Case

A "waterproof cover" for the Lumia 620 Windows Phone is on its way according to a tweet published by Sander Teunissen, sales manager at Nokia Netherlands. Think back to the waterproof Fujitsu IS12T Windows Phone, but potentially sporting the Nokia brand and ability to take a cover off when it's not required.

One of the cooler things we’ve seen here at Mobile World congress is this nifty Nokia X Burton snuggly case for your Lumia (truth be told, you can jam any phone in there).

First pillows for your phone and now a sleeping bag, you ask? What’s going on here? Well, this isn’t a gimmick as evidently putting your phone in the really, really cold (we’re talking below 0) is bad for the battery. Using this case when camping, snowboarding or ice fishing will prolong your battery up to 50% longer, which last we checked is a good idea.

The HTC Titan is a sleek, attractive Windows Phone that still remains to be a favourite among many consumers. Now that both the 8S and 8X are readily available in multiple markets, how does one spice up the Titan to prolong (or refresh) its beauty? A fresh paint job, of course. This is also perfect if you've somehow managed to accumulate a few scratches on the back plate.

Gibbage Cases is an interesting home grown venture that takes advantage of 3D printing to produce a protective case for your HTC 8X Windows Phone. The cases are the creation of Kevin "Gibbage" Miller that have been designed with three principals in mind. Protection, Design and Function.

A little while ago we took a look at the Cimo S-Line Back Case for the Nokia Lumia 920. This go around we're focusing in on the same Cimo case but one fitted for the HTC 8X.

The Cimo S-Line Back Case is a skin styled case that wraps around the HTC 8X to protect it mostly from nicks and scrapes. The case may protect the 8X from some bumps but I wouldn't count on it to protect the Windows Phones from drops of any height.  There's just not enough to the Cimo case to add any cushion to things.

The Deal of the Week at the Windows Phone Central store this time around is the Amzer Shellster case + holster combo for the Lumia 900. Normally priced at $19.95 the case got a 50% discount for $9.95 this week only. Luckily we’ve had the case for a few weeks now and can share our thoughts on it.

Check out our video review above and some photos and our mini-review after the break or read our earlier, full-review here.

Amzer Shellster ShellCase with Holster for the Nokia Lumia 900 Windows Phone

There's a new case for your Nokia Lumia 900 over at the Windows Phone Central Accessory Store. It's the Amzer Shellster ShellCase with holster. The Shellster is a two piece case for your Lumia 900 consisting of a hard shell case and belt clip holster.  The key feature on the holster is the rotating belt clip that can be propped open to serve as a case stand.

The challenge with any case for the Lumia 900 is that the Windows Phone works so well without a case.  The 900 fits nicely in the hand, is solidly built and just looks good naked.  The Shellster does a nice job complimenting the Lumia 900 by offering a belt carry option and a bit of added protection with the shell case.  Overall, the Amzer Shellster isn't a bad option to consider.

When it comes to cases, especially with today’s much classier looking phones, I’m not a big fan. Why cover up something that looks so great?

Well there are exceptions to everything and the Body Glove case for the Focus 2 (review) is one of them. As many of you know, I use the Focus 2 fairly regularly (though I exchange it with the Titan II and Lumia 900 often). It’s a great sized device, brilliant screen, fast and gets good battery life. Plus I like white, glossy phones. You can read more on my impressions here.

So why cover it up? Sometimes even I like a rugged phone and the Body Glove case is just excellent. For one, it fits very well for the device, a staple of all Body Glove cases from my experience. The holes are cut out very accurately, it’s not too thick, and it covers the important areas.

The back of the cover is smooth and flat making it ideal for surfaces (it won’t slide) and the sides have a grip texture to them, making it feel very secure in your hands. But due to the design, it’s very easy for sliding in and out of your pocket. Combined with the already small nature of the Focus 2 (it has a 4” screen) and the combo is a no brainer for carrying around....

Not only can you buy the Gel Case for the Lumia 900 on AT&T today but you can also pick up the brand new "bumper" case which is not as comprehensive but still offers some edge protection to the device.

Inspired from the Apple iPhone design, the $20 accessory comes in bright green and blue and should liven up your device a bit, especially if you opt for the black Lumia 900. Not only that, they'll match your Accent color on your Start screen.

Check out the blue bumper and green bumper here. Thanks, erzhik, for the tip

Ecolife Hydro Side Case - Review

Ecolife has a new case out for the HD7/HD7S. The Ecolife Hydro Side Case utilizes the same recyled material that Ecolife cases have become known for but also adds rubber edging.

The Hydro Side Case is a welcome addition to the WPCentral Store line-up and to see how well it matches with the HD7 (as well as the Samsung Focus), ease on past the break.

Krusell Gaia Mobile Pouch - Review

Not a fan of belt cases or shell cases for your Windows Phone but need some protection when you're carrying your phone around in a backpack, purse or briefcase? Krusell might have an solution worth considering. The Krusell Gaia Mobile Pouch is being offered over at the WPCentral Accessory Store that will offer your Windows Phone a considerable amount of protection while your phone bounces around in your backpack.

Krusell offers a wide variety of belt cases that are quality made. The Gaia follows that level of quality nicely but how well does it handle the day to day grind? It's being offered for the HTC Surround and to see how well the Krusell Gaia performed, follow the break.

For my money, Body Glove makes some of the best cell phone cases on the market. I’ve owned Body Glove cases for a number of the phones I’ve had over the years, and I’ve always been pleased with the products that they put out. When I got the opportunity to review Body Glove’s Soft Shell Case for the Samsung Focus, I jumped at the chance.

Get the complete review of the Body Glove Soft Shell Case after the break.

Pros:
Rubber case improves grip and softens impact when dropped
Cons:
Hardware buttons being covered can be weird

One downside to Microsoft’s business model of licensing the Windows Phone 7 OS to device manufacturers is that you don’t get the quantity of accessories that a device like the iPhone does. Fortunately, the Samsung Focus is starting to get some love in the accessory department, though some of our favorite case-makers are a little slow to get on the bandwagon (looking at you Otter Box).

Body Glove makes some of the best cell phone cases that I’ve ever used. Their Snap-On case for the Focus is a perfect example of what they are capable of. For the full breakdown of what Body Glove’s Snap-On case offers, keep reading.

Pros:
Belt clip with kick-stand
Cons:
Relatively expensive, charging port door is hard to get at.

Review: Samsung Hartmann Luxury Leather Case

While Samsung has built a reputation for quality electronics, they also offer some decent cases for your Windows Phones. The Hartmann Luxury Leather Case is a quality built, uniquely designed case for the Samsung Jack. It will also accommodate the Sprint Snap and Verizon Ozone.

What sets the Hartmann case apart from others is that lack of a case flap. It's more of a horizontal pouch than case. I have reservations about how secure the Samsung Jack would ride in the case.

Ease on past the break to see how well the Samsung Hartmann Luxury Leather Case measured up.

One of the first accessories that I purchase for any smart phone that I’ve ever owned is a case to protect my new investment. I’ve mentioned before that choosing a case for your phone is very similar to the process of choosing the phone itself. A large part of the decision is based on your lifestyle and how you use your device.

OtterBox makes some of the most rugged cell phone cases on the market, though they sometimes sacrifice in the portability/usability department. The OtterBox Commuter Series case makes a reasonable compromise between protection and usability.

Pros:
Tough Case. Nice Fit.
Cons:
Power button hard to access

Hard shell cases have their advantages but when you carry a Windows Phone with a slide-out keyboard, such as the Touch Pro 2 or Tilt 2, the choices can be slim to none. Smartphone Experts offers their Protective Case that might just do the trick if you're a fan of hard shell cases.

The cases are offered in pink, smoke or clear. The sleek cases aren't for everyone and to see if the Protective Case is for you, follow the break.

Pros:
Doesn't interfere with the phone's functions. Slim fit.
Cons:
Snap tabs can be tricky.

Choosing a phone case is similar to choosing a smartphone. As different devices gain more and more features, it becomes a matter of preference and personality as much as it is technology and features. The same is true for phone cases.

Seidio’s Spring Clip Holsters are a product line that I’ve used with a couple of different devices. While the personality of a holster might seem a little utilitarian for some; the quick access that you have to your device is hard to beat.

For the full review, hit the jump.

Pros:
Solid build quality, ease of use
Cons:
Pricey
