A penny for your thoughts? How about for a T-Mobile Lumia 710? We've seen some nice deals on the latest Windows Phone to hit T-Mobile's shelves. Wal-Mart is offering the Lumia 710 for free on-line, T-Mobile is selling the 710 for $49.99 and now Costco is offering the 4G Windows Phone for a penny.  They are only listing the black model with no indication if the white model will become available at a later date.

Pricing is after the customary two year contractual discounts and a qualifying data plan.   Not too shabby of a price for a very nice, entry level Windows Phone.

The Nokia Lumia 710 has only been available for a few days and we are seeing some really good Wal-mart deals on the newest T-Mobile Windows Phone. You can find it free from Wal-mart.com (with qualifying data plan and two year contract) and one of our readers in Hawaii spotted the Lumia 710 in stores for $18.88. Either offer is a really good deal on a very good Windows Phone.

Now if we can just get Wal-mart (and others) to get the sales displays right.  The local Wal-mart in Hawaii lists the Nokia Lumia 4G as running Windows Mobile 7.5 and that the phone syncs with MS Outlook. Luckily the company's online advertisement displays the correct information and even refers to Windows Phone 7.5 as Mango.

I guess you could call that progress...

If you needed anymore proof that South Africa isn't just being tossed aside when it comes to the Nokia Lumia/future devices, then we have great news for you. We have just received word from an anonymous tipster that Nokia is holding an event in Midrand near the end of this month. Although the invite doesn't outright say that this is a launch party or unveiling event, it's probably quite safe to assume that it is.

Besides the obvious positives of Nokia launching their Windows Phone 7 devices in South Africa, there is another aspect that you may not have considered. Blackberry and Android may be all the rage over here at the moment but before that Nokia was a really big player in SA.

I remember a time when almost every person I knew either had a Nokia or was attempting to get one. What this means is that when they start selling their new phones people will not be buying Windows Phone, they will be buying a Nokia, because they trust the brand. So this skips the step of people avoiding WP7 because of their feelings on Windows Mobile, and allows them to experience the amazing everyday with no bias.

Many people are of the opinion that Nokia is Microsoft's trump card. The game changer. And it really is looking more and more likely that Nokia is going to give Windows Phone 7 the momentum it needs to get further than the hands of tech bloggers and developers.

We recently covered Nokias plans to take over the world, and now we have report of the Lumia 800 and 710 both launching in South Africa in Q1 2012 and just after that respectively. Yep, you heard that right. The same country that can't manage to tell the different between Windows 7 and Windows Phone 7 (Vodacom's terrible advertising campaign for the Omnia 7 - not the one below). So why is this a big deal? Well, because up until now South Africa has only had three devices; the Samsung Omnia 7, the HTC Trophy and the HTC Mozart.

As a resident of South Africa I had actually almost given up hope for WP7 here when just recently one of the service providers sold the last of their Omnia 7 stock:

Now I would take this with a slight pinch of salt as the actual source is not mentioned and upon reaching out to a local Microsoft Developer Evangelist I received the usual "we cannot confirm or deny this". If it is legit then presumably the fine details are still being ironed out, and hopefully South Africa will appear on Nokias domination map soon.

The Nokia Lumia 710 is expected to hit T-Mobile's shelve on January 11, 2012 and will run just under $50 after contractual discounts . It will be the first Nokia Windows Phone for the U.S. Market and we've gotten our hands on one.

First impressions? The 710 is a very nice, compact Windows Phone. Feels solid in the hand and the screen looks great.

The Lumia 710 is slightly smaller than T-Mobile's other Windows Phone, the HTC Radar, separated by only tenths of an inch. The Lumia 710 has a 3.7" screen while the Radar sports a 3.8" screen.  The Lumia 710 is also very similar in size to the AT&T Samsung Focus Flash with the Flash being slightly smaller and lighter in size.

The Lumia 710 is fitted with 512mb RAM, 8GB of storage, a 5mp camera, and 1300mah battery.  As with other second generation Windows Phones, the Lumia 710 comes across as a well built, solid phone but due to smaller storage space, the lack of a front facing camera and other specs it may not appeal to everyone.

We'll take the Lumia 710 out for a test drive over the next few days and get a full review up on the site shortly thereafter. If there's anything in particular you'd like us to look at, speak up in the comments.

For those looking to pick up the T-Mobile Lumia 710, you may want to head to Wirefly. The site is now taking pre-orders for the phone, available in white or black and they're offering it for $0 on new contracts. That's not too shabby of a deal if you ask us.

The Lumia 710 comes with a 1.4GHz CPU, 3.7" ClearBlack screen, 5MP camera and 8GB of on board storage. While not a flagship phone by most standards, it is a very nice mid-level device and makes a perfect give for a friend or family member who's not as into phones as you. No word on when Wirefly will ship it, but you should have it by the 11th.

With about two weeks away from becoming reality, the T-Mobile Nokia Lumia 710 is making an appearance over at Ebay. The 3.7" screened Windows Phone is the all black model is listed as "brand new unopened".

We're expecting the Lumia 710 to run $49.99 after contractual discounts. At last check, after 28 bids, the current bid on the "out of contract" model is $565. You've got little over five days left on the bidding or you can wait just a tad longer and snatch one up directly from T-Mobile.
