exclusive

If you're not already aware of the online Windows Phone store, which is available over on the official Windows Phone website (www.windowsphone.com), it's useful way of checking out Windows Phone content when at a computer. As well as browsing apps from developers, consumers are also able to look through and install OEM apps that are listed in the Nokia Collection, Samsung Zone and HTC Apps.

Prior to this feature it was only possible to check out the latest content from each manufacturer on a device.

It was reported a few weeks ago that Nokia was preparing a firmware revision for the Lumia 920 (and other Windows Phone 8 Lumias) that would continue to bring Nokia’s vision of how a Windows Phone should be to fruition.

That update is now being referred to as PR2.0 and we have an exclusive quick glimpse of some of those new features for you.

Considered by many to be the Windows Phone 8 device to get, the Lumia 920 has unfortunately been locked to a single network here in the UK. That’s all about to end and to celebrate the guys at Three UK have released their first video to introduce the device to their customers.

Since the launch of Windows Phone 8, Three has been carrying only the HTC 8X. To expand that range Three is going to add not only the 920 but the eagerly awaited Lumia 620 too.

There has been much speculation and angst about the availability of the Lumia 920 here in the UK due to EE having an exclusivity deal on the hero Windows Phone 8 device.

Looks like the folks over at Clove are about to step in and provide the Lumia 920 in glossy white for your SIM-free and unlocked buying pleasure. That is, if you have £520.00 laying around to invest in one..

File this under surprising but those on T-Mobile US have a little treat waiting for them in the Windows Phone Store: an ad-free version of Words with Friends.

Not only are they getting the game seemingly earlier than anyone else (it’s available right now) this version has no ads within it unlike the version we recently played with on our Lumia 920.

Nokia has confirmed the available dates and exclusivity arrangements for the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 today.

We have already had a list of those in the UK set to stock the devices but now we know a little bit more including how long the EE exclusive will last for the UK. Let’s clear this up.

AT&T is gearing up to launch the Nokia Lumia 920 very soon—in fact we expect an announcement on pricing and availability sometime on Sunday.

Word is that AT&T reps are also in the midst of training with the device, becoming familiar with its main features and selling points. Part of that training is being done with these videos that demonstrate the highlights of the Lumia 920.

The T-Mobile-exclusive Lumia 810

With the announcement today by T-Mobile of the Lumia 810, the question that follows next regards differences between it and the Lumia 820.

At first glance you may think that these are the same phones just with a name change. But they are not.

While the “guts” and main features are overlapping, the physical design of the 810 is more “blocky” than the Lumia 820. In addition, the sizes of the devices are slightly different as well, with the T-Mobile 810 being a tad larger, but weighing 15 grams less.

With yesterday’s announcement of the Nokia Lumia 820 and 920 coming to AT&T, the word that caught our eye and yours was “exclusive”. Even Rogers is now in on the "exclusive" action. The term was applied to both Lumia devices, although as pointed out in our forums, the 820’s exclusiveness to AT&T was dropped from Nokia’s site later in the day.

The tech’o’sphere has responded quite negatively to the news if only because the Lumia 920 has built up such demand that many people are cheering for its success. That success though depends on how many people can actually buy it, which in turn translates into carrier availability. If the Lumia 920 is only available on 1 of 4 major US carriers, well that’s certainly less people than had it been on two or three carriers. A pretty obvious impact.

The good news is Nokia is finally getting some details out about its highly touted Lumia 920, specifically carrier deals. The bad news is they are couched in exclusivity deals (we’ll have more on that shortly).

Such is the case with Rogers in Canada who have announced that the Lumia 920 will be coming to the carrier with 4G LTE in November.

Will only AT&T have the 920 in the US?

In today’s press release from AT&T making the Nokia Lumia 820 and 920 official, the word “exclusive” unfortunately was tossed in to the mix raising some red flags.

When addressing the Lumia 920 specifically it was used in this context:

“Exclusive to our customers and featuring unique innovations…the Lumia 920 will be one of the hottest phones for the holidays,”

To us that sounds like AT&T has managed to make a deal with Nokia to be the only carrier offering the flagship phone. While the Lumia 820 has been expected to go to T-Mobile and even Verizon, the 920 was always a toss up. Many people have been hoping big Red would finally get a top of the line Nokia Windows Phone. In fact, an earlier report from PhoneArena strongly suggested that to be the case.

Now you see it, now you may not.

Viber has been pulled from the Marketplace, according to multiple sources which include reports from Windows Phone Central readers. The app, which is currently a Nokia exclusive, was released over the weekend but is no longer available to a number of consumers. We're still able to access the listing and download the Nokia exclusive Viber from the UK. So, has it vanished? If so, why?

The popular VOIP service Viber has been a long time in the making for Windows Phone. The fist app was merely a preview beta that only had direct messaging but no voice capability. Then a few weeks ago we got word that the ‘HD’ version with full VOIP capability was headed to Nokia Lumia phones.

During that time though, a lot has happened including a very long delay, much to the surprise of the developer who had anticipated a quick releases. Due to Microsoft’s quirky (and backlogged) app submission process, Viber got lost in the shuffle and had to have some pushing before the Store could give birth.

StyleSaint - exclusively for Nokia Lumia Windows Phones

While we’re still waiting on Viber HD from Nokia to go live today (more on that later, when it’s available), another app has come forth for those with fashion on their minds.

StyleSaint (www.stylesaint.com) can now be downloaded for Nokia Lumia phones, allowing you to browse the latest fashions, clip them, make your own ‘stylebook’ and then share it with the world.

It looks like Nokia has hit the publish button on yet-another-exclusive app, this time it’s the Bloomberg Hub, bringing the latest in financial news and videos right to your phone.

Nokia gave a few screenshots of the app in question along with details of the features that it contains.  Some of those are..

Reading news and articles on the go is a huge benefit to having a Windows Phone. These days there are a bewildering array of website specific apps, RSS readers, read it later clients and even tailored magazine apps to help sift through and read it all.

When mobile, being able to quickly check and access posts, articles and features from all your favourite websites can be tricky. One of the popular ways to pull all this content into one stream is by using the Google Reader service. NewsSpot is a slick Google Reader client for our Windows Phone that is due to receive an update towards the end of September that will bring some nice new features to the app. We had a chance to check out the latest beta of this popular client.

While there's the Weather Channel app available on the Windows Phone Marketplace, Nokia has an exclusive version of the Weather Channel app as well. The Nokia Weather Channel app was recently updated to version 2.0 with a few new features added to the mix.  We've touch on these new features earlier but now we want to take a look at the full app.

Some may scratch their head at Nokia's choice for an exclusive weather app but the update may change your mind on the Weather Channel app.
