xbox live for windows phone

Fulfilling our tradition of badly punned headlines, this week’s Xbox LIVE title is Asphalt 5 from Gameloft. And it's ready for your challenge. The weird part? This game was one of the "original 50" Xbox LIVE titles for Windows Phone, meaning it's like just 2 years late.(Seriously, it was announced in August 2010).

Racing games can be fun and Asphalt 5 should make many folks pleased with some punchy high resolution graphics of dreamy sports cars. Well, at least that’s how Gameloft is selling the game. In fact, it features over 30 cars including such beauts as the Audi R8, Ruf Rt 12, Ford Shelby GT500, Lamborghini Murciélago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce, Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano.

The game clocks in at 109MB, so you’ll need Wi-Fi to install and it’s priced at a moderate $2.99. While that won’t please you “It must be $0.99!” folks we’re okay with the $3 price range for games—especially ones which have high replay value....

We mentioned last week that Microsoft is kicking off a 'Deal of the Week' program for Xbox LIVE games for Windows Phone. The first was 'Frogger' which dropped to $1.99 and now this week it will be 'Star Wars: Battle for Hoth' which is dropping from $4.99 to $2.99. The price drop should go into effect sometime after midnight tonight and it will be good for one-week.

The 'Deal of the Week' program is popular on the Xbox LIVE console and is now being brought over to Windows Phone to help drive sales of games that either have passed under the radar or are older and need more exposure. 'Frogger' and 'Star Wars: Battle for Hoth' were both at or near launch of Windows Phone 7, so it's good to see them getting re-mentioned. See our review for SW: BFH right here and the recent update changelog here.

No secret around here that's we're a bit underwhelmed by the Xbox LIVE for Windows Phone offerings of late. That's about to change in April with Angry Birds and six other "blockbuster" titles coming our way.

One game that was listed but not seen though was 'Hydro Thunder GO', a pretty sweet looking boat racing game that finally brings some arcade action our way. We're actually excited over this title. Just watch the video, pick your jaw up and let us know what you think.
