Nokia has launched its Music+ premium service in Austria, Germany and Switzerland, further expanding the coverage available to Windows Phone consumers. Available for just €3.99 a month, those who own Lumia Windows Phones will be able to unlock more advanced features when tuning into playlists in the Nokia Music app.

The manufacturer is clearly looking to provide an alternative service for those who can't access (or don't wish to use) Xbox Music. Numerous markets have been added to the pool (most recent being the United Arab Emirates and Singapore) of support and we can only imagine that more will be included as the year progresses.

If there’s one sore spot with a certain segment of users it was how the release of Windows Phone 8 lacked FM radio support—something which had been around since the Zune player days. No reason was ever stated, though it’s a safe guess that it was something Microsoft simply did not have time to complete by October’s release schedule.

Now, according to sources at the Verge, that situation will change with the expected GDR2 update coming out later this summer. That addition will allow users, when headphones are plugged in, to use their Windows Phone as an FM radio—an important source of news and entertainment for many in emerging markets who can’t afford streaming data plans.

Remember when it was teased that The Sims Medieval will be available on Windows Phone for Nokia hardware? It appears the time has come as the app is now presently listed on the store. So what's The Sims Medieval all about? If you're not familiar with the video game series, players are tasked with entering a virtual world and controlling "sims" as they go about their daily lives. It's an incredibly popular brand on mutiple platforms.

We're already aware of O2 UK preparing to launch the Lumia 720. Being the premium Windows Phone partner, the mobile operator has also managed to bag the red variant of the Nokia device, according to its website. It's expected to arrive in O2 stores (and online) next month. As well as the red version, the black Lumia 720 will also be stocked.

Nokia has made an intellectual property rights declaration to the IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) with respect to Google's VP8 data format and decoding guide, listing 64 granted patents and 22 pending patent applications. VP8 is Google's dream to create a royalty-free codec, but it's reportedly not open standard and Nokia is having none of it (to see why, check quote below). The company is already seeking injunctions against HTC in Germany over two VP8 patents.

Should you be looking forward to getting your hands on either the Lumia 720 and Lumia 520, and happen to reside in Australia you may wish to check out Allphones. The retailer has listed both Windows Phones on the website with an option to register interest for alerts and updates as to when the smartphones will be available for purchase. We speculate that it cannot be more than a few weeks away.

The blog attracts thousands of visitors on a daily basis, who enjoy reading articles of her fictitious alter ego sporting a glamorous lifestyle. As well as being photographed wielding the Lumia 920 (a yellow one, we might add), Löwengrip has also blogged about the platform itself (about how it helps to keep her life in check).

Nokia isn't quite bringing sexy back, but we'll take the Apps Madness competition. The company is launching the contest to establish the best app, voted by the community. An article has been published on the official blog detailing the entries, all 32 of them. The apps have been selected and divided into four categories: games, social, news & entertainment and utilities & productivity.

As one of the emerging markets, and a terribly big one for that matter, China just can't be overlooked on Nokia's strategic roadmap, especially the entry and middle segments of the market. Now the company is busy preparing for the release of both Lumia 520 and Lumia 720 in China.

The entry-level Lumia 520 will be available "by the end of March", which translates into some time close to NOW. The retail price is about CNY 1,299 (US$ 210), which would be cheaper than the HKD 1,788 (US$ 231) standard in Hong Kong.

Nokia Lumia 920

Just a couple of days after seeing a price drop on the HTC 8X 16GB on AT&T to $99, along comes a deal at the Microsoft Store with a heck of a bargain on the Nokia Lumia 920. You can get Nokia's flagship Windows Phone 8 handset for free now, with a new line of service with AT&T.

Nokia Lumia 920 CC-1043, a shell of a case

One of the more challenging aspects of owning the Nokia Lumia 920 is finding a case for the Windows Phone. The challenge being that the 920 works rather nicely in the buff.

One option we've been patiently waiting for is the Nokia CC-1043 case for the Lumia 920. The case is very similar to the Nokia Gel Cases for the Lumia 900 but the CC-1043 cases haven't been as readily available. We finally got our hands on one of the CC-1043 cases (which really needs a better name) and took it out for a spin.

Should you not be aware of the deal shown in the photo above, the Lumia 620 is available at The Carphone Warehouse from just £14 a month. As well as the Windows Phone 8 device, the retailer is also bundling a free Windows 8 upgrade, which will provide some incentive to choose the smartphone over rivalling Android devices.

We could well be looking too much into something, but it's fun nonetheless. Nokia has published the above photo onto its Facebook account, which appears to be teasing solar charging for smartphones. The caption reads "Sun, sun, sun, here we come!" and we're not the first to question what exactly Nokia is teasing here.

Summer's well on the way (unless you live in England) and this would be a perfect opportunity to reveal solar technology on Windows Phones. Could Nokia simply be looking forward to picnics and the beach? Possibly, but then we already know the good weather will come.

Nokia has managed to get the Lumia 520 Windows Phone through certification in Brazil. The smartphone was unveiled at Mobile World Congress and has impressed many with its unique design and incredible price tag. We're looking at 139 euros for the Windows Phone, but vNext expects the local price in Brazil to be more like R$ 599 ($300).

Just as many gamers have shouted over the headset in excitement, "BOOM! HEAD SHOT!" Nokia has won a patent injunction against HTC in Germany. Yes, we're aware that many of you have grown tired of such news being covered, but it's a Windows Phone OEM being attacked by another, so it's certainly worth noting exactly what's going on.

It's reported HTC has since disabled the patented power-saving technique in question on affected hardware. This change will lead to poorer battery life, further hurting the Taiwanese product line which incorporates Qualcomm baseband chips. The company is fighting back and it's believed a deal will be struck between the two parties at some point.

If you’re a developer on Windows Phone, there’s probably a good chance you’ve heard of Richard Kerris, the Global Head of Developer Relations at Nokia. He’s the guy that oversaw some of those great outreach programs to help woo devs to Windows Phones and if it’s one thing we can agree on, Nokia has been largely successful here.

In the wise words of the Internet: "OH HAI DER LUMIA 928!" A handful of leaked images have been spotted over on Androidsym, which has published a number of shots that were taken with the Nokia Windows Phone. Exif information for each photo (excluding the above) reportedly shows the Lumia 928, and follows up on the leaked image from a Nokia employee we looked at a few days ago.

Nokia has been able to build important relations with developers to bring apps to the Windows Phone platform, and Lumia hardware in particular. But just how important are said partnerships to the handset manufacturer and Microsoft's mobile platform? The company has Bryan Biniak, VP, Global Partner and App Development, who takes care of apps that are developed for both Asha and Windows Phone.
