Today the SharePoint Team at Microsoft announced that a standalone SkyDrive Pro client is available to download for Windows machines. The Pro edition of SkyDrive allows users to easily save, sync, share, and collaborate on documents in SharePoint. It is worth noting that the new client, is only compatible with SharePoint 2013 servers and Office 365.

SkyDrive Pro was pre-bundled (although not functional for all users until now) with Office 365 Pro Plus, Office 365 Small Business Premium, and Office Professional Plus 2013. If you have any of the aforementioned Office suites installed on your PC, there is no need to download SkyDrive Pro separately.

Today there has been a report that Microsoft and Apple are currently at a stalemate with a supposed app update to SkyDrive on iOS. Apple has allegedly blocked the update as they are now demanding a 30% cut of revenue from SkyDrive subscriptions.

It is not possible to purchase more storage from within the SkyDrive app, if the report from TheNextWeb is true this could mean bad news for iOS versions of the Office Apps.

The new version of Office was unveiled to the world on July16th, and has proven to be quite the upgrade when comparing it to the current version. With its slick “modern UI,” aka “Metro styling,” the price for Office has changed as well.

There are two ways you can purchase Office - buy the software at full price or with an annual subscription. With so many services being subscription based, Spotify, Rdio, Netflix, Adobe Creative Cloud and Zune pass to name but a few examples, why wouldn’t Microsoft adapt as well? These are modern times and consumers have learned that it is cheaper to pay annually for what they want.

Office 365 demo with WP7 [Video]

In the above video we have Kirk Koenigsbauer, Corporate Vice President of Microsoft Corporation, who demonstrates how Office 365 on the PC, in web browsers and on the Windows Phone can integrate together. Kirk uses OneNote as the example and shows how more than one user can collaborate in real-time even if they're currently on a different platform.

Simply capturing a photo, attaching it and synchronizing that note will reflect the changes on other systems that currently have that note open. This will of course work with adding (or removing) text and more. OneNote makes use of the screen space available. We can see on the PC screen that the user is able to view all the content at first glance. Since the phone has a smaller screen, OneNote for WP7 optimizes the content in the note and brings all the sections together in one column.

Title says it all. We got a more detailed look at Office on the new version of Windows Phone. We knew about Skydrive expansion, better support, Office 365 integration and now we see it in action.

What's also nice, though not seen, is if you need an app e.g. Adobe for PDFs, the OS can now recognize file types and match them against supporting apps in the Marketplace, making the process of finding the right app to "handle' the task much more simple.
