenovo’s Miix 10 and I found the overpriced Atom powered Windows 8 tablet to be less than impressive. We recently reported that Windows Phone is the world’s fastest growing smartphone operating system with a 275% percent growth rate, but that might not be Microsoft’s only reason to smile. According to NetMarketShare, Windows 8 now owns 9.25% of the desktop market. Breaking that number down even further, we find that 1.72% of all market share belongs to Windows 8.1, while the other 7.53% belongs to the vanilla version, Windows 8.
