Deal Alert

If you find yourself wanting to snag a Surface RT for the upcoming school year you should check out the following deal. It’s bonkers. The most basic Surface RT goes for $499, but if you read on you can get it for three hundred dollars less at an insane price of $199.

Ah, the Nokia Lumia 820 (see our review). A device so overlooked, I forgot I even had one (seriously, I just found one in my living room last week). It’s a shame really, as the device has a solid heft to it, gorgeous 800x480 4.3” display, a great 8MP camera and is just an outstanding device (save for its measly 8GB internal storage, which can be expanded with a microSD card).

So if you’re looking for a deal, the unlocked, non-carrier version can be found for a fairly good price of just $301 from the site SaleTab.com (and yes, they ship worldwide). We have no experience from buying a device from them, but they seem on the up and up and $300 for one a top performing Windows Phone 8 device is nothing to ignore.

Although you can still find the Lumia 521 for $129.95 at other shops, like your local Walmart (if it’s available) or on occasion a Microsoft Store (if you live near one), HSN.com is still selling the phone at what seems to be a great pace—plus it’s actually in stock.

The low-cost phone, which we reviewed here, runs normally for $149.95 at the popular online shop but perhaps for the holiday (Flag Day today, Father’s Day on Sunday), they’ve dropped it to an even more enticing $130. Mind you, that’s the no-contract, no strings attached price for the T-Mobile locked handset.

The gaming and tech world-at-large has made a stink about how the Xbox One is moving to a more PC like approach. Specifically Steam has been cited as a model that the new Xbox One is moving towards. Of course Steam has been cut some slack because of how often they have deals on games. Well, it looks like Microsoft is even getting ready to follow that practice because right now you can download Fable III for free onto your Xbox 360.

The last time we saw the Nokia Lumia 920 on sale at Walmart was back when it first went on sale for $49. The phone has been out for over half a year now, but it’s still one of the best Windows Phone devices you can get. Deal after the break!

Yesterday we mentioned the Microsoft Surface RT being on sale at Staples for $399. Just in case you don't have a Staples near you, it might be worth a trip to your local Best Buy.

We were tipped by Windows Phone Central reader Austin that he showed the sale priced pictured above and Best Buy matched the $399 price for the 32GB Surface RT. No guarantees but it's worth trying to save a few bucks through the marvels of price matching.

Thanks, Austin, for the tip!

Yesterday, we were moments away from posting a story about how the normally $499 priced 32GB Surface RT was reduced by $100 at Staples, including online purchases. Unfortunately as we were going to press, Staples changed the price back to $499, which is still reflected on their website. Curses!

But wait...

Sure, the Nokia Lumia 810 will go down as one of the fastest “blink and you’ll miss it” devices on T-Mobile, but that doesn’t it’s not worth having—maybe even for a backup. Luckily, Groupon, that bastion for smartphone fire sales, has a special going for the next 4 days for the device, completely unlocked.

Featuring GSM (850/900/1800/1900) and HSDPA (850/1700/1900/2100), users on T-Mobile and even AT&T can get in on the action. Sure, there’s no 4G LTE but as a world phone? Not a bad deal.

Mother always said life was like a box of chocolates. If you shop around you’ll find older, seasonal selections for a cheaper price. Giving you some extra money for the rest of the date. Or something like that. Same applies for smartphones, if you shop around you’ll get some sweet deals for a phone that isn’t old – the Nokia Lumia 928 on Verizon.

If you've been on the fence looking for a deal on a Windows 8 tablet, Dell may have just what you're looking for. The price for the Dell XPS 10 Windows 8 RT tablet has been slashed from $449.99 to $299.99.

The 10.1" tablet comes with a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 32GB of memory storage, 2MP front facing camera and a 5MP rear facing camera. You can upgrade the memory to 64GB (add $50) and add a keyboard dock (now only $100) when you customize your purchase. However, Dell is offering the XPS 10 bundled with the keyboard dock for $349. Bump the memory on the bundle to 64GB and you're at $399 which is still a heck of a deal.

We aren't sure how long this deal will last but you can find all the details on the Dell XPS 10 here at the Dell website.

Thanks, everyone, for the tips!

You’ve heard us go on before about Beem Plus, the dedicated Digitally Imported music streaming client and its new brother, Beem for SKY.FM. The apps are polished, well designed and deliver top quality music to your Windows Phone. Indeed, behind Pandora, Beem Plus is our most used music app (set it on Trance and hop on an elliptical for 40 minutes…it’s a good time).

Both apps usually fetch for a minuscule and well-worth-it $0.99 but the developer behind them, Den Delimarsky, is feeling generous as he’s dropped the price down to $0. And remember folks, once you “buy” an app for free, it’s yours forever.

Back a few months ago, I posted my thoughts on the super thin, awesomely built Aspire S7 Ultrabook. My version featured an Intel i5 CPU, 128GB SSD and a magnificent 1080P touchscreen, all stuffed in a gorgeous metal body. It’s thinner and better than my MacBook Air and frankly, I love it.

Since the time of that posting, I’ve been using the Aspire S7 as my daily driver (I do 95% of my work on it) and I have to say it’s been a joy to use. In fact, Nokia’s Chris Weber and Marco Argenti both use and adore the device too (it’s like a small club thing when we see each other).

We mentioned Microsoft's new Red Stripe Deal promotion earlier this month. It's not a special on Jamaican Beer but rather weekly discounts on Windows Phone apps and games. Every week Microsoft will highlight certain apps at a discounted price and you can pick them out of a crowd by the red stripe that surrounds their icon.

This week's deals includes the Xbox Live game Tiki Towers, the independent game Doodle Devil and the photography app Pictures Lab. All three Windows Phone apps have had their prices discounted from $2.99 to $.99.
