Now that Mango is so close you can taste it, we're starting to see the big guns land in the Marketplace. One of those is the official eBay app, as it just got bumped from 1.12 to 1.13. More interestingly, it's listed as a second app instead of an update to your existing version. Now worries, we have the new link below.

The app has had a UI change with the main start screen showing more info on a single page and smaller icons. But the big Mango features are:

  • Pin searches or individual auctions to your Start screen
  • Fast app resume
  • Live barcode scanner

That last one is kind of neat. Now that devs have the camera API, they can make live scanners for barcodes (instead of taking a photo and analyzing). The feature is self explanatory: you scan the item and it searches eBay for the best price. Of course you'll need decent lighting but it worked like a charm for us.

Finally, the last feature is a shopping assistant called eBay Explorer (beta). Using the Metro tiles, it allows you to drill down items in eBay based on your responses e.g. category, gender, price, occasions, etc. It works pretty well and should help us men who need last minute gifts for like everyone. Amirite, guys? [@J45PER lets us know that Explorer ssems to be US-only at this time]

Pick up the new eBay app in the Marketplace. Thanks, @ogracia, for the tip!

Microsoft finally looks to be hitting their stride. This new web-commercial for developers shows off the elegance, simplicity and drives home the Metro interface. We really like the look of this, even if it's for devs and not necessarily consumers. Still, we could see Microsoft editing this or redoing some parts for TV and they really should--it's a good start to show off their new UI. After all, it's going to be everywhere soon.

Oh and check out the eBay Live Tile at 0:36

Remember that rare Toshiba TG01 we covered last week? Someone had it up for a private sale and evidently it didn't sell very well as it's now up on eBay for your bidding.

Starting bid is 110 Euro (or about $157). Now remember, camera no-worky and we can't guarantee that this will get updated to "Mango" anytime soon (though it is plausible that someone can hack it). This may be your only chance to own such a collector item, but are you really that geeky? From the auction description:

  • This is the auction for the TG01 with Windows Phone 7
  • The device is in perfect working conditions with a stable post RTM Windows Phone 7 ROM.
  • Camera does not work in this ROM.
  • Device is shipped only with battery, without any accessories.
  • For more photos and video check the following link:
  • http://photobucket.com/tg01wp7 (updated link)
  • For shipping costs to Europe or overseas/rest of world please send a me a message before bidding.
  • If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Good luck, if any of you go for it.

Buy.com's eBay store is offering up a sweet deal on a XBox Live Messenger Starter Pack until August 17, or while quantities last.  The package, which will only run you a cool $42.99, includes a 1 Year Xbox Live Gold subscription, 400 XBL Points, a chatpad and a plug-in headset (reg price = $67).  We're not normally one to sling products for other companies, but we know a good deal when we see one.  Considering a year of XBL Gold will normally run you $59.99 alone, you can't miss.  Click on the source link to get there.

Although some of us were able to see that eBay app shown off in NYC last week, most of you were stuck with static images. Well, here's the app in all its glory in an official video by eBay and Microsoft.

Want to see the awesome eBay app for Windows Phone 7 in action? Just watch after the break. It's worth it once you see the effort and design that went into making it. Oh and for the record, it really is that fast over 3G--that's no trickery.

Ebay has announced the availability of it's first Windows Phone 7 application. The Ebay App will allow you to bid, buy and check Ebay buying and selling activity from your Windows Phone 7. The app supports push notification to provide real-time alerts.

Other features include:

  • Scroll through the panorama to quickly engage in Daily Deals, popular searches, my eBay activity – bids, items won, selling or watching, messages – and reminders
  • Personalize the shopping experience with saved searches, sharing favorite items with friends and unique background themes
  • Use “Best Offer,” eBay’s fastest growing way to buy, where users negotiate the price of a particular item, with real-time notifications when an offer is received and finalized
  • Quickly pay for items with PayPal in just a few clicks

The Ebay app will be a free application through the Marketplace. It's just one more example on how Windows Phone 7 will keep you in touch. Follow the break for the full press release and another screen shot.

For those of you who have bidding fever, you've got good luck.

According to Forbes, Microsoft asked the online flea-market eBay to make a mobile application for Windows Phone 7. Being the good company they are, eBay of course accepted the request and should have the app ready to go when the OS finally launches this Fall.

In addition, eBay is playing around with adding a Half.com application (no word if a WP7 version will appear), barcode scanning, video and other tweaks to make the software even better. Basically they envision that one day you can use your mobile's camera to scan a vehicle VIN, someone's clothes, etc. and find car parts or that guy's shirt you dig so much.

Cool.

You're definitely going to be paying a premium here for a phone you should be able to get in a couple of weeks, but that's the price for being the first on your block with a T-Mobile Touch Pro 2 — and unlocked, at that.

A couple of the highly anticipated phones (or not, depending on which comments you're reading) have made it onto the online auction site a few weeks before the expected official release, and they're fetching a pretty penny. [via tmonews]

The first auction ends at 8 p.m. Eastern on Saturday and bidding, get this, is at $1,049.99 at the time of this writing. The second auction ends July 29 and currently is at a much more respectable $525, though we don't expect it to stay there for long.

So, how badly do you want a T-Mobile Touch Pro 2?

If you just got your tax return back, here's a quick way to blow it — and by blow it we mean buy one of the three phones we officially know will be running Windows Mobile 6.5 later this year.

An unlocked HTC Touch Pro 2 is up for auction on eBay. WMPowerUser spied it when it had a "But it now" price of $899, but it looks like it's been relisted and will now see how high the price will go by 11 p.m. EST March 27.

At the time of this writing, the top bid was $475. But before you throw your bid in the ring, do note that while this is an unlocked GSM phone, it only has the 3G radio bands used outside the U.S. So, no AT&T love for this guy. Otherwise, if everything is as advertised, it should work just fine.

So, how much would you pay to be the first on your block with a Touch Pro 2?

Update: And ... the auction's been called off. Can't say that's too surprising.
