Fortunately, activity on our community forum doesn't appear to show signs of decrease, even up and around the festive holiday. So what's been happening on our forum, while the news has been taking a short break?

It has been an eventful week with Nokia's recent Deadmau5 partnership to bring more Lumia love to London, UK. We managed to turn up and boogie with other attendees while seeing how the Lumia 920 coped with low lighting, high volume levels and bags of movement. As well as a number of news stories appearing on the radar, our Windows Phone forum has been busy as always.

Welcome to a special edition of From the Forums. Why so special, you ask? Because it's the first FTF since our huge forum upgrade that was pushed out recently. We've raised the bar with our website upgrade and redesign, so it was only right that our community forums received the same treatment. So, what's been happening on the top Windows Phone forums?

It's a relaxing Friday that marks the beginning of the weekend and we've got a From the Forums to lighten up the mood and kick-start the closure of the workdays. While we've not published exciting headlines in the past few days, the front page has been busy with more pre-orders showing up for new Nokia Windows Phone hardware, and more.

The Windows Phone Central community has witnessed continued activity as well, so let's jump in.

We mentioned yesterday that we're opening a theme area on the site for those using the WP Hacker program to make custom Start screens/tiles. In turn, we're hoping to see some creations come out that would wow-us a bit and luckily someone took us up on it.

Forum member Saljen has posted up five themes so far, including the one you see above aka 'Glass'. The others are just as fancy, specifically Wood, Steel, Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2. Not bad, not bad at all! In fact, we're gonna try and load up Glass here in a few minutes.

Oh and Saljen gets bonus points for creating a custom WPCentral App tile. Anyways, feel free to add your creations for others right here.

Board Express updated to version 2.8

Board Express, the companion app for forum users (works with our Windows Phone forums too) which uses the TapaTalk standard, has been updated to version 2.8 and brings more functionality to the table. For a full run through on what's new:

  • Thanks-feature implemented. You can now see how many thanks a user got for his post, and who did thank him (press on the thanks-link). And you can thank yourself by press and hold on a post and then click on "Thank!"
  • Better handling of page loading
  • Fix for loading CRM-pages in vBulletin
  • vBulletin: Option to open a thread in the internet explorer
  • vBulletin: Option to send a thread as link by email
  • When entering a thread, it only gets marked as read when the last page has been opened. There was a bug while browsing in the thread-view. Now the thread gets marked as read as soon as the last paged has been browsed to.

You can download Board Express from the Marketplace for $0.99, and a free version can also be picked up.

Thanks Bearach for the changelog submission!

We don't want to get your hopes up too much but it's starting to look like Verizon is gearing up to really, really (for reals) launch the HTC Trophy.

Earlier today we saw a hidden listing at Best Buy for the Trophy and now Verizon Wireless has removed the previous, generic "smartphone/pda" section on their help forum with a...wait for it... a cleaned up Windows Phone area.

As Morpheus said "I do not see coincidence, I see providence. I see purpose. I believe it our fate to be here. It is our destiny.". Or perhaps we're just being over geeky and dramatic. Nah....

Source: Verizon Wireless; big thanks to Jay for the tip!

The buzz is starting to grow among developers as we continue to wait for the official launch of Windows Marketplace for Mobile, and with it the launch of Windows Mobile 6.5.

The Microsoft Developers Network has opened developers forums, and the chatter is growing. Threads so far include "Do you have to use Microsoft's Development Tools?", "Wishlist for Windows Mobile Marketplace", "When can we expect a WM 6.5 SDK?", and a slew of others.

Most end users probably won't get too much out of it, but it's an interesting look at what goes on behind the scenes.
