wireless charging

Nokia's DT-900 wireless charging pad is no stranger to the deals corner and it's back once again. This time out if you head on over to Tanga, you'll be able to pick one up for $14.99 plus shipping to anywhere in the mainland U.S. It doesn't say which color you'll be getting, though the pictures on the site at least show black and white. So maybe it's pot luck.

Qi wireless charging is heavily supported with Windows Phone, especially since Nokia utilises the technology in most of its premium Lumia smartphones. Today, the Wireless Power Consortium announced that both Microsoft and Samsung Electro-Mechanics (a subsidy of Samsung) have joined the board.

This board drives Qi's adoption across mobile hardware and other technologies and the move for Microsoft makes sense as the company prepares to take Nokia's hardware division.

Charging your Windows Phone is a thing of the past with certain Nokia Lumia smartphones. The ability to rest the handset on a cradle or stand makes it painless to give the device a few hours of charge before heading out. If you haven't yet bought a Qi wireless charger to go with a compatible Windows Phone, the Nokia DT-910 is available for just £33.95 on Amazon.

Wireless charging and Windows Phone have gone hand-in-hand since Nokia entered the scene back in 2011. If you own a Windows Phone (or any compatible Qi device) and don't currently have a wireless charging dock at hand, you may want to check out the latest DailySteals offer for the Nokia "Fatboy" DT-901 Wireless Charging Pillow.

From a novelty to a norm, wireless charging is increasingly becoming a popular feature especially with the consistent push from Nokia and innovative accessories to complement them.

After Nokia introduced the DT-900 wireless charging plate and the Fatboy wireless charging pillow with the launch of the Nokia Lumia 920, their first Qi-compatible Windows Phone device, several brands have followed up with their variants of wireless chargers like the Mugenizer N11 I wrote about last week. In this post, let’s take a look at wireless charges from Mugen Power, Tylt, and Brando that I’ve been trying out since a while.

The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC), a collaborative effort of more than 180 companies, is the brand behind the Qi wireless charging standard we've enjoyed on Nokia Lumia Windows Phones since the Lumia 920. Today, the consortium announced a new resonant wireless charging system, which will be demonstrated this week at CES.

The Nokia JBL Powerup charging Bluetooth speaker is on sale this weekend at AT&T. You can pick it up online for just $119. While the retail price is $300, many places sell it now for around $150. At $119, it’s a great deal for an awesome accessory.

The Nokia JBL PowerUp wireless charging speaker features NFC and Bluetooth, so you don’t need wires to connect it with your phone. There’s also wireless charging built in, so you can just place your Qi-enabled phone on top of it.

One of the fantastic advancements with Windows Phone design development is wireless charging.  It eliminated the need to plug your Windows Phone up to a charging cord.  Plus you have the cool factor of simply laying your Windows Phone down on a charging pad to replenish the battery.

While Nokia offers a Qi-Enabled wireless charger (the DT-900), there are a few third party options out there.  RAVPower is one such alternative and the company offers their own Qi-Enabled wireless charger that may save you a few dollars at the checkout line without compromising quality or performance.

We recently reported on AT&T's launch page for the Nokia Lumia 1520 and how built-in wireless charging was absent. We noted how this decision would have not been to save cost or a few milometers on the device, but possibly affected by AT&T's involvement with Qi rival PMA (Power Matters Alliance). The company appears to have opted for wireless charging shells instead.

It’s been speculated that AT&T’s version of the Lumia 1520 would, for whatever reason, omit Qi wireless charging. Nokia recently told us that there won’t be two versions of the upcoming phablet but evidently there will be.

AT&T has their ‘Coming Soon’ product page up for the Nokia Lumia 1520, and while they have done an admirable job of promoting the new device, the specs specifically note that wireless charging is not included.

Portable chargers are becoming more and more popular, especially with Windows Phones. Nokia is pushing forward with wireless charging and its own family of chargers that can be carried along for the ride. The Lumia 1020 also has a portable charger inside its camera grip accessory. Now Mugen Power will be unleashing a 4800mAh wireless portable charger, and it supports the Qi standard.

Nokia has been playing with the wireless transfer of energy and mobile phones since the Lumia 920, which was the first Windows Phone to feature wireless charging - a cool concept that's incredibly useful in the field. But what if you could go one step further and charge your phone with lightning? Nokia has teamed up with the University of Southampton to achieve just that.

Last fall, Windows Phone joined the world of wireless charging with the introducing of the Nokia Lumia 920 and the HTC 8X on Verizon. The feature was met with mixed reviews, but anyone who has used it will testify to its usefulness. It’s a shame devices like the Lumia 925 and 1020 need covers to add the feature. All Windows Phone devices that can charge wirelessly do so by using the Qi wireless standard.

Qi is currently the leading standard for wireless charging, but others are challenging it. So what happens now that Qualcomm and Verizon have joined the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC), the management board for the Qi standard?

It can be a pain if you find yourself being allergic to mobile phone cases when you pick up the Lumia 925 and realise you can't wireless charge it without one attached. Nokia opted to not include wireless charging as a complete packing inside the shell of the main device, much like what's available on the Lumia 920, instead going with a 50/50 setup and firing out accessories that enable you to get charging.

What if you don't want to keep attaching a case to wireless charge the Windows Phone? A French tutorial has been published that walks you through on how to work around this issue and actually install the full wireless charging package on the Lumia 925, without the need for a case (except for the initial guide walkthrough).
