Redmond

Frank Shaw, Vice President of Corporate Communications at Microsoft, published an interesting article on the official blog today. The post details how Microsoft has been running what appears to be a sprint with consecutive releases of Windows Phone updates, Windows 8 previews and the desktop OS recently hit RTM. Things are going well at Redmond, which is painting Microsoft in a completely different light to what consumers are used to.

We're in Washington this week for Casual Connect Seattle, one of the country's largest game developer-centric conferences. As you might know, Redmond is only a stone's throw away from Seattle. As such, we threw our own stones over to Microsoft headquarters (also known as the Microsoft campus) for a little visit. The campus consists of over 40 buildings spread across 300 acres - a lot to take in! In the interest of time, we focused on Studio C (home of the Windows Phone game marketing team) and the Visitor Center. Lots of pictures follow the break!

In the Redmond, WA Area? Have two hours to kill? If so, Microsoft User Research is looking for Zune Pass users to participate in a two hour study. The study will take place on Microsoft’s Redmond campus with participants offered a choice of new Microsoft software, hardware or games from a list of our current most popular titles.

Sound interesting? To sign up for the survey just send the following information to uccoord@microsoft.com with “Zune” in the title:

  • Name/Phone Number
  • Job/Company
  • Are you a monthly subscriber to Zune Pass?
  • How frequently do you watch movies online on your computer/console (Hulu, Netflix, Zune, etc.)?
  • How often do you make online purchases with a debit or credit card?

The study is between 3:30-6:30pm. Microsoft hopes to use the feedback and opinions for what they are describing as the next generation of Microsoft services and products.

UPDATE: Microsoft has pushed the date of the survey back and extended the hours.  The new date and time for the Zune Pass Survey is July 8th from 8:00am until 6:30pm PDT.  You still need to be in Redmond to participate but at least now you've got a little time to make the trek.  Thanks Eli for the update!

Microsoft is looking to fill forty positions on their Windows Phone 7 team. The positions include software engineers, public relations managers, and hardware engineers. The positions are based out of Microsoft's Headquarters in Redmond.

The focus of these positions range from working on Xbox Live game integration to leading the design of features built for Windows Phones. The job descriptions seem to re-affirm Microsoft's commitment to Windows Phone 7. For example, in the listing for Program Manager, Sr - Windows Phones opens with,

"Microsoft has deep investments in the development of the new Windows Phone and related backend services. Mobile is a critical area for Microsoft to re-build its brand presence, and win customers back with compelling and highly integrated features and applications. This is an outstanding opportunity to help build from the ground up a new mobile ecosystem that will be a highly competitive offering from Microsoft."

If your interested, the positions can be found over at Microsoft's Career Website. Just do a keyword search for "Windows Phone" and you can sift through the various openings. I just wonder if these new positions qualify for the free Windows Phones Microsoft is passing out to employees.
