Chase app for Windows Phone in the works?

There has been a discussion going on over in the WPCentral Forums for some time about the hopes of a Chase banking app would find it's way to the Windows Phone platform.  A recent email response one of our readers received from Chase gives us hope that a Chase Bank App is in the works for Windows Phone. Currently Chase only offers an app for the iPhone and Android devices but in an email response to one of our readers, that may change.

According to the email a Chase Internet Service Center Rep, states:

As of right now, the Chase application is only applicable with the Android and iOS platforms. We have consulted our Online Management Team and they will be implementing an application for Windows phones this July 2012.

Several European banks already have apps available over in the Windows Phone Marketplace but for the U.S. Market, Bank of America and USAA seem to be the only two currently available. Hopefully with Chase jumping on board, other banking and financial institutions will follow suit.

You can chime in on the WPCentral Forums discussion here or sound off in the comment section below if the thought of a Chase (or any other bank for that matter) app is something you'd like to see.

Thanks Sed for the tip!

Sweden's largest bank, Handelsbanken, has released its official app over on the Windows Phone Marketplace. The Handelsbanken app gives customers access to a wide range of banking services including:

  • Balance and transactions
  • Transfers between own and others' accounts
  • Open and close bank cards for internet purchases
  • Open and close bank cards for purchases and withdrawals abroad

You also have the ability to find branch office locations, view current mortgage rates, and access tv feeds from Handelsbanken TV. The ability to close bank cards to prevent them from being used is lost or stolen is a very nice feature.

Skandia Bank releases Windows Phone app

Skandia, a Swedish bank, has released a Windows Phone app which blows the recently highlighted Barclays secure pass generator out the water. Skandia's offering allows customers to perform common account operations and manipulate account settings, including the following:

  • Account overview and bank statements
  • Transfers
  • Brief overview of all connected cards
  • Region lock to set up a card when travelling broad
  • Spending limit

An interesting feature is the ability to set the spending limit. The user can change the overall spending limit, set a spending limit for internet purchases, or completely block the card for purchases on the Internet altogether.

You can download Skandia bank & försäkring from the Marketplace for free.

Barclays Bank releases Secure Pass app

Barclays, a UK bank, has released a passcode generator for Windows Phone. While at least it's something from the bank to customers who use Windows Phone, the app itself is pretty poor and limited. It replaces the passcode generator for security verification and looks like an iPhone rip. The app description is a beauty:

"Secure Pass is a one-time passcode generation application"

Sure, it may just be a passcode generation app and nothing more, but it should be a full scale experience that acts as a gateway to online banking. Are you using the app for banking, what are your thoughts on it? You can download Secure Pass from the Marketplace for free.

Thanks Tahiti for the heads up!

We saw this way back in January and then we had an exclusive sneak peek a few weeks ago, but now the official Bank of America app is ready for your daily use. The app is quite smooth, fast loading and even has a svelte design, adhering to the Metro paradigm pretty well i.e. this isn't just a port. Here's the full description:

FEATURES

  • Pay bills and transfer funds
  • Review account balances
  • Find ATM and banking center locations using GPS, with no address input required
  • Feel secure with our industry-leading mobile security and our Online Banking Security Guarantee

MOBILE BANKING SECURITY

  • Your personal information is protected by advanced encryption technology to help prevent unauthorized access.
  • We are committed to protecting the privacy of your financial information. See the Privacy Policy for Consumers at www.bankofamerica.com.
  • As part of our Online Banking Security Guarantee, you’re not responsible for fraudulent charges made by others.

The Bank of America Windows Phone 7 app was first mentioned during Steve Ballmer's CES 2011 keynote address. We are now getting indications that the app is in the final stages of testing and should be available over at the Marketplace soon.

Not sure if this will be how the final product looks but based on the screen shots we've received, it appears the app will give you access to a wide range of banking information. Features appear to include checking account balances, paying bills, transferring funds and finding local branches.  Branch searches will pull up Bing Maps and map the nearest branches to your current location.  We're not sure if turn-by-turn directions will be a part of the search results.  The app looks nice and should be well received by Bank of America customers.

It's a nice looking app and hopefully other financial institutions will follow Bank of America's lead and bring more banking apps to the Windows Phone.

Acculynk bringing PaySecure to mobile devices

Acculynk, creators of PaySecure, announced in a press release today that they will be developing a mobile version of their Internet PIN debit platform for Windows Phone 7, iPhone, Android and BlackBerry systems.

Here's how it works: when a customer makes a debit card purchase at a website that uses PaySecure, they enter their debit card number at checkout.  Then, a encrypted graphical keypad, which is embedded into the vendors website, is used to enter the consumer's PIN.  It eliminates the need to sign up for accounts on vendor websites or get directed to third-party sites, like PayPal.

Acculynk's CEO, Ashish Bahl, said in the statement,

"In 2011, our goal is to expand the channels where PIN debit can be accepted, like a mobile phone and even kiosks."

They also hope to move beyond eCommerce, by developing methods for online banking and P2P fund transfers.  You can check out a demo of how it works here.

Pageonce for WP7 available in the Marketplace

Pageonce, the personal finance application, has finally launched in the Marketplace (see our earlier coverage here, including video demo). The free program is similar to Microsoft Money of years past, offering account monitoring, transaction insights, bill tracking, spending history and real time alerts (hello!). Most reports are very positive so far with the biggest complaint being that the available database is too small, meaning your bank for financial institution may not be listed. Yet. We're hoping as Pageonce grows, so will their partners.

You do have to sign up for an account, though it's very simple and basic, allowing you to do it right on the account. We'll do a more focused review in the coming days. If you tried it, hits us up in comments with your thoughts.

Pageonce, who makes software to live monitor your accounts, announced support today for Windows Phone 7. The software looks a lot like what Quicken or Microsoft Money was for Windows Mobile years ago, but goes further with the ability to evidently access and live update your accounts: credit card, bills, banks, etc. It also sounds like it will get its own Hub too on the Start screen, allowing quick access to all of one's finances.

The software should be available in November for free and will feature the following services:

  • Account Monitoring:  A quick and simple snapshot of available cash, credit card balances, upcoming bills, and investment values.
  • Transaction Insights: Ability to dive deeper and look into daily financial transactions and spending behavior
  • Bill Tracking:  A comprehensive look at bills, when they are due and how much is owed
  • Spending History: A monthly spending history and trends across all accounts
  • Real-Time Alerts:  Notifications and updates deliver important account events and help users avoid fees, penalties and suspicious activity

While simple "bill keepers" are one thing, the ability to live-sync to your accounts on the go sounds real good and stuff we should be able to easily do in 2010.

Check out the full YouTube demo after the break--it really looks pretty snazzy and we normally hate financial stuff.

Gas at the pump, 20 dollars. Dinner for two 18 dollars. New pair of shoes, 70 dollars. Knowing how much you spent in the day just by looking at your phone, priceless. Now you can spend without worrying like you use too. New budgets and pie charts will keep you on your road to saving for new golf clubs or that new car. Do yourself a favor download Splash Money. With the money you save from the free trial you can buy the app and smile a lot more. Ready, set, start saving!
