app

We've covered Microsoft's push into the realm of two-step authentication quite extensively as the company continues to roll changes out and patch up broken areas of its backend. This includes the Dev Center app for Windows Phone, which caused issues for those who desired to utilise the app after upgrading their account to be more secure. Microsoft has now reported that it has fixed the problem.

Microsoft has released its Switch to Windows Phone apps on both Android and Windows Phone. Available on Google Play and the Windows Phone Store, the apps work in unity to help make it easier for those on Google's platform to hop across. It's a welcomed addition and one we believed would be of use for those who would like to check how many of the apps they use are available on Windows Phone.

It's unfortunate that we have to break the run of banking apps being released for Windows Phone with news of the United Services Automobile Association (USAA) app being pulled. The app has been available on the platform for quite some time, but will not be updated for Windows Phone 8 and will no longer be supported. So what's happened?

This is not a drill. I repeat, this is not a drill. The BBC has announced, in a recent blog post about mobile and the iPlayer service, that a Windows Phone app is well on the way. Consumers who reside within the UK will soon be able to enjoy content on the catch-up service. This will prove to be a huge boost for Windows Phone as a top media provider looks to support the platform. So when can we expect to see the app arrive?

Nokia has uploaded a video onto YouTube that shows off its exclusive Burton app, which is available for Lumia Windows Phones. The app was announced back at Mobile World Congress last week and sports some interesting features. The mobile phone and snowboard manufacturers have worked together on the app to implement features like Nokia Music connectivity, as well as a powerful lens through Nokia's sequencer API.

We've had an interesting image sent in from a reader, showing what appears to be an Instagram logo on the home screen of a Lumia 620 being advertised. The promotional material shows the Windows Phone in Portugal listed for 170 euro with a coupled package, but what's interesting about the device is definitely the mysterious use of the Instagram logo. Could this be a sign of what's to come, or is the app being falsely advertised?

We've received reports from readers that iHeartRadio has ceased to work correctly on Windows Phone 8. The popular radio app is a superb solution for those who enjoy tuning into an array of stations while on the go. It has in fact been delisted for Windows Phone 8 hardware, but is still available for those who are running Windows Phone 7.

Going, going, going, gone. The popular (and well established) Twitter client for Windows Phone is being pulled and support discontinued, according to a team blog post over on the developer's website. Development has been slow and updates pushed back, but light was at the end of the tunnel when Red Badger tasked an intern developer with the Windows Phone app to bring new features and functionality to the table.

It's a shame to see the app finally retire from service, but it's understandable with the lack of progress. So what's caused Red Badger to decide on disbanding Bridsong for Windows Phone?

Metrotube was recently pulled due to YouTube alterations that broke playback. The developer has got in touch with us to reveal that an update containing a fix has been submitted and should be live in the Store within the next 24 hours (it is currently live for those in the US). The app update has passed certification, meaning consumers will be seeing the release shortly.

We've already reported on WhatsApp's absence from the Windows Phone 8 Store, but now confirmation has been published that quotes a response from Nokia Care. The reply contains details on when we can expect to see the popular service make an appearance for new Windows Phone hardware. We've received countless emails pleading for information. Well, here we have it.

The past few weeks we've seen apps pulled from the Marketplace with little to no explanation. A few days ago PayPal was one that went MIA for Windows Phone 8 devices, but was still available for those running a 7.x device. Crashes were the most likely culprit for the dissapearing act. Good news though, it's back.

Creating ringtones on Windows Phone isn't technically a difficult task, but it's not incredibly straight forward either. Nokia has taken steps to address this for its Lumia Windows Phone owners with a new app that's available in the Nokia Collection. Ringtone Maker is a simple app that does exactly what it says on the tin - it enables users to take tracks saved locally on the device and turn them into ringtones.

We don't enjoy relaying news such as this, but it appears as though Volt Link, an app enabling Windows Phone owners who are OnStar subscribers (www.onstar.com) to access actions and functionality using the handset, will no longer be supported or available on Windows Phone.

The developer has revealed to a Windows Phone Central reader that a cease and desist letter was sent by GM/OnStar, requesting the immediate withdrawal of the app from the Store.

Going... going... gone.

Draw Something, an app that has been brought to the Windows Phone platform as an exclusive to Nokia Lumia hardware, has been pulled from the Nokia Collection. We previously looked at the popular cross-platform game earlier today when it arrived, and now we're covering the news that it's indeed gone - for the time being that is.

We don’t happen to use AT&T’s U-verse service, which allows users to download and watch some big name TV shows on their Widnows Phone. The service is part of the whole U-verse package from AT&T and while the app only had some mediocre reviews, it was still a nice option if you had AT&T’s internet and TV package at home. And even if you didn’t have their services, you could still opt in for $9.99 a month.

But it looks like it wasn’t meant to last as AT&T is discontinuing the app effective November 20th for reasons unspecified. Perhaps it is because they have a Windows Phone version coming out and they don’t want to support both or maybe not many people used it—we’ll never know.

Source: AT&T;  Thanks, everyone, for all the tips!

StyleSaint - exclusively for Nokia Lumia Windows Phones

While we’re still waiting on Viber HD from Nokia to go live today (more on that later, when it’s available), another app has come forth for those with fashion on their minds.

StyleSaint (www.stylesaint.com) can now be downloaded for Nokia Lumia phones, allowing you to browse the latest fashions, clip them, make your own ‘stylebook’ and then share it with the world.

The official Twitter account for New Zealand's bank ASB (www.asb.co.nz) tweeted a photo that teases a Windows Phone app for customers to make use of mobile banking. ASB joins numerous other banks that have released apps for the platform, adding another name to the pool of officially supported apps.

While no details are included, we can see the app offering a number of features. Amongst the list of menu items is an option for exchange rates and possible conversion calculators, as well as the ability to locate nearest branches and (we'd assume) ATMs, receive quick balance checks to stay on top of the bottom line without diving into feature rich account management, visit the official ASB website and to contact the bank for enquiries.
