E3 2013: Microsoft Xbox Meet and Greet

Today is the first “official” day of E3, but yesterday Microsoft, Sony, Ubisoft and EA had their big press conferences where they announced games for this year and next. It also happened to be the same day that Xbox’s Major Nelson and company put on an Xbox meet up at the local Microsoft Store in the Westfield Century City mall.

I decided to check it out while Dan was busy in New York City watching the world premiere of the Man of Steel. Pictures of the Xbox meet up after the break!

Microsoft opened up its new store in St. Louis on Friday 7th, continuing to make its presence known to the competition with a rather loud bang. Sporting a performance by artist Ne-Yo, the opening was a great day for attendees. Kevin Turner, Chief Operating Officer at Microsoft also gave away a total of $1 million in software grants to four local non-profits. It's the attack of Good Guy Microsoft again.

There are many, many perks to having a Microsoft Store near you. You get great customer service, crapware free devices, and some good deals from time to time. A relatively unknown benefit is the ability to create custom vinyl stickers for a variety of products and accessories. You can spruce up your Xbox 360 controller and now your Surface tablet.

Lightning strikes twice, history repeats itself, and Microsoft will be giving out reservation cards for the Surface Pro like they did with the Surface RT. Back in October, if you visited a physical Microsoft Store or those pop-up holiday kiosks you could get a card guaranteeing you a Surface the day they went on sale. Microsoft is now doing the same with the Intel-based Surface for when it becomes available on February 9th.

To celebrate Cyber Monday, Microsoft has the Acer Iconia W500 Windows 8 tablet listed online for just $399 - that's $100 off the regular price. What's different about this Windows tablet compared to the Surface RT? It's slightly cheaper and sports a full version of Windows 8 with its x86 processor. Lost in the fuss over the launch of Windows 8 news we overlooked this the other day. Angry Birds in space is now available in the Microsoft Store.

Can you be an “app store” without at least on version of Angry Birds being present? If that’s the yard stick then many will breathe a sigh of relief to see the game pop into the store right from launch day!

To celebrate the launch of the Surface RT tablets, Microsoft is giving away a twelve month Xbox Music Pass ($99 value) to the first 100 people in line at their local stores.

There is also the hint of additional Xbox prizes to be given away at the launch events.

Just follow this link to find a store near you and plan on arriving early. Curious is anyone will be camping out for the Surface RT.  If so, good luck!

Thanks, stmav, for the tip!

Looks like if you live near a Microsoft Store or even a pop-up holiday kiosk you can stop by and get a reservation card good for one Surface RT come October 26th.

The info comes via our forums where member jdevenberg was given a pass from a Microsoft pop-up Store employee at Washington Square in Beaverton, Oregon. The pass simply reads that a Surface has been reserved and all the shopper has to do is bring the pass at 12pm on October 26th. This sounds like a good deal for those of you who are wanting to go and get one in the Store that very day instead of pre-ordering online.
