It's always great when Nokia exclusives are no longer upheld and other Windows Phone owners can subsequently enjoy more available content. Today we've been alerted to both Risk and Connect 4 becoming available for not only Nokia Windows Phones, but other handsets too. Both titles are very popular, with the former picking up a number of favourable reviews.

We’re hard at work on our Skulls of the Shogun review, but it’s a long game and also features an extensive multiplayer component. As such, we’ll hold our judgment of that title until next week. In the meantime, let’s look at one of those Nokia exclusive Xbox games that half of us love to love and the other half loves to grumble about.  Risk.

The Nokia-Electronic Arts partnership has produced games in a variety of genres so far. The mostly highly represented game type is actually board games, with The Game of Life, Connect 4, Trivial Pursuit, and Risk among its numbers. Risk recently gained Windows Phone 8 compatibility, making it a prime target for review. It’s also one of the stronger board game adaptations to appear on Microsoft’s mobile platform.

Every time we report on Windows Phone 8 compatibility, it’s a good news/bad news situation. The Oregon Trail gained compatibility while Shoot 1 UP lost it… Babel Rising 3D sort of became compatible (which was a mistake), and KenKen lost it for no apparent reason…  Which brings us to this weekend.

Good news: Risk from Nokia and Electronic Arts is now available for Lumia phones running Windows Phone 8! On the other hand, two more games – both Nokia exclusives – have jumped ship from Windows Phon 8. Can’t win, can we?

Alright, so a bad or ill-conceived game is still not good, no matter the price. But as last week’s sale on UNO proves, a lower price certainly makes the pill less bitter to swallow. Owners of Nokia Lumia phones just gained another low cost Xbox game to choose from, because the Nokia exclusive Connect 4 has dropped from $2.99 to the more palatable 99 cent price point.

Adding to the release of FourSquare, Nokia and EA Games has released the Xbox Windows Phone game Risk and Connect 4 to the Lumia line of Windows Phones. Both can easily be considered classic board games and the Windows Phone version represents the originals very well.

The game of Risk is one of global domination where you battle your opponents from country to country. The Windows Phone version allows for you to battle with up to five opponents or computer adversaries. Risk has Xbox Live achievements and leaderboards.

Windows Phone Game Review: World Domination

World Domination is an online, multi-player game for your Windows Phone that is designed in the tradition of the classic board game Risk. Your mission is to march your armies across the globe, wiping the floor up with your opponent.

The menu pages for World Domination covers your gaming status.  The menu pages include pages that will list the active games you have in progress, game requests waiting to be filled, your completed game stats, and a global high score list. Along the bottom of the menu pages you will find three button controls. One to start a new game, your settings access, and access to the help/how to section.

World Domination was recently updated which really improved the game performance. Before the update things were a bit laggy but after the version 1.8 update things moved along a lot nicer. Overall, World Domination isn't a bad online multi-player game.
