emulator skins

Geert van der Cruijsen has developed a Windows Phone 8 emulator skin switcher, enabling developers who are using tools available to create apps and games to manipulate the look of the emulator itself. A number of smartphones are supported, as well as the different screen resolutions.

We previously looked at the emulator skin switcher for Windows Phone 7, which Cruijsen was also behind. Receiving a number of downloads and requests for a Windows Phone 8 version, we're now here reporting on a new release to cover the latest version of the mobile platform.

Geert van der Cruijsen, a Windows Phone development enthusiast, has created a skin switcher which can be used to easily alternate between community created themes when developing apps for the platform. The software is beta, so all feedback is welcome (comments on his blog or via Twitter). The download package includes not only the skin switcher, but the following skins too:

  • Default skin (Microsoft)
  • Nokia Lumia 710 Black Blue (Geert van der Cruijsen)
  • Nokia Lumia 710 Black Yellow
  • Nokia Lumia 710 White Black
  • Nokia Lumia 710 White Blue
  • Nokia Lumia 710 White Pink (Georg Kalus)
  • Nokia Lumia 800 Black (Pedro Lamas)
  • Nokia Lumia 800 Blue (Georg Kalus)
  • Nokia Lumia 800 Pink (Geert van der Cruijsen)

Head on over to Geert's blog to download his tool, and hopefully your time spent developing feature-rich apps will be more aesthetically pleasing.
