DEAL OF THE WEEK: Save 70% on the DICOTA Hard Cover for Nokia Lumia 900!

rogers

The Lumia 710 has been featured in a full-page newspaper advertisement, showing off the deal that Canadian carrier Rogers has on the table for the handset. The Toronto Start Newspaper where the advert was spotted is distributed almost entirely within the province of Ontario.

As pictured above, the advert illustrates the deal that enables consumers to pick up a 710 for just $49.99 (on a lengthy 3-year contract).  Should you not be interested in signing your life away for Nokia's Windows Phone, you can purchase the handset for $254.99 on a no-term deal.

Thanks wetworker for sending the image in!

Looks like folks up North can breathe a little sigh of relief as a 2nd generation Windows Phone has launched on Rogers today. Yes, the Nokia Lumia 710 is now available for the low-low price of $49.99 on a crazy three-year contract.  We first reported this a few weeks ago and looks like Rogers stuck to the date.

If signing your smartphone future away for three long years is not your cup of joe, you can have it on a no-term deal for a fairly decent $254.99. That's not shabby when you consider the Samsung Focus is still listed as $499.99 no-term.

We gave the 710 pretty high marks in our review, so while the phone is not for you high-enders, it's a great starter device for many.

We've already seen indications that the Nokia Lumia 710 is heading to Rogers Canada sometime in February. It now appears that the Nokia Lumia 900 will be joining the Roger's lineup in May.

No details on pricing but if true, Rogers will have a decent Windows Phone line up with the Lumia line joining the Samsung Focus

Now if we could just get them to start referencing things as "Windows Phone" instead of "Windows Mobile".

Attention all Canadians who are still after a second generation Windows Phone. The Nokia Lumia 710, which is coming to Rogers, is set to launch on February 6th (or there about) - just two weeks away. So what's the pricing like for the contract and SIM-free options?

  • $49.99: 3-Year contract
  • $99.99: 2-Year contract
  • $149.99: 1-Year contract
  • $254:99: SIM-free

Not bad for a second generation handset with the listed specifications. Be sure to read up on our review as well.

We've received several tips this afternoon reporting that the 8107 Windows Phone update is being pushed out to the Samsung Focus by Rogers Canada.

OS 8107 addresses the disappearing keyboard issue as well as other security fixes and patches. It has slowly trickled out to various carriers and even the unlocked Dell Venue Pro recently received the update.  If you've updated your Roger's Samsung Focus, let us know what you think.

Thanks goes out to everyone else who tipped us on this!

We just saw Telus begin promoting the Lumia 800 and now Nokia Canada themselves are showing that phone and Roger's Lumia 710 off on their front page. Canada: your time has come!

Regarding Rogers, they have a "In stores this February" which gives you a pretty good idea of when to expect that. For Telus, they just have "coming soon" which is a bit too vague for our likes, but we're thinking that too is just a few weeks.

In fact, we have a tip stating that in Canada, February 6th is the day for a launch party for so-called "Generation 2" devices, which includes Nokia's and who knows what else at this point. We can't verify that date ourselves, but the tipster said they confirmed it with their local Bell and Rogers stores--so take that as you will. Seeing as Nokia is listing the 710 as February, it seems to coincide nicely. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Dear fellow Canadians, here's some exciting news for those of you who feel left out of the Windows Phone party. Nokia is bringing the Lumia 710 and 800 to Canada (as Nokia CEO Stephen Elop explains in the CES interview), which are to be exclusively available on Rogers and Telus respectively. The 710 is set to be on Rogers in February, but no word on availability of the 800 with Telus as of yet.

The only thing left for us to read through is an official press release. Good times ahead anyway. Be sure to check out the Nokia Momentum Map for more details on expansion plans.

Rogers is sending out updates to customers who own the Samsung Focus 1.3, to fit in with everyone else, although we're not sure what the update brings. While the OS version remains to be Mango (7720), both firmware and radio software versions have been bumped. Unfortunately, no tethering is present.

For those up north on Rogers, you'll want to take a look at their new app 'My Account' which basically gives you details on voice, data and messaging usage, account balance and other useful info. Seems similar to the AT&T account app, which is something we like to see on other devices. The app is also Mango-ready.

Now if Rogers could just get some new phones...

Good news if you're on Rogers and have been wanting to purchase the popular Samsung Focus: it's now $100 cheaper for the no-contract version, bringing the price down to "just" $499 (yeah, it was $600 before, ouch). That may not sound too much of a deal, but some would rather pay that lower price than commit to a massive three-year contract, which still blows our mind.

Of course if three-year contracts are you thing, then it's only $20 for your time.

We have a report (and screenshot seen above) that users on Rogers/Bell may be getting a firmware and radio update to their phones post-NoDo. According to WPCentral reader TToP:

I have a Rogers Samsung Focus unlocked and running on the Bell Network. I unlocked, and unbranded my phone to install the NoDo update on Sunday, and this morning received a update prompt on my phone. Hooked it up to Zune, and found there was an "Available Update" tagged as "Samsung update for windows Phone." Did the update and found that the Firmware and Radio revision numbers changed. FW and radio versions are now 2124.10.12.2. Took about a half hour for the update.

We already know Dell is scheduling a firmware update for the Venue Pro that is separate from the February/March OS updates, so Samsung doing the same would fit in line with that model. Any other of our readers want to confirm? For the record, we tried it on our unlocked and unbranded Samsung Focus (on AT&T) and got nothin' (we're rocking 2103.10.10.1 for Firmware). Thanks, TToP, for the tip!

Samsung Focus owners on the Rogers network are reporting that they are receiving the March Nodo Update today. We've gotten a handful of tips from Roger's customers who were pleasantly surprised that when they hooked their carrier locked Focus up to Zune, the update notification was there.

We can only hope that AT&T isn't too far behind.  So for the Roger's customers in the crowd, how's the update process going?

Thanks to Sean, Rob and everyone else who tipped us on this!

The next Windows Phone 7 device hitting Canada is the Dell Venue Pro that is reportedly arriving through Rogers at the suspected date of March 17th.

As previously mentioned, tipsters have supplied pricing information on the vertical-sliding device at $149.99 with a 3-year contract or $599.99 without a contracted commitment. As our Seth Brodeur pointed out in the article, $149.99 seems fairly expensive for a three year bound contract. Since then, there has been word that the prices could be slightly lower at $449.99 and $99.99 respectively. We will inform you as to when we confirm these new rumours.

While AT&T customers get the LG Quantum/HTC Surround for $0.01, it looks like the folks in Canada who are on Rogers can enjoy the Samsung Focus for free when purchased through Best Buy. Certainly a good deal for those peeps, even if you have to commit to a ghastly three-year contract (those still blow our minds--imagine what a smartphone will look like in 3 years?).

Of course, some users may want to wait for a few days till the Dell Venue Pro hits on that same carrier...

Rogers' Venue Pro pricing leaked

As you may have heard, Rogers mobile will be offering the Dell Venue Pro in March.  According to a tipster, pricing on the vertical slider will be $149.99 with a 3-year contract commitment or $599.99 with no contract.  While non-contract pricing for phones usually hovers between the $400-$600 mark, $149.99 seems to be a bit steep for a three year commitment.  There may be some other pricing available down the road, but as of now, this is all we know about.

Looks like things are a moving in Canada. They're getting the HTC HD7 on Bell in a week or two and now word is that Rogers is getting the Dell Venue Pro in March--no word on pricing though. The 4.1" AMOLED screen device with a sliding keyboard should be a big hit and what is unique is evidently Rogers may be selling the device directly, unlike here on T-Mobile. Such a move should result in higher sales for the already popular phone.

Perhaps making room for the HD7, Bell is reducing the contract-cost of the LG Quantum from $79.95 ($100 at launch) to $29.95 with a 3-year contract. LG has had some problems pushing its Windows Phone choices in the market and perhaps this drop in price is in response.

See what we did there? Used the alternated spelling of colored. You know, for Canada. Anyhoo, Electronista says "sources familiar with its [HTC's] plans" have it that the Canadian network will be the first in North America to pick up the HTC Touch2, a lower-end touchscreen Windows Mobile 6.5 phone, and that they'll be available as red, black ok blue slabs. No word on actual availability. [Electronista via Engadget Mobile]

The Xperia X1, Sony Ericsson's great mediocre experiment, apparently is headed for a soft launch on Canada's Rogers network. [via BGR]

Stores will start getting stock on June 9, but it doesn't look like they'll all have it on hand. If the stores aren't selling copius amounts of data, well, no X1 for you! June 30 is still named as a full retail launch, with the 3-year contract price listed at $249.99, and all the way up to $749 sans contract.

Canadian GSM carrier Rogers has decided that they like Windows Mobile, apparently, as next year they'll be snapping up pretty much everything that's on the roadmap. What's in store for the first half of 2009? Xperia X1, Check. HTC Diamond and Touch Pro: Check. Heck, they're even snapping up also-rans like the Motorola Q11 (Think Q9 minus 3G plus WiFi), Touch Viva, and Touch 3G.

These and more juicy details at the HoFo thread where the leaked slides of their roadmap appear.

Get some reasonable data rates on the network and, well, we might just consider brushing up on our Canadian accents.

Thanks, Bla1ze!

Rogers already carries some nice Windows Mobile phones, including the Samsung Jack (presumably no Canadian company dare call a smartphone “Blackanything”) and we've confirmed that they'll be getting the HP 910c soon too.

The exciting news, however, is that we've received confirmation, based on the internal doc above, that Rogers is definitely going to be picking up the HTC Touch Diamond. That's the GSM version, friends (it being Rogers and all) and it's going to work with Rogers' 3G network. As in: it will have the same 3G bands that AT&T uses in the US of A. As in: you'll now be able to buy a Diamond from Best Buy and from Rogers, but there's still no word yet about AT&T.

Come on, you lovable blue globe, you know you don't want to let Rogers have a North American exclusive on this, right? Besides, you wouldn't want the HTC Fuze to get lonely.
