AT&T's Nokia Windows Phones announcements to come, Elop says

A half-dozen Android phones (literally, six Android phones) and the announcement of the HTC Titan II dominated the AT&T Developer Summit this morning at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. But Nokia CEO Stephen Elop promised that his company has phones on the way, too, and we'll see them announced at its press event this afternoon.

The Lumia 900 is all be assured, and hopefully Elop's got something else up his sleeve, too.

Wild speculation post: Sony Ericsson with a Windows Phone next week at CES

Look, we're not going to beat around the bush here, this post is total wild rumor-mongering, but SE asked us to guess so we are. Sony Ericsson (Netherlands) has put up a Tweet teasing a big announcement next week, presumably at CES:

"We're getting ready for some very interesting news next week...what do you think it could be?"

Normally we'd pass this off as "just another Android announcement" and it could very well be. However and perhaps it is just coincidence but we seem to have caught a theme of tiles throughout the above picture which was posted in conjunction with the aforementioned statement.

Could this mean that SE is finally on board with Windows Phone? If you recall, SE was announced as a key-launch partner for Windows Phone back in early 2010 and even had a working prototype (see above) but it was canceled at the last minute with the company turning towards Android. Back in May of this year, SE went on record as saying that they were "leaving the door open" for Windows Phone if it should start to take off. Finally, Sony has the option to port over the Sony PlayStation Suite, something they mentioned back in January, 2011.

So has that moment arrived or are we just looking too much into this?

Nokia announces CES press event--new phones on the horizon for the US?

Nokia has just sent out invites for their press event next month at CES in Las Vegas. While word is mum on what they plan to show off in the 45 minute event, rumors have been swirling for some time that an AT&T (and maybe Verizon) device announcement could be on the agenda. Such a device (or devices?) could be the rumored Nokia 900 "Ace"--a 4.3" screen device akin to the Lumia 800--destined for AT&T and featuring LTE. Other possibilities include an LTE-enabled Lumia 800, which may lack the punch of a 900-esque device but we think would still be a large seller here.

Verizon is also rumored to be picking up a Nokia device or two, presumably because it would feature LTE on board, satisfying their demands.

Either way, this announcement can only be good news for Windows Phone and Nokia, both of which are vying for the public attention. Landing on AT&T and/or Verizon would be a huge boost in numbers and visibility for both companies, in addition to giving customers what they really want, a high-end "classy" Windows Phone that can compete with the iPhone and Android. It also seems to us that Nokia has really put into high gear getting these devices to the US market, especially with the launch of the T-Mobile Lumia 710 and their media campaign dubbed "Rolling Thunder".

Good news for our readers is we'll be front and center at CES for this press event and others, so we'll have your coverage that you deserve.
