Looking forward to getting your hands on the most affordable Nokia Lumia Windows Phone to-date? The Lumia 520 is listed on The Carphone Warehouse and O2 websites for just £119.99 on PAYG (Pay As You Go), or from absolutely nothing at all when taken out with a 2-year contract at just £14 a month (with O2). Sound like some good deals are present, right? You'd be correct, ol' chap.

Should you not be aware of the deal shown in the photo above, the Lumia 620 is available at The Carphone Warehouse from just £14 a month. As well as the Windows Phone 8 device, the retailer is also bundling a free Windows 8 upgrade, which will provide some incentive to choose the smartphone over rivalling Android devices.

In one of the more creative offerings we have seen to get people to buy new Windows Phone 8 handsets, we like this one from Carphone Warehouse.  By simply purchasing a Nokia Lumia 820 you qualify for a free upgrade to Windows 8 Pro on your PC. (Unfortunately, Phones4U have an exclusive on the 920).That reinforces the notion that Microsoft (and their partners) are really pushing the idea that the desktop OS and phone are companions.

Fans of Microsoft's mobile OS for years have clamored for such a marketing campaign and now it looks to finally be happening. Thanks, Louis B, for the photo!

Should you be waiting for the Lumia 920 in Europe, popular retailer Phone House (trading as 'The Carphone Warehouse' in the UK) has reportedly confirmed availability of the Nokia Windows Phone for the end of this month. Not only that, but Phone House in France is also offering a free FatBoy with the first 200 purchases (limited to www.phonehouse.fr only / black Lumia 920).

The retailer states all eligible customers will be sent their Fatboy charging accessory by late October / early November. The Fatboy wireless charging pillow is just one of a few accessories that's offered by Nokia for its new Windows Phone devices. Making use of the Qi standard, the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 will be compatible with a number of charging products.

The Carphone Warehouse has revealled an exciting deal for the Lumia 710, available on most major UK carriers. The Windows Phone, which sports a 3.7" display, 5MP rear shooter and 1.4Ghz chip, is now available on contract from just £7.50 a month.

Those familiar with Lumia 710 deals will remember the same price tag being covered earlier in the month for The Carphone Warehouse Smart Deal of the Week. This is a perfect opportunity for those who may have missed out on the previous deal. Included in the cheapest plan (with TalkMobile - The Carphone Warehouse's virtual UK mobile operator running on the Vodafone network) are 100 minutes per month, accompanied by 5000 SMS and 250MBs of data.

This current offer is open until August 30th, celebrating the month's bank holiday so be sure to act quickly should interest spark. Of course, one who does not desire the Windows Phone on contract can pick up a SIM-free version for £99.95 - an irresistible bargain for anyone seeking a cheap-yet-sturdy smartphone.

Listen up UK people. If you fancy picking up a Windows Phone then it may just be the right time to do so. Carphone Warehouse dropped me an email today to announce that their Smart Deal of the week features the Nokia Lumia 710. From now until next Thursday (16th August) you can pick up the Lumia 710 for only £7.50 per month on a two year contract and the phone has no upfront cost - bargain!

For your money you will get 100 minutes per month, 5000 sms and 250MB of data per month. While this offer may not be of interest to heavy users it certainly could be tempting for those of you on a budget. Could Carphone Warehouse be trying to tempt the British teenagers away from their beloved BlackBerry smartphones?

Yes, dear reader it's summer, to celebrate the fact, those nice people at the Carphone Warehouse are generously running a Windows Phone flavoured prize draw. Included in the prize is the chance to win a Lumia 900 and a couple festival tickets to a major unnamed UK based festival. I am personally waiting for summer to start here in London, but am lead to believe its in full swing around the UK presently.

Carphone Warehouse excitedly describes the Lumia 900 like this:

  • A dazzling 4.3" touchscreen
  • An amazing 8MP Carl Zeiss lens camera
  • Crystal clear video calling
  • A super long lasting battery life

Nokia are offering the festival tickets as part of their July Music Promotion. Currently new purchases of the Lumia 610, 800 and the 900 are eligible to receive Music vouchers from Nokia on standard purchases. Whatever the reasons for the promotion it’s good to see both Nokia and the Carphone Warehouse working together to raise awareness of Windows Phone. Interestingly CPW are only offering Windows Phones from Nokia at this point.

Unlike O2 Carphone Warehouse seem to have a good knowledge of the platform and correctly name it as Windows Phone 7.5 on their website. They have also moved to dispel myths about Microsoft’s current mobile OS.  Offers like these are only going to increase awareness of the brand and with the addition of the festival tickets appeal to the hipster demographic amongst us. Not sure I’d take my Lumia 900 along to a muddy festival mind..

In a press release sent out today in the UK, the countries biggest independent phone retailer, Carphone Warehouse has confirmed their future support for Windows Phone 8 and they sounds pretty excited about it.

Graham Stapleton, Chief Operating Officer at Carphone Warehouse says, “What was once a battle of hardware between the manufacturers, has now become a battle of software. Both customers and developers can look forward to reaping the benefits in the coming months, as Windows Phone 8 brings some much needed variety and depth to the market.”

Graham adds, “We will definitely be supporting Windows Phone 8 in line with the key manufacturers. There are some very exciting devices due this Autumn sporting the new operating system, and they will be fundamental to its success.”

I realize that all the UK carriers and retailers will sell Windows Phone but it is nice to see the Carphone Warehouse with such positive statements.

Combined with them selling the Microsoft Surface the stores are going to be very Metro-ish. ( I think I made that word up!)

Those nice folk at Carphone Warehouse here in the UK dropped us an email this morning detailing their excitement following on from yesterdays Microsoft Surface tablet announcement.

According to Carphone Warehouse, the Surface will 'trigger a new tablet race' which is quite possibly true. With prices and dates still yet to be announced I hope that Microsoft either rectify that or at least keep up the hype with TV advertising etc.

With Carphone Warehouse being the largest independent mobile phone retailer in the UK, with over 800 stores nationwide, it is sure to push the Suface heavily. In its larger stores they already seem to sell as many tablets and notebooks as they do phones so I see the 'Surface' being a great marketing tool for them.

Graham Stapleton, Chief Commercial Officer at Carphone Warehouse, says,

“Microsoft’s first foray into producing both tablet hardware and software is an exciting addition to the market, which has been relatively quiet over the last few months. Today’s news is really going to shake things up. Microsoft’s Surface is going to appeal beyond the existing tablet community and draw in new tablet users, especially with the new Windows 8 software. Microsoft Office functionality and the dual-purpose cover keyboard should go down well with professionals who may have been put off by touch screen keyboards in the past.”

Graham adds that Microsoft has set the bar high. Noting that manufacturers are going to have to work harder than ever to innovate and convince the customer that their tablet can top this. There's little argument that the Surface is an exciting product and it's nice to see retailers get an early start at promoting the tablet.

The Carphone Warehouse has the Lumia 710 at an attractive price of just £99.99 (excluding required £10 top-up), which widens the gap between itself and the supposedly "dirt cheap" Lumia 610 priced at £180 with Clove UK. The Windows Phone is the first Nokia smartphone to be priced below £100 since the partnership began with Microsoft.

The Lumia 710 will remain priced at £100 with Carphone Warehouse until June 7th, so be sure to get in quickly should you be looking to pick one up. The Windows Phone is perfect for those who don't require a device like the Lumia 800, Samsung Omnia, or HTC TITAN, and sports a 1.4GHz processor, 512MB RAM, and 8GB storage.

The Carphone Warehouse and Phones4U, two popular UK mobile phone retailers, have both joined Clove UK in listing the Lumia 900 (our review) on their websites for pre-order and interest registration. The handset is launching in the states on AT&T's LTE network, so it's good to see the international version (HSPA+) hit the British shores.

The Carphone Warehouse expects to release the handset in May, and has an interest registration page setup for alerts to be sent out when pre-ordering is available. Phones4U on the other hand has already gone live with pre-orders for both the black and white version of the Lumia 900.

What's more is the retailer is offering a free Nokia Play 360 Wireless speaker (worth £120) with a Lumia 900 pre-order. Not a bad deal. As well as the speaker, the white version is exclusive to the retailer according to the order page, and they expect to have the Windows Phone ready for delivery by April 27th.

We're not sure when this was published, since it's well hidden on the website, but it would appear as though the Carphone Warehouse has a soft spot for Windows Phone. They have an entire page dedicated to attacking myths that are continuously posted by those who are fans of competitor platforms, or who simply don't like Microsoft products.

From terrible battery life, to the lack of apps, the most common groans and moans are all covered in this myth buster. The following excerpt from the article sums up the user friendliness perfectly:

"Windows® Phone has a Start screen with large Live Tiles (icons) that are easy to read and not fiddly to use. It's also simple to customise and pin the apps and live updates you want right on the Start screen. Then you swipe to the right to access the full list of apps. Options are accessible in any app by pressing the three dots in the bottom right of the screen. And there's a home button, a back button and a search button on the front of each phone. Simple."

Be sure to check out the full article at the Carphone Warehouse. All-in-all we're impressed with this positive exposure for the platform (and a strong sign of support). Also, for it to be handled by a popular UK retailer is even better. There's more that can be done, however.

Take the above screen capture. This is from the navigation drop-down on the Carphone Warehouse UK website. As you will have noticed - there's no Windows Phone accompanying Android and the iPhone menu entries. Then again, the retailer has continued to stock and promote Windows Phone handsets (including the upcoming Lumia 900) on the website with some good deals. Either way, hats off to the Carphone Warehouse.

We reported a few weeks ago the site Carphone Warehouse was taking pre-registrations for the Nokia Lumia 900 with an expected June release. Now the site has quietly update that to May signaling perhaps an accelerated schedule or newer, more detailed information.

Either way that's good news for those of you looking to get this phone sooner than later. While this isn't a pre-order and no money is exchanged it's a relatively safe way to register your interest in the monster Nokia phone.

The European Lumia 900, which was announced at MWC earlier today (or yesterday for those GMT and beyond), is now available for interest registration at the Carphone Warehouse. The Lumia 900 is also going to be stocked at other retailers including Unlocked Mobiles, and sports a 4.3" AMOLED (with ClearBlack technology) display, 16GB storage, 8MP camera (with FF), 512MB RAM and a 1.4Ghz chip.

No word on the pricing as of yet, but we suspect it'll be competitive and will look to be around the £450 mark. According to the registration page, they are looking at a June 2012 launch.

The magenta version of the Lumia 800 is well on its way with Carphone Warehouse expecting the handset to be available this month. Joining the cyan and black colours, it will be interesting to see how the pink catches the eyes of females and those who would be fond of such a coloured phone (I personally owned a j700 back in the day).

Should you be eager to see what plans you can get Nokia's magenta Windows Phone on, check out Phones4U (link below) who have got O2, Orange and Vodafone contracts available, from just £20 a month.

For those of you who are still waiting for the Nokia Lumia 800 to be available in magenta (pink), and reside in the UK, you may now rejoice at the news that the Carphone Warehouse will be stocking the handset in a months time. Following Orange FR, who added the pink model to their website store, you'll be able to order yours on this side of the channel soon enough. Will you be picking one up?
