Are you eagerly awaiting the arrival of Santa? The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) is too, and you can team up with Microsoft to see exactly where Santa is. Previously available, 'NORAD Tracks Santa' received large amounts of traffic back in 2012 and the website is once again available for 2013. What's more is there are apps for both Windows 8 and Windows Phone.

The Skype apps on Windows 8 and Windows Phone have been involved in a rather heated, yet slightly humorous discussion in the past. Microsoft originally made it so consumers could not close down the app completely on either platform, unless you rebooted or uninstalled the app.

Cartoonist Scott Adams has published the above Skype comic, illustrating just how annoying this problem was (and still is) for some.

Around these parts the majority of you might be using OneNote as your note taking application. It has applications on most platforms, syncs across devices and more. Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 are both great platforms. While they’re made by Microsoft, there are times you might feel like two different companies built them. They might look the same, but there are features from each you wish the other had. Case in point, you can search for apps on Windows Phone using your web browser, but you can’t do that for Windows 8 apps. At least you couldn’t do that yesterday, now you can.

Digital Cloud Technologies has published VK (www.vk.com) apps for Windows 8 and RT. These clients will enable users to log into their VK accounts and enjoy social features within the familiar Windows 8 experience - perfect for tablets. If you're not into Facebook and would like to try out something new, it's certainly worth looking into (rather humorously, Facebook Connect is supported by VK). VK is the second most popular social network in Europe, but it is used particularly by Russian-speaking users, not being widely known in the US.

When it rains it pours. While we’re in San Francisco enjoying that warm, California sunshine, official apps are raining down between Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8. Yesterday we saw the Discovery Networks and ABC News app release their official wares. But believe it or not, sometime within the past 5 days Songza came to the Windows Store and we all missed it. Songza is now available for Windows 8, details after the break.

Songza is a free music streaming and recommendation service. It launched way back in 2007, since then it’s had a few different iterations and updates as it slowly found its own angle on the streaming music scene. Because you can’t just build another Pandora, you need to do something different. And that’s just what they did last March in 2012 when they launched their Music Concierge feature.

We've been informed that Liquid Daffodil has finally managed to get its Unification app listed on the Windows 8 Store, enabling consumers to download and utilise the notification centre across the Windows ecosystem. So what's Unification all about? If you're not familiar with the name, or have somehow missed our previous coverage, it's a notification centre that pulls in and stores alerts and notifications from third-party apps.

Blondinbella apps for both Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8 have been released. Should you be a fan of the popular and well-known Swedish blogger, these apps are a must have. If you're not familiar with the UK service, TVCatchup is a free way to watch television shows when not sat in front of the big screen. Unfortunately, despite the naming, TVCatchup does not sport functionality to enable users to watch shows that have already been on air, but the available free streaming is a great feature for any device.

TVCatchup already has an app available for Windows 8, but there's also currently an app in development for Windows Phone 8. All About Windows Phone has taken a look at what we can expect.
