While a review of the Blackberry Mini Stereo Speaker may sound like it's better suited for our friends over at Crackberry.com, the tiny Bluetooth speaker works rather well with our Windows Phones.

The Mini Stereo Speaker is compact, has very good audio quality and has decent battery life. While the mini speaker works great as a external speaker for listening to music, it may not be very practical as a hands-free solution for your Windows Phone.

Finally! a quality sounding Nokia Monster headset! - My exact thoughts as I listened to a track straight from my own Lumia 920 paired to Nokia's Monster branded headset only a few moments before.

Here are MWC Nokia have announced a slew of accessories, mostly focussing arround the wireless charging being offered with the new Lumia 720 and 520. However there are also a few of the older accessories on show for us to try out, and despite the purity pro headset winning an award at CES, we haven't yet put the cups over our ears - that changed today.

Justin Angel, Principal Engineer for Windows Phone experience at Nokia, has released a new Bluetooth SDK for Windows Phone 8 that enables developers to take advantage of connectivity with MindWave portable EEG headsets. Said devices can pair with a Windows Phone to display readings in both data and chart form for users to look through.

Bluetooth accessory for HTC Windows Phone owners?

HTC could be building a portfolio of official accessories for its Windows Phone 8 family of smartphones if a recently published video is anything to go by. Nokia has unveiled a number of extras that future customers can purchase to further enrich the Lumia Windows Phone experience. Through the inclusion of wireless charging and NFC, the company can offer a collection of products that stand out.

It looks as though the Taiwanese manufacturer is deciding to go down a similar route in attempt to increase profit margins on the platform. With the Beats Audio for marketing, HTC can make use of the popular brand to push forward media accessories, including Bluetooth devices and headphones.

This will prove to be good news for those who were slightly disappointed to see Nokia’s new Lumia devices were only going to support Bluetooth 3.1. According to a listing on Bluetooth.org, both the Lumia 820 and 920 support Bluetooth 4.0.

Bluetooth 4.0 allows for the transfer of information from super low power devices. The reason it’s a big deal is that it will allow for things like workout monitors, everything from a pedometer to a heart rate monitor.

Nokia have just a announced through their Conversations website that existing Lumia phones will get some sweet new feature updates. The new features announced will include addition Bluetooth capabilities, a ringtone maker and of course the new Windows Phone 8 start screen aka the 7.8 OS refresh.

Nokia are not forgetting about their existing customers, they made this clear at the launch of Windows Phone 8 and now we’re seeing them keep to their word.

Nokia announced new Bluetooth headphones at the press conference today as well as a new JBL PowerUp Wireless Charging speaker. This sturdy looking device sports Bluetooth, NFC and wireless charging functionality, which works seamlessly with the Lumia 820 and 920.

Wireless charging enables Lumia 820 / 920 owners to make use of easy top-ups without cluttering a desk or area with more cabling. The speaker -of course- plays music and all that's required is the slightest tap from the Nokia Windows Phones through the use of NFC.

The new wireless Purity Pro headset

Along with the new PlayUp mobile speaker from JBL-Nokia, it looks like those Purity headphones (over the ear) from Monster will also be getting a slight makeover.

The new version, which should be available later this year are not cheap: €299 or about $376. Last we checked, that’s a lot of money for some headphones.

The good news is you’re getting some neat technology this time around as Nokia has made these wireless with NFC pairing and Bluetooth streaming (you can also pair via BT).

The headphones come in four colors including black, red, yellow and white. Sadly, no cyan just yet but that yellow color seem to be the big new color for the Lumia line this year.

Pretty app but needs work

Over at XDA, the lads are focused again on adding new homebrew features to our current Windows Phone devices. One of the big complaints from a handful of users is the inability to share photos or documents via Bluetooth. Windows Phone 8 will fix this by adding that function (and of course its newest brother, NFC) but what about current phones?

Navisluni has released a beta of an app he calls BluePhoto that should give you the ability to share photos via your phone’s precious Bluetooth. We say ‘should’ because it is a hack and it doesn’t work as universally as one would like.

The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) has published the profile for upcoming Windows Phone 8 on its website, which reaffirms what has been previously extracted through scouring the leaked Windows Phone 8 SDK. According to the profile listing, Apollo will support the transfer of files between smartphones.

Moving up from Windows Phone 7.5 both the headset profile and serial protocol are missing from the specification read out, while Audio/Video Remote Control and Audio/Video Control Transport Protocol are sporting new versions, 1.4 and 1.3 respectively. To top everything off, it's Bluetooth 3 and not the latest version 4, which the Apple iPhone 4S already features.

Hopefully we'll be able to see Bluetooth in action soon with upcoming Windows Phone 8 hardware.

One area that Windows Phone has been lacking so far is the ability to do anything with Bluetooth besides connect to hands-free headsets or speakers. Windows Phone 8 looks to finally expand Bluetooth functionality with the leaked SDK detailing some new features available to developers.

For instance, peer-to-peer file sharing is now allowed for apps that want to “talk” to each other. As an example, we could add an ability for the WPCentral app to share links or photos to another phone. Presumably this feature could be used for all sorts of features like in games by unlocking a feature when you pair up with another phone i.e. a social aspect...

An unknown Samsung Windows Phone (SCH-S759) has been WiFi and Bluetooth certified. The device is reported to be CDMA compatible, which leads us to believe this smartphone could be a version of the recently announced Omnia M. Unfortunately, not much else is known about the handset with no other detail or specifications being listed, apart from a spotted agent string - Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; MSIE 9.0; Windows Phone OS 7.5; Trident/5.0; IEMobile/9.0; SAMSUNG; SCH-S759.

With the release of the Focus 2 and Omnia M, one could hope that Samsung is rising to the bar set by Nokia within the Windows Phone market. It's rumoured that this Samsung Windows Phone is set to head for China, probably to combat Nokia and the Lumia 800c, unless Sprint or Verizon is secretly set to unveil a device? We look forward to seeing some more details come to light in the near future, so stay tuned.

Never ones to back down from a challenge the Dark Forces Team (DFT) have created a neat little utility to allow one to transfer files between phones or devices using just Bluetooth. You can even send over XAP files for installation of Windows Phone apps giving users yet another option for file distribution.

The bad news is you'll need a fully-unlocked phone meaning dev and interop devices need not apply. That also limits this currently to Gen 1 devices (as you can see initialization fails on the Titan for obvious reasons).

Still, it's an impressive piece of work and hopefully it will lay the ground work for future hacks, assuming Microsoft doesn't give us the function first.

While Nokia Lumia Windows Phones have taken center stage, the company released a rather interesting Bluetooth Headset. The Nokia Luna is a compact headset that is being offered in five colors and offers NFC support.

While Windows Phones lack NFC support (for the time being) the Luna still is a nice hands free option to consider.

The Nokia Lumia line of Windows Phone definitely turns heads but did you know that Nokia is offering a matching Bluetooth headset? A headset that is sure to turn heads as well?  The Nokia Luna is a button sized Bluetooth headset that is paired with a base that doubles as a storage case and charger. And it's not only the looks that makes the Luna an impressive headset.

Nokia is rating the standby time of the Luna to be 60 days in the storage case (we're guessing the case holds a maintenance charge) with standby time out of the charger at 35 hours. The Luna is also NFC in that you can pair it by laying it flat against the back of a Lumia Windows Phone.

The Luna is available in five colors to match your Lumia handset and just looks cool. We've been told that the Luna is "coming soon" to the U.S. Market. No words on pricing but Euro versions are being imported for around $90 (when you can find them). Once we get our hands on the Luna, we'll get a more detailed review up. In the meantime, hit the break for another Luna video that also highlights the Lumia 800 color choices.

Something that we seemed to have missed at Nokia World (even our one-to-one walkthrough of the extra software never covered this) is the Contacts Transfer app, available to Nokia Lumia owners. The app will allow users to pair their existing Symbian handset to the Windows Phone and transfer contacts across via Bluetooth. These contacts will then be synchronised with the Live ID associated with the phone.

The functionality appears to be limited to contact data and will only work one-way. Once the app has been launched, it will search for local Bluetooth devices, and once the correct device is selected a pairing request will be sent to the Symbian handset. Couldn't be simpler to upgrade to Windows Phone.

With the release date coming ever closer and RTM stage being well underway, it's time for us to see more devices in the news.

It seems HTC are preparing two new handsets for the Mango update. We can now see two new devices that have received Bluetooth certification, although we only have model numbers; PI06XXX and PI39XXX. Could one of these be the HTC Mazaa, Eternity, Ignite or Prime? Are you looking forward to more handsets from the manufacturer?

While we don't know much about the Samsung GT-i8350, we do know it's a Windows Phone running Mango and looks to probably replace the Omnia 7 in Euroland. The phone has evidently received its Bluetooth certification, sporting BT v2.1 with EDR which while not the most exciting news of the day, at least means that (a) this phone still exists and (b) it's on its way to release, to which we say "yaaay!", because we like ourselves some Sammy.

XBox Live's Major Nelson, aka Larry Hyrb, helped announce the arrival of a new bluetooth-enabled headset for XBox 360.  The headset is equipped with a switch that will toggle it between XBox and Bluetooth modes, allowing users to connect to mobile phones, computers and more.  In addition, the power/mute button will now double as the "action" button for answering calls, etc. while connected to Bluetooth.

The new addition to the XBox accessories arsenal will go on to replace the current Xbox standard when it is released in November.  It will retail for $59.99.  The ability to switch from talking on the phone to communicating on a PC or over XBox Live is one more move in the Microsoft's direction of tying all of its platforms together with its "3 screens" approach.  The size and aesthetic lends itself a little better to playing Gears of War in the living room than to wearing around the office or into your local Starbucks, but the versatility is great.

Major Nelson posted a short video describing the features in greater detail on the XBox YouTube page .  You can also see a gallery of the new headgear, along with a new XBox media remote, here.

Seems the Windows Phone team are looking to expand their resources in the Bluetooth area of development on the platform with the latest job vacancy advert being published. Windows Phone 7's support for Bluetooth (in comparison to competitors) is not a feature to be desired and any advancement in the near future (Mango?) would be a welcomed effort by the community. Anyone painfully remember the debacle with Bluetooth a while back?

What are your thoughts on the current Bluetooth implementation for WP7, and what would you be most pleased with changes/improvements wise? Let us know in the comments!

Check out the job advert after the break.
