If you're looking for a simple game for your Windows Phone 8 device to pass short bits of time with, give Touchdown Run a try.

The game is about as simple as it can be but challenging enough to make it interesting. With Touchdown Run, you play the role of a football player fielding a kickoff or breaking away from the line of scrimmage heading to the end zone.

You have to navigate your player through a sea of defensive players, without getting touched, and make it safely to the end zone.

Test your Gridiron knowledge with NFL Trivia

With the Super Bowl just days away, many will begin touting their vast knowledge of the NFL. NFL Trivia is a Windows Phone app that will test that knowledge and may give you a leg up on the competition.

The trivia game is laid out about as simply as you can get with two modes of play, Simple and Trivia. Simple Mode presents you with ten questions and awards you points for each correct answer. Trivia Mode also offers you points for each correct answer but has an endless string of questions.

NFL Trivia may not have many bells and whistles but it isn't a bad test of your NFL knowledge.

The ESPN Fantasy Football 2012 app has vanished from the Windows Phone Store and those who have been using the app have seen their teams vanish as well. The app itself has disappeared from the Nokia Collection as well but if you follow this link, you can still find the app's listing.

Unfortunately, the Nokia exclusive is noted (for both Windows Phone 7 and 8) as not being available for your device from your Nokia Lumia Windows Phone.  From the online store, the app is simply listed as "not available online" likely due to the Nokia exclusivity.

Fantasy 12/13 is now available for Windows Phone. The app, which has recently been published on the Marketplace, enables football fans to keep up-to-date with their fantasy football team from the official Premier League website.

If watching matches and playing video games aren't enough to quench the thirst for football action, taking your fantasy team on the go while you venture out into the world is surely going to be a handy distraction. It's a highly popular platform that requires a strategic mindset.

Are you ready, for some Football? Well are ya?

An update to Football Pro '12 (formerly known as NFL Pro '12) has been updated over at the Windows Phone Marketplace in preparation for the upcoming season. While the Marketplace title stills reflects the Football Pro '12 name, the version 2.0 update takes the app to Football Pro '13.

Confused? So were we but apparently it takes a while before the Marketplace will reflect the name change for the app. What you're looking for is version 2.0. Once you run the Football Pro, you'll see things setup for the 2013 season within the app itself.  Even though the title is dated '12.

Currently for ESPN football/soccer fans there is the official ESPNSoccernet app that was launched on July 2nd. The app is an extension of Soccernet.com, which ESPN owns but the branding was always confusing. The Windows Phone app has received mediocre reviews with some people noting it still felt like a beta.

Now, ESPN seems to be rebranding their efforts by re-launching Soccernet.com as ESPNFC.com. Going to the former site will now redirect you to the new address and site redesign. Not only that, the new site will feature many more features than the previous Socceernet.com offering and it should keep fellow footballers happy...

ESPN Fantasy Football app in the works

If you're into ESPN's fantasy football, you will be pleased to hear that the ESPN Fantasy Football app is headed to the Windows Phone Marketplace.

Not much is known on the details but the app will feature fantasy team management, live scoring, news from the NFL, tweets from fantasy experts, and messaging boards.

This will be the first year ESPN's Fantasy Football app will be offered for Windows Phone and expected release is mid-August. Once we spot the app in the Marketplace, we'll let you know.

Another day, another exclusive app from Nokia available to all Lumia owners. Today, the Finnish company released Goal.com 2012 Finals. The app is a must have for those who watch soccer...errr...football as it will deliver "breaking news, exclusive interviews, video clips, team profiles, player profiles and 'Road to Euro 2012' which looks back at how each nation qualified for the tournament".

The app has multiple Live Tile support as you can pin your team to your Start screen with updates reflected on the tile (under Settings). It can even remind you when a match is about to start which seems extremely convenient to us.

Overall, the app is smooth and nicely laid out and while we not huge football fans here in the States we can see many of our European friends being thrilled with another great Nokia release.

Pick up Goal.com 2012 Finals for your Nokia Lumia device here in the Marketplace.

Key features of ScoreMobile FC include:

  • Free customizable push alerts (including goals and key incidents)
  • Daily video “vodcasts” featuring special guests
  • Sync tournament fixtures to your calendar
  • Up-to-the-second live scores
  • Live blogs or text commentary for EVERY game
  • Comprehensive list of match times, tables and statistics
  • The latest Euro 2012 news, previews and post-match analysis in video format
  • “Bet Now” feature, allowing UK-based users to place real-time bets via licensed betting and gaming provider William Hill

The football leagues covered includes UEFA Champions League, English Premier League, Spanish La Liga, Italian Serie A, Argentine Primera Division, French Ligue 1 and many more. You can even get coverage on the 2012 Olympic soccer matches.

ScoreMobile FC is laid out very similar to the original ScoreMobile with pages covering your teams, your comps, access to all leagues, a listing of top matches. With Euro 2012 and the Olympics right around the corner, ScoreMobile FC is a good way to keep up with all your soccer...err... football scores from your Windows Phone.

Update: While the initial release on ScoreMobile FC did not make the distinction, we have since learned that push notifications are not currently supported for the Windows Phone version of this app.

ScoreMobile FC is a free, ad supported app that you can find here at the Windows Phone Marketplace.

Last week Gerbil Physics went up on the Marketplace a bit early, and it’s happened again this week. Somebody at the big MS is on the ball! Anyway, you can now buy this week’s Xbox Live release, Pro Evolution Soccer 2012.

What’s new in PES 2012? Well, you can’t tell from the official description, which sounds just about identical. Here it is:

  • Unrivalled realism: Experience incredible gameplay and focus on tactics, goals and winning trophies while competing against the most advanced team and player AI on the market. Striking animations such as referee cut-scenes or goal celebrations and technical moves (diving header, bicycle kick, and more) will make you feel the beauty of the game.
  • Exclusive UEFA Club Competitions: PES 2012 includes many of the best European club teams in the officially licensed UEFA Champions League™ and UEFA Europa League™ modes.
  • Online connectivity: Prove your skills and unlock the various Xbox LIVE achievements, compare yourself to your friends, make it to the top of the leaderboards and become the world’s greatest PES player.
  • Outstanding Accessibility for Beginners and Experts: The uniquely designed true flow™ control system provides instant access for players of all levels by utilising the accelerometer and AI-supported touch controls. More advanced players are presented with unlimited freedom of play by being able to master classic console-style controls with virtual pad and buttons.
  • Stunning graphics: Detailed stadiums, pitches and weather effects provide the perfect visual environment for exciting matches
  • Avatar awards: These aren't listed in the official description, but we have it on good authority that they're coming in the near future.

Hmm... One of those bullet points doesn't add up. Having played both PES 2011 on Windows Phone and PES 2012 on Xbox 360, I can tell you without a doubt that this series is not accessible for beginners. It’s an extremely realistic and challenging depiction of soccer, which is great for people who’ve been playing it for years. Me, I just couldn’t get overcome the learning curve. You might also consider that the PES 2011 was delisted from the Marketplace without warning, which will likely happen to 2012 once next year’s version gets closer to release. Hopefully Microsoft starts allowing users to back up or redownload delisted games between now and then, but I’m not holding my breath.

Enough commentary! Football/soccer fans who want to play their sport on Windows Phone can’t do any better than Pro Evolution Soccer, and that’s what matters. PES 2012 costs $4.99 and there is a free trial. Get it here on the Marketplace.

Thanks to Natres for the tip!

Nokia has already proven to consumers that they've still got the magic to produce some incredible marketing efforts, like Deadmau5 in London, the Haunted House in Berlin, and flash mobs in India. Now we have Copenhagen in Denmark witnessing a football stadium (PARKEN) lay host to the Finnish manufacturer for a Lumia launch presentation.

As one can see in the video above, this wasn't just any presentation. Throw in fireworks, Master Chief (from the Halo video game series), a Ferrari, F.C. København, some music, and you have a spectacular event. The clip montage is only a few minutes long but we're sure it was more than mesmerising in person. Wonder if Nokia aims to continue to smash marketing expenditure records?
