The ATIV S has had its priced slashed in Russia, according to a report over at WindowsPhoneLive.ru. It's believed the change is down to the Samsung Windows Phone selling rather poorly, which has led to both Svyaznoy and Euroset dropping the Windows Phone by 5,000 rubles ($160). Should you be looking at the ATIV S, now would be a good time to begin checking it out for a good deal.

Ever since Microsoft has been a bit more candid about some of the problems with the 7.8 update, specifically Tiles that either don’t update or suck down too much data, there have been reports of Microsoft halting the update in some countries. Germany has been pretty much confirmed at this point as throwing the brakes and now Russia is evidently joining the crowd.

Today we have an in depth good look at the Alcatel One Touch Windows Phone handset, designed to compete in the lower cost segment it looks to come in around US $226.36.

While much of the attention is understandably on the higher end Windows Phone 8 devices there remains a pressing need to get lower cost devices into the hands of consumers. The Alcatel One Touch brings with it a good specification at a lower price point but stands out as the first Windows Phone without a dedicated camera button. Read on past the break to find out more.

Looks like Nokia might be set to have a big announcement in early November for Russia, perhaps to showcase the Lumia 920 Windows Phone.  Or maybe the Lumia 820?

Not much is said about what’s to be expected but the invite does reveal some clues.

Nokia is rightly pushing photography as the big draw for the next generation of Lumia devices. The Lumia 920 has seen a barrage of OIS video and night photography tests. So it doesn’t leave much to the imagination when we get an invite with a girl taking a photo and a bat in the background. Not too subtle a reference really but we get it.

An Alcatel-Lucent Windows Phone running what appears to be version 7.5 of Microsoft's operating system has been spotted in the wild. According to a report over at Hi-Tech.Mail.ru, the device will be loaded with Windows Phone 7.8 and be available by the end of 2012. Alcatel will have likely chosen to support Windows Phone 7.8 to keep costs down on hardware and to sell less advanced hardware in bulk.

Nokia announces pricing for both new Lumias

Nokia has unveiled today availability and pricing for both of its new Windows Phones in a handful of markets. The Lumia 820, as well as the Lumia 920, will be heading to countries throughout Europe and beyond. We've long awaited confirmation on where the new hardware will be heading, not to mention how much it'll cost consumers to invest in.

Russia Today, the state-sponsored news network, is basically Russia’s answer to the BBC. The Russia Today TV channel is the second-most watched foreign news channel in the US, and the Russia Today website RT.com (which makes me think of Retweeting) is available in English and several other languages.

In April, an indie developer named Jampot published an RSS reader for Windows Phone named Russia Today. That app leaves much to be desired since the links simply open up in the phone’s web browser. Now the real Russia Today team has released an official app entitled RT News. Why they didn’t ask for the previous app to be removed so they could use its name I don’t know – perhaps it seemed like too much trouble. At any rate, it’s great that we have an official app now, but it still has plenty of room for improvement.

What do you get when you pack a lift full of Russians, paid for by the Nokia Lumia marketing budget? Well, it's fairly difficult to describe so we'll let the three videos do the explaining of some superb marketing stunts.

The first video shows unsuspected members of the public in the "Amazing Nokia Lift" when a horde of what appears to be police officers charge into the small space and stare that person down. Once they've completely freaked out, the headwear is removed and a superbly executed version of "I Will Survive" is performed.

Next up, we've got the Amazing Nokia Lift - Girls (pretty self-explanatory):

Not to mention the Amazing Nokia Lift - Angry Birds, which is a rampaging onslaught of character costumes being flung at the lift as it halts at each floor:

What's amazing about Nokia is how diverse their campaigns are. From 4D projection music events all the way to blowing away the competition with Lumia handsets, there seems to be no limit to the imagination of those involved. In the end we all now know that Russians win, at basically everything.

Dobroye utro to our Russian friends yearning for a Nokia Lumia 800.  We just got word Nokia Russia announced that starting on December 1st, you can pick up your very own Nokia Lumia 800. Only caveat is that you have to buy it directly from a Nokia store--at least for now. In two weeks, we'll see a more general and traditional rollout across the country.

Even better? The flagship Nokia store in Moscow is looking to hold a celebration for the event, including offering a 10% discount and other prizes for those who register (via Facebook) and show up (translated):

"In the flagship salon in Moscow for the occasion will be a festive event. The first half hour after the announcement of the start of sales at the counter will be Eric Bertman, vice president and general manager of Nokia in Eurasia, and Nikolai Pryanishnikov, president of Microsoft in Russia. Hurry up to buy Nokia Lumia 800 of the first-hand =) Discount for Nokia Lumia 800 is waiting for you on the day of start of sales! Reserve a place for 10% discount on the page of the event"

Sounds like a good time and a great way to get a Lumia not only early but discounted. Good luck to anyone who attends (drop us some photos if you're there).

Well this is interesting and we can't verify 100% at the moment, but we're told this is from the official HTC developer site for Russia (official HTC site is this: http://www.htc.com/ru/) and they're clearly showing off a Mozart for sale. No biggy there, but the fact that is says in red "UNIT HAS RUSSIAN LOCALIZATION" is of interest since as of now, Windows Phone doesn't have Russian. Heck, even the 7720 build of Mango doesn't have Russian on it, which means if this is legit it's certainly an HTC-OEM thing. You can evidently order it for 19,990 Russian rubles or about $690.

So does this actually have Russian language support? Does it run Mango? Maybe and it must.  Someone should pony up and we can all find out. Hey, if Japan can get the IS12T now, why not Russia? And perhaps, just perhaps that HTC announcement later today will shed some light on this sudden change. Stay tuned...

Dobroye utro! Sure we're biased towards English around these parts, sorry about that. But that doesn't mean we can't give some love to our non-English speakers, after all we're pretty sure there's more of you than us. So we're pretty excited to mention that a new podcast in 100% Russian is now available for your pleasure (assuming we have some Russian readers, of course).

The podcast seems to focus on the developers perspective (so, it sounds analogous to the WP Dev Podcast here in the States) and hopefully it'll be a regular thing. Good lucks guys!

Head over to Windows Phone 7 Rocks #1 to give it a listen; Thanks, Alex K, for the heads up

In a recent interview, Nokia bigwig, Stephen Elop, said that it is "possible" that we may see the first Nokia-branded WP7 phones this year.  And even though Elop and other Nokia execs are gunshy about committing to that possibility, the head of Russian mobile giant Sviaznoj, Denis Liudkovski, is offering up a little more certainty.  Nokia and Sviaznoj are in discussions on a possible deal that would create Nokia "shop-in-shop" outlets within the Russian retailer's stores, and after the meeting Liudkovski had this to say:

“We are the key Nokia partner in Russia. Thanks’ to the cooperation agreements on the “shop-in-shop” format, all the newest models show up at Sviaznoj earlier then in competing outlets…. We expect that the first Windows Mobile based Nokia smartphone will show up in our stores before the end of 2011”

Liudkovski did not give a reason for his expectations, but presumably, his confidence is stemming from some behind-the-scenes assurance he received during the meeting.  We also assume that by "Windows Mobile" he meant "Windows Phone."  Even the big guys slip up from time to time.
