SophieLens Pro is a photo editing app for your Windows Phone 8 device that lets you apply a wide range of filters to your photos.

SophieLens Pro is a fairly straight forward photography app that launches straight to a camera app that previews the selected filter in the view finder. The filter style is noted in the bottom left corner of the view finder and two button controls sit on the right edge of the view finder that controls the flash and changes the filter.

PhotoFunia is a very nice Windows Phone app for editing and customizing your Windows Phone photos. PhotoFunia won't let you crop, adjust color balance or sharpen your photos. Instead it offers over three hundred effects that can be applied to your photos.

From adding a vintage photo filter to slapping your photo on a magazine cover, PhotoFunia offers a tremendous resource for being creative with your photos. And it all happens from the cloud in that the effects are downloaded to your Windows Phone and applied to your images. While this keeps the app on the light side (only 3MB) it does make a WiFi or data connection a must.

PhotoFunia is a great option for applying effects to your photos and dare we say it is a must have app for your Windows Phone photography app library.

We reported exclusively on Tuesday on the upcoming update to Pictureslab to bring it to version 5.0, at the time it was still in beta. Good news today is that the Windows Phone Store has caught up and the latest version is available to all.

The good news doesn’t stop there as the app is of course available for existing users to update to for free but new users can now grab it for the special offer price of only US $0.99. Read on past the break to find out more.

A common complaint with the Nokia Lumia 920 is that of "soft" photos--both in terms of sharpness and colors. While we can argue the merits and reasons for such behavior, did you know you can easily fix them with just a few seconds and barely any effort? The key is to use Nokia's homegrown, free and surprisingly robust photo editor, Creative Studio.

But how does it work and what are the best tips? Read ahead and we'll show you how to make the most of it.

Windows Phone App Review: MagicPhotos

There's not much to the Windows Phone photo editing app MagicPhotos but that's not necessarily a bad thing. MagicPhotos is a simple app that allows you to apply four editing effects to your photos. Going a step further, MagicPhotos allows you to deselect these effects to give your images a unique appearance.

MagicPhotos is a nice photo editing app for your Windows Phone if your looking for a small collection of straight forward editing tools or just looking to expand your editing app library.  It's not as feature rich as... say... Thumba, but it does a nice job of things.

Fhotoroom is a popular photo editing app for your Windows Phone that not only allows you to edit your images but also has a social networking aspect to it.  Editing includes basic tools such as cropping, exposure edits, and rotating the image as well as filters and frames.  Edited images can be saved to your SkyDrive account, Windows Phone as well as shared on the Fhotoroom Photo Sharing Network (free registration required).  The network will let you show off your images with other Fhotoroom users, get and give feedback and message other members.

Fhotoroom was recently updated to version 2.0 which brings a major overhaul to the photography app.  The update not only brings new features to the editor, social network and in-house camera but also brings a new layout and user interface to the app.  You also have the routine bug fixes and performance tweaks.

Windows Phone App Review: Memento

Memento is a photography app for your Windows Phone that lets you apply one of nine film effects to your photographs. Memento has a simple, straight forward interface, some cool filters but does have room for improvement.

The main menu offers options to take a picture to edit, load a picture to edit, view your gallery (images already tweaked) and tap into Memento's settings. Settings are limited to turning on/off the app's Facebook integration.

If you opt to take a picture, the app will launch your Windows Phone camera app and return once you accept the new image. If you choose to apply the effects to an existing photo, just pick the image out from your Pictures Hub and you're in business.

We reviewed CleverPhoto way back in October 2011 and gave it quite favorable feedback:

“The layout is clean. The editing tools are enough to do a decent job at cleaning up your photos or give them an artistic feel. And as someone who has processed what feels like a bazillion photos over the years, the editing history tile is a very nice touch. It's easy to forget if you've adjusted contrast or what filter was applied and the history tile leaves no room for doubt.”

The photo editing app always stood out amongst the herd. The app fetched for $1.49 with a free trial but it is now marked as free in the Marketplace with the price drop just occurring. In addition, the app hit version 2.0 at the end of July making this a double win if you had not already purchased it...

Windows Phone App Review - Smartest Eraser

Smartest Eraser is a photo editing app for your Windows Phone that helps clean up unwanted objects that snuck into your photos. Such as tree limbs, ex-boyfriends, bratty little brothers, a foot and any other item that just doesn't belong. The concept of removing unwanted objects (or subjects) from your pictures can be appealing and a useful tool.

But how smart is the Smartest Eraser?  We took it out for a test drive and while the app has potential, there is still a bit of room for improvement.

A few weeks ago we reported on Aviary releasing their SDK for Windows Phone, allowing developers with little effort to plug in the company’s photo editing suite into any application out there. Rowi was one of the first to do this, allowing its users to quickly do sophisticated photo edits without ever leaving the popular Twitter app.

Today, Aviary has released Photo Genius, a standalone version of those tools for all Windows Phone users. The app is a “demonstration” one meaning it’s meant to show off what Aviary can do but for you all that means is you get an awesome, full featured photo editing program for your phone.

The app behaves like the “Auto Fix” feature built into Windows Phone. It analyzes a selected photo and then recommends a sweeping set of changes which you can enable with a quick “checkmark”. You can then compare the before and after images with a simple toggle, allowing you to see if you like the modifications.

If you don’t like the alterations or want to do more, you can hit the “Edit” button and load up Aviary’s full set of photo manipulation tools. Such tools include controls for brightness, contrast, sharpness, cropping, rotation, red-eye fix, filters, stickers and more—it really has it all.

Once you’re done you can just hit the “Save” icon and that’s it and you have your fully edited photo.

Overall, Aviary Photo Genius is a great little app. It’s “smart” and has a ton of features on board, allowing you to really control every aspect of how your photo looks. It is a big sluggish on loading photos initially (in the gallery) but once you’re up, it works just like any other app.

Pick up Aviary Photo Genius for all Windows Phones here in the Marketplace for free. And read more on the app release here on Aviary's blog.

Windows Phone App Review: Fantasia Painter

The other day we shared a list of the best photography apps for your Windows Phone. We knew that there were other worthy photo apps out there and one such app that was mentioned prominently in the comments was Fantasia Painter.

On the one hand the Fantasia Painter is a photo editing app. On the other hand Fantasia Painter is a creative suite to give your photos a serious splash of color.  On top of all that, if painting is more your cup of tea Fantasia Painter can handle that as well.

It's really hard to tell how many editing tools Fantasia Painter has (the Marketplace description says 45+ but that feels a little low) but it ranks amongst the top photography Windows Phone apps on the amount of control you have over editing your pictures.  Fantasia Painter is an impressive photography app for your Windows Phone and it can be a little intimidating.  Once you get the hang of the controls and all the editing possibilities, Fantasia Painter can really make your photos shine.

LG has released another app for their Windows Phone OEM store collection titled Photo Exhibition. As the name suggests, the app is a photo editing tool that enables the user to create humorous effects, add filters / frames, and more. Clipart and effects can be applied to any photo that is imported from the library.

Photo Exhibition also sports Facebook sharing, so friends will be able to see your handy work. Of course, should you not have an LG Windows Phone, there are a handful of decent photo manipulation apps available for all, including Pictures Lab.

Windows Phone App Review: Pictomaphone

There are several, several photo editing apps available for your Windows Phone. Some cover the basics while others provide you with everything but the kitchen sink to edit your photos with. Pictomaphone falls somewhere in between the two extremes.

Pictomaphone has about twenty adjustments, filters and editing tools to fine tune your photos. You can edit photos captured by your Windows Phone camera or already on file in your Pictures Hub. Interface is fairly simple and Pictomaphone can help bring your photo quality up a notch.

Windows Phone App Review: Fhotoroom

There are plenty of photo apps for our Windows Phones but few will has as many features as Fhotoroom. The application not only lets you edit and share photos via Twitter, Flickr, Facebook and Tumblr but it also has its own camera app.

Fhotoroom offers a wide variety of modifications, adjustments, filters and effects for your photos.  At first launch, you are prompted to sign up for a free membership to the Fhotoroom website. Once signed up you can establish your user profile, send other members messages and enter your Twitter, Flickr, Facebook or Tumblr account information for easy sharing of photos.  You can use Fhotoroom without signing up for a membership but in signing up you get access to the Fhotoroom network where you can message other members and view their photos.

Fhotoroom is appealing not only for it's vast amount of editing tools but also for the relative ease of use.  Navigation around the app does take a little getting used to but not to the point it detracts from the app.

Pictures Lab has been updated to version 4.0, two months after hitting 3.0 with the Mango refresh. Much like Thumba Photo Editor, Pictures Lab is a must have for those who wish to edit photos on-the-fly. Features including Pictures Hub integration and direct camera access make the app extremely useful with the introduction of more APIs in Windows Phone 7.5. Now, in 4.0 we have two new festive effects that can be applied to photos and a handful of translations for foreign markets. A full run through:

  • Added the "add another effect" functionality which allows to stack effects and borders on top of each other and therefore combine multiple effects.
  • Added two Christmas borders and one for New Year
  • Added Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Dutch, Portuguese, Russian translations.
  • Fixed issues with Bulge and Tilt Shift effect.
  • Other minor bug fixes and many little tweaks.

You can download Pictures Lab from the Marketplace for $0.99 (£0.79).

For those going with HTC as their WP7 choice, you'll be of course getting their allotment of special software, including Weather, Stocks and the focus here, Photo Enhancer.

The app itself looks really nice in this video hands on by 1800PocketPC, with a wide-assortment of filters to choose form, smooth UI and just an overall great experience. While not a complete photo-editing package e.g. cropping, sharpening, etc. don't seem to be there, it looks like a great addon.

And for those not going with HTC, you can always check out Picture Lab which looks even more impressive. See the full video hands on after the break!
