Adobe Photoshop Express now available for Windows 8 and RT

Adobe has released Photoshop Express for Windows 8 and Windows RT. If you've been around digital photography for any amount of time, Adobe Photoshop should be a familiar term. The Photoshop editing software has dominated the digital photography market for years.

It's nice to see a Photoshop editor land for Windows RT and 8, especially for the tablet devices. Photoshop Express could be the answer to a lot of photographers who are looking for a mobile solution or an entry level editor for Windows 8/RT.

SuperPhoto Free is a photo editing app for your Windows Phone 8 or 7.x device that boasts to have hundreds of awesome effects.

Admittedly, SuperPhoto Free does have a healthy selection of filters, effects and other photo editing effects. The app's secret? None of the effects are stored on your Windows Phone. Instead, the effects are downloaded to your Windows Phone when selected.

This system not only gives you a large selection of photo editing tools but also keeps the from taking up too much storage space. Minimizing the need for on-board storage is SuperPhoto Free's strength but beyond that, the app is a little cumbersome.

Fhotoroom updated to version 3.0, full camera resolution support in place

Fhotoroom is a popular photo editing app for our Windows Phone 7.x and 8 devices. It's part editor, part photo sharing network and a good choice if you're looking for a mobile photo editor.

Fhotoroom was updated over the weekend to version 3.0 and adds a few user interface and performance updates. The update also bring full resolution support to the Fhotoroom camera app. So now you use all your native megapixels when capturing new photos through Fhotoroom.

Photo Shader is a decent little photo editor for your Windows Phone. The app has a healthy amount of filters and effect to apply to existing photos in your Pictures Hub or new images captured with your Windows Phone camera.

Layout is simple and clean with most filters/effects having setting to fine tune the application. When you first select a photo to edit, cropping tools will appear to let you crop and/or rotate the image. From there, all you need to do is apply your effects and save when done.

Fhotoroom updated, major layout overhaul and new features added

Fhotoroom is a popular photo editing app for your Windows Phone that not only allows you to edit your images but also has a social networking aspect to it. Editing includes basic tools such as cropping, exposure edits, and rotating the image as well as filters and frames. Edited images can be saved to your SkyDrive account, Windows Phone as well as shared on the Fhotoroom Photo Sharing Network (free registration required). The network will let you show off your images with other Fhotoroom users, get and give feedback and message other members.

Fhotoroom was recently updated to version 2.0 which brings a major overhaul to the photography app. The update not only brings new features to the editor, social network and in-house camera but also brings a new layout and user interface to the app. You also have the routine bug fixes and performance tweaks.

Smartest Eraser is a photo editing app for your Windows Phone that helps clean up unwanted objects that snuck into your photos. Such as tree limbs, ex-boyfriends, bratty little brothers, a foot and any other item that just doesn't belong. The concept of removing unwanted objects (or subjects) from your pictures can be appealing and a useful tool.

But how smart is the Smartest Eraser? We took it out for a test drive and while the app has potential, there is still a bit of room for improvement.

Could Instagram come officially to Windows Phone before Android?

Although we have wait on the fate of Metrogram, the unofficial Instagram client for Windows Phone announced this past weekend, FastCompany is citing an unnamed source that Microsoft may have worked out a deal with the developers behind Instagram for an official, certified Windows Phone version. For those not familiar, Instagram is a extremely popular photo sharing app with kitsch filters on iOS. Instagram have acknowledged that they're working on an Android version, but now we're learning that Windows Phone may get it first.

Windows Phone boasts Metro UI which has been positively received by most and is a unique experience available on a mobile platform. This, added with the quick camera functionality and consistent quality across hardware, will ensure that an Instagram app would look (and feel) fantastic. Even though Windows Phone is still picking up steam with market share, Android suffers from fragmentation which could have a negative impact on the user experience.

Instagram would be a worthy addition to the Marketplace, a popular app that many smartphone owners on a competitive platform use, and the software giant is looking to spend to get the apps people want.

There are a handful of photo editor apps for your Windows Phone. They range from the basic to the artistic to the full editing packages. We turn our sites on Photo Editor to see how it measures up against the other options available in the Marketplace.

Photo Editor has a nice selection of editing tools ranging from cropping to filters to adding clip art to your images. The interface is nice and Photo Editor does have Facebook integration to allow you to share your photos.

Thumba Photo Editor gets updated to Mango

The popular photo editor for your Windows Phone, Thumba Photo Editor, was updated overnight to version 3.5.0. It brings a handful of improvements to the table including the fast resume of Mango and it now appears in your Photo Hub/Camera menu under "apps" (more on this in a second). Additional improvements and changes include:

New icon with transparency
New before/after tool
Images can be reloaded by shaking your phone
Histogram display improvements
Manual saturation adjustment added
Gamma configuration added to exposure adjustments
Several bug fixes and performance tweaks

The updated version of Thumba Photo Editor has full integration with the Pictures Hub in that it is listed under the "Apps" menu option. With Windows Phone 7, when you pulled up the three-dot menu while viewing a photo there was the menu option "Extras". "Extras" listed every photo app installed on your phone and you could launch these apps from this menu. With Windows Phone 7.5, the "Extras" menu option has been replaced by the "Apps" option. It too lists photo apps installed on your phone but the developer must include this integration within their app. Not every photo app will be listed.

In just tinkering with the updated version of Thumba Photo Editor, it ran smoothly and the interface felt cleaner. I like the before/after button and the fast resume feature. The fast resume brings you back to where you left, which is great feature when your photo editing gets interrupted.

Microsoft brings Photosynth to iOS but not WP7

Photosynth is a fantastic app that allows you combine multiple shots when one capture is simply not enough, perfect when requiring to take a landscape photo beyond the capabilities of the mobile device and engineer some cool panoramas with a 360 degrees effect.

Using the latest computer vision technology, the Photosynth app makes capturing panoramas fun and engaging, while creating sharp, high-resolution results. With the app, you can process, view, and store your panoramas directly on your device. Then, share them in a variety of ways, including to Facebook as images or as interactive panoramas (hosted for free) on Photosynth.net

It has been readily available for download on PC, but has now made the leap to the iPhone line of devices - no sign of a WP7 offering though. While slightly confusing as to why Microsoft would offer their app to iPhone users before their own platform, it's understandable to an extent with iOS and OS X (arguably) being home to designers, photographers etc.

The app will enable iPhone users to upload their panoramas to Bing Maps, which will then become publicly viewable on Microsoft's Photosynth "map app", further enhancing a continuous viewable image of the world. While Windows Phone cameras are improving, so are the photography apps that let you edit the pictures you take, such as Thumba Photo Editor. Thumba is a basic photo editing application for your Windows Phone that offers a respectable amount of processing tools.

Thumba Photo Editor is a very stable application with no bugs, glitches or crashes experienced while testing the application out. The tools available are very similar to a desktop editor only lacking a print button for your images. Thumba gives you the ability to turn a so-so picture into a nice picture.
