Germany

One of our faithful readers has spotted a couple of ads for the Jil Sander edition LG E906 in Germany's Die ZeitDie Zeit is a highly-respected weekly newspaper in Germany, which also includes a lifestyle magazine called ZEITmagazin.  Typically, purveyors of chic, like Armani and Prada, grace the pages of ZEITmagazin, but this time its the Jil Sander E906 that is being flaunted in a full-page ad.  The ad looks like a still from the video that appeared on the Jil Sander website back in October, and informs readers that they can pick one up at Media Markt (described to us as Germany's version of Best Buy).

The Jil Sander E906 is essentially a modified LG Optimus 7, sporting a 3.8-inch WVGA display and a 5-megapixel camera capable of shooting 720p. It comes bundled with a Jil Sander app, which allows users to browse clothing collections and more.  The specs are nothing outstanding, but the handset itself, complete with hardware buttons, is as suave as the ads.

Assuming LG Germany isn't fibbing here, users of the Optimus 7 can expect sometime in the (near) future a small firmware update to enable internet sharing aka tethering. We know the phone's chipset supports the function but since it was a late-added feature to Mango, most OEMs have had only a little time to play with the drivers. Looks like LG though is prepped to enable this for its users, which will involve updating the firmware in a quick and painless fashion.

Lets hope it comes this year.

As with many carriers jumping on the "I'm ready!" train, O2 DE has said on the interwebs that they are indeed ready to push the Mango update to customers. They're now awaiting Microsoft's green light. While Deutsche Telekom is able to provide an actual handset roadmap and status per manufacturer, O2 has unfortunately not provided any further detail as to when.

Some good news if you are in Germany and are on O2 and or Telekom. Actually, O2 seems to be getting the better deal.

In a tweet asked by Chris (@Fizi_zubi) to the carrier, O2 responded with (translated) "Mango is planned for mid September, so it won't be too long. Specific dates are not yet known.". Of course, mid-September is what we've been hearing about for awhile now, so it's a little unclear if they meant generally or specifically for O2--then again, O2 UK seems like they're just about ready to release Mango. But it's at least on their radar (and hey, they even know what it is!).

Next up is Telekom, which also knows about Mango. They're suggesting mid-October, which is not nearly as nice as O2's statement. However, it's a bit unclear if O2 and Telekom are talking about software updates to existing phones or new hardware.

To that end, no specific dates are given, but it's looking promising for the next few weeks for something to happen on the Mango front.

Germany has got its hands on the HTC 7 Pro, which has flooded stores as an unlocked SIM-free device and on carrier O2 as contract. HTC Germany reports that the smartphone will be tagged at €29 ($39) on a new two year contract at €22.50 ($30) per month, or €599 ($796) on its own.

What's more, it's coming to the UK too on February 10th and you can now pre-order the phone from Clove. Price is heading north of £442.80 including VAT. Ouch.

The phone packs a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, with a 3.6-inch WVGA touchscreen offering coupled with a 5-megapixel camera, also found on other HTC WP7 handsets. Physical keyboard admirers fear not as the HTC 7 Pro comes equipped with a slide-out keyboard. Overall a fantastic purchase for any German or Brit new to WP7.

And finishing up those leaks on the HD7 which came fast and furious a few weeks ago is that final one, filling in all the remaining questions. Well most questions.

The latest is that this premier phone will be launching on Germany's O2 network in just 2 weeks (hence all the details). It still features that 1GHz CPU, 8GB of storage, etc. all reported a few weeks ago, so nothing new there. Shoot, even the price is still what was reported in the past ($730-770 off contract; $104-109 with one).

Really the only news is the mention of Dolby Mobile Sound, which while untested sure sounds like a good thing as we're all for improved audio on these HD monsters.

Finally there'a a pretty vanilla video of it "in action" (after the break) though we're sure it's nothing you couldn't have imagined yourselves. We suppose the only real question is will we see this Stateside on T-Moible? We caught a rumor (unverified) that AT&T's "exclusivity" is for only 2 weeks, so take that as you will.

Head over to Engadget for a few more shots. [Thanks, Eric, for the tip]

For our German brethren, you lucky ducks get to update your Touch Pro 2 to Windows Mobile 6.5 with HTCs new ROM (version:1.86.407.5) today.  HTC doesn't list too much except for some typical generics:

1.  HTC phones featuring Windows 6.5 are designed to handle your daily life, with only one consideration: You.

2.  You can customize with programs, ringtones, TouchFLO 3D options, and more.

3.  Connect with the people you care about most using Windows Live, Facebook and other chat clients available for download.

4.  Backing up with Microsoft My Phone is as easy as typing in a username and password and selecting what you want to back up.  Everything else is automatic.  You can even let it run in the background while you surf the net, chat with friends, or have it just resting in your pocket while you relax on the couch.

5.   All this and increased convenience with a one stop shop for applications available for free and for download in the brand new Marketplace.

Still, if you're not using a custom ROM already and want the official version, well here ya go.  Get it here.

Thanks @msh441
