pre-order

The Lumia 920 is listed for pre-order on the Noovi Store website in Germany. What's more is that the rare grey version is listed alongside cyan, providing superb choice for German consumers who would rather head down the unique route with these uncommon colours.

We have been tipped off that Lumia 822 orders have been pegged as being shipped today. One of our readers tried to pre-order with no luck, but then logged into their account and upgraded through available channels. A confirmation email was sent stating that the order would ship today.

This could be very good news for Verizon customers indeed, we have yet to hear from anyone that has received a Lumia 822 so we’re not going to get too excited right now. We’d certainly like to hear from any of you if you’re seeing similar order confirmations. If you have one already be sure to let us know too.

This morning AT&T threw open the preorders for the Nokia Lumia 920, which is commanding a super-low $99 price tag on contract in addition to a limited offering of a free wireless charging pad.

What may be of interest to some is the fact that the off-contract, no commitment price (but yes, still locked to AT&T) is just $450. That’s quite fascinating as most had expected the no-commitment price to be north of $599. That is what Best Buy (and eBay) had as the off-contract price and considering the technology on board the Lumia 920 it made sense. Even when some of us applied a 25% off coupon on the eBy preorder our price was knocked down to $450, which at the time seemed like a steal. (Best Buy is price matching AT&T, so keep that in mind if you ordered from them).

Good news for those on AT&T eagerly awaiting the Nokia Lumia 920 or HTC 8X as eBay/Best Buy have the devices listed with pricing and “expected availability” date. And yes, you can now order them too.

The new date is November 9th, which fits in the idea that AT&T is really scrambling to get these phones out the door. Originally we heard early November and then later November 4th. News came forward recently that it had been pushed back and seeing as AT&T did not reveal any information at Monday’s event, it made sense that this was in “motion”.

Of course since AT&T has still not officially announced pricing and availability, all of this is subject to change.

Update: The Lumia 920 is still hidden from the Best Buy system but if you use this link, you can still find it and evidently pre-order it. Thanks, anujtwp, for the link

Just this morning we woke up gleefully to find that Best Buy was finally taking pre-orders for AT&T’s Lumia 920 and the HTC 8X. Even better was what seemed like a fair price for the Lumia 920: $150 on contract, coming in below the normal $200 mark for high-end smartphones.

But alas, something is awry and the Lumia 920 has gone missing from Best Buy’s site. Even more odd is how the HTC 8X is still listed for pre-order. Glitch? Error? Sold out? We really have no idea and hopefully tomorrow either we’ll wake to find it fixed or we’ll ask Nokia if they know what’s going on with the whole deal.

In addition, some people who have pre-ordered the Lumia 920 mentioned to us a ship date of October 23 or 24th. While we don’t have any knowledge if that is accurate, we’re leaning on this being an error from Best Buy. We’re not expecting that phone to ship until November 4th—but hey, we like surprises just like anyone else.

Thanks for everyone who sent this in!

Negri Electronics, a retailer in the US, has opened up Lumia 920 pre-orders with a price tag of $698.59. The unlocked Windows Phone, available at the online store in yellow, will be available to consumers on supported networks. Unfortunately no shipping or release date estimations have been provided.

Expansys UK is has listed the HTC 8X and 8S as available for pre-order. The HTC 8X is listed for £399.99 and the HTC 8S is listed for £239.99.  It is our understanding that shipping dates for the 8X will be November 2, 2012 and the 8S will ship shortly thereafter on November 15, 2012.

In looking at other Expansys sites, both HTC Windows Phone 8 devices appear to be available for pre-order across the board.  On Expansys U.S. the HTC 8X (unlocked) will run $629.99 and the HTC 8S (unlocked) will run $349.99.

The Lumia 920 has gradually become available for pre-order through retailers and the like, but we've not yet been able to confirm globally what carriers will be stocking Windows Phones, except for those who have made the information publicly available. As for the number of pre-orders that have taken place, well ... that's another piece of information that we don't possess.

Fortunately, NokiaPowerUser has noticed some positive signs on both the French Phone House and Italian NStore websites. According to Phone House's top 50 mobile phones chart the Lumia 920 is the champion, and at NStore the Windows Phone is no longer available (sold out).

Did you pre-order a Surface RT today?

With the day winding down, impulse buys having already taken place and even Microsoft stock even getting low (more on that in a bit), we want to know…did you pre-order the Surface RT?

(Personally speaking, I’m waiting to buy on in a Microsoft Store because of my lucky geographical location. But if there weren’t one near me, I certainly would have pre-ordered. One caveat though: I’m not too thrilled with the “just black” option for the 64GB, something for which I hope to avoid in-store. You?)

"You're the best...around...Nothing's gonna ever keep you down"

When it comes to Windows 8, people fall into two camps: they love it or hate it. Personally, we love it and maybe we’ll share our thoughts more on it later as we’ve been running RTM for the last two weeks.  We’ll also say those who don’t like Windows 8 have been more vocal—they always are.

So it’s perhaps a good sign to see Windows 8 pre-orders on Amazon.com rocking the #1 spot. Sure, we can’t imagine the software section on Amazon is highly volatile as compared to other products likes games or even phones, but it’s a good sign that people are interested in the next generation OS from Redmond. Or to put it another way, we’d rather see Windows 8 sitting at #1 than not as some detractors could spin that towards the negative.

With the official release of Windows 8 only weeks away we have already seen online listings for Windows 8 computers. Now we are seeing Windows 8 computers on store shelves.

The Best Buy in St. Cloud, MN has several laptops and desktops from HP on display running Windows 8. Based on the reports, the computers are running demo versions of Windows 8 to give you a feel for things. While you can check these new computers out in the store, you can't take them with you just yet. While the computers are in stock, Best Buy is only taking pre-orders for the HP Windows 8 computers.

Sweden & Belgium get early orders online

Either online stores in Europe are taking advantage of the preorder craze or they know something we don’t about device availability, specifically for Nokia’s new Windows Phone 8 Lumia line.

Such is the case with online Swedish shop Phone House who has the Lumia 920 now listed on their site with a going price of 5799kr with tax and chargers. We’re told by reader elversson that Phone House is normally more pricey than other online retailers so if you have sticker shock, that may be the case (we’re also not sure if prices have been finalized or these are 'guestimates').

Pre-order now, get it at the same time as everyone else

Preorders are kind of like the teaser preview in technology—they cost virtually nothing to produce but get a lot of people talking. Such is the case with Expansys now offering pre-orders for the ATIV S from Samsung.

The page is up both in Italy and even the US although there is no price listed nor ETA for a shipping date—in other words, they’re doing it for the links and headlines because let's be honest, this won't sellout early like the iPhone.

The Carphone Warehouse and Phones4U, two popular UK mobile phone retailers, have both joined Clove UK in listing the Lumia 900 (our review) on their websites for pre-order and interest registration. The handset is launching in the states on AT&T's LTE network, so it's good to see the international version (HSPA+) hit the British shores.

The Carphone Warehouse expects to release the handset in May, and has an interest registration page setup for alerts to be sent out when pre-ordering is available. Phones4U on the other hand has already gone live with pre-orders for both the black and white version of the Lumia 900.

What's more is the retailer is offering a free Nokia Play 360 Wireless speaker (worth £120) with a Lumia 900 pre-order. Not a bad deal. As well as the speaker, the white version is exclusive to the retailer according to the order page, and they expect to have the Windows Phone ready for delivery by April 27th.

Although it's probably too early to tell how the AT&T Lumia 900 is doing (and the brunt of its popularity will undoubtedly come months from now), it's worthy to note that on Amazon Wireless, if you sort by best-sellers you get some interesting results.

For instance, by sorting under AT&T best-sellers, we can see the Lumia 900 (Black) is currently in the number #1 spot with the Cyan version holding on to number #3 (the venerable and popular Galaxy SII is in #2). That's not too bad a showing considering we're just talking about pre-orders for the phone and it has yet to get into anyone's hands, let alone reviews for the device.

Sorting without a carrier also yields some positive news with the Lumia 900 Black sitting at #6 and the Lumia 900 Cyan at #8 across all smartphones. The current number #1 position is held by the ridiculously named 'Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX 4G' which goes to show there's no lacking of bad and kitsch taste in the smartphone world.

What is perhaps most interesting, besides those solid rankings for a pre-order phone, is the fact that the Black Lumia is selling more than the Cyan. From general feedback and conversations with AT&T and Nokia, the Cyan version seemed to be the most anticipated. In fact, we're told that advertising would use the Cyan version of Nokia's phone over the Black to its more striking visual appeal.

Finally, while these pre-orders numbers are good news and it certainly reflects the buzz around the Lumia 900, as we mentioned earlier, the real test and interest will be weeks from now after the advertising blitz has kicked in, awareness goes up and the popular culture catches on. That's when we'll see whether Nokia and AT&Ts efforts have finally paid off.

Amazon Wireless began pre-orders on March 30th and were even offering it for a penny on a new contract.

There are reports being circulated on the web that the AT&T Nokia Lumia 900 has sold out of pre-orders. We've received several tips from readers indicating they've received notification that reads along the lines of,

The items in your order are currently out of stock and will be shipped when inventory becomes available. When the items in your order ship, we'll send you an email with the ship tracking number(s).

Before you panic and think that the AT&T warehouse has run out of Lumia 900's remember, the phone is backordered because it hasn't been released yet. As we understand things, because the Lumia 900 hasn't been released yet i.e. stocked on shelves, the system sees the phone as "backordered" or not in stock.  We still are expecting the Lumia 900s to ship within the next few days and for AT&T to have plenty on hand at the retail stores on April 9th (along with the HTC Titan II).

Of course there is always the slight chance that AT&T became so overwhelmed with pre-orders that the supply just isn't there--who knows what the response so far has been to Nokia's latest effort. It's possible, but unless Nokia had a very tight supply we don't really think that has happened yet. Still, we'll keep an eye on this for any further developments.

We've got a discussion going on over in the WPCentral Forums on all this or you can express your thoughts in the comments section.

Thanks, everyone, for tipping us on this!

Although it took some time for AT&T to hit the refresh button on their site, we're happy to report you can now officially pre-order the Nokia Lumia 900 online.

That's right, in theory you won't have to actually talk to a human being to order the latest and greatest from the 'Ma Bell and their Finnish partners. Selling for $449.99 off-contract or $99 with one, the Lumia 900 is a good deal which ever way you purchase. What's more, we're told if you order soon you can get the phone by April 6th, a full two days before the stores will sell 'em to everyone else.

The 4.3" device with an AMOLED screen, 8MP camera (1MP front), 16GB of storage and 4G LTE is available in Cyan and Matte Black for now. For those who want the Glossy White, you'll have to wait till April 22nd and we're told only in-store purchases for that version.

To start your preorder, simply go to AT&T's site here.

Just a little FYI for you folks: On March 30th, AT&T will begin taking pre-orders for the Black and Cyan Nokia Lumia 900. What you may not know is that you face a real good chance of getting that highly anticipated Windows Phone before the official Sunday release on April 8th if you do that pre-order. That's right, they're shipping them before Sunday.

So says AT&T, who told us as much this morning.

However, if you want the joy of buying it in person, some AT&T stores will be open on Sunday allowing you to purchase it that very day. You'll need to check your local AT&T outlet to see if they'll be there to take your business but if they are, you'll have yourself a special Easter gift.

Oh and one more thing, the "glossy-white" Lumia 900 will be available in stores only, starting on the 22nd.

Although China seems to be grabbing all the headlines today for Windows Phone, the move into Latin America is also as important for the fledgling mobile OS.

We've mentioned in the past that Nokia would be bringing their Lumia series to Mexico this Spring and it looks like that schedule is being kept. Users can now pre-order the Lumia 710 and Lumia 800 on Movistar.

The Lumia 710, a budget-orientated smartphone with a 3.7" ClearBlack display and 5MP camera is perfect for those who are new to the smartphone game, while the Lumia 800 offers a more premium experience with its polycarbonate design, 8MP camera and AMOLED display. Both phones look to be competitively priced on Movistar with a $0 purchase for a 24 month contract (although the 800 has a higher-end contract to meet that requirement).

For more information, head to Movistar's page to sign up and learn more. Thanks, Victor H., for the heads up

While we had all hoped the Nokia Lumia 900 Windows Phone to become available today, there is some good news. Rogers Canada is now accepting pre-orders for the Lumia 900.

As an added bonus, as was teased earlier, those who pre-order the 900 are entered for a chance to win a private screening of The Dark Knight Rises and a special edition Dark Knight Lumia 900. Five runners up will have to catch the movie in theaters but will get a special edition Lumia 900 (likely designed just like the Dark Knight Lumia 800).

Pre-order (new customers) costs for the Lumia 900 will run $99.99. Reserve orders (existing customers) appears to be running $159.99.  Unfortunately the only date we could find is the deadline for the movie contest (April 10th).  There was no reference on an expected ship date.

You can find all the details on pre-ordering the Lumia 900 and the Dark Knight contest here at Rogers Canada.

Thanks, Matthieu, for the tip
