Nokia has launched its free music streaming service in the UAE (United Arab Emirates), opening up a catalogue of songs and playlists for consumers to enjoy. The service is what many in other markets have already enjoyed for some time, taking full advantage of a free service that enables Windows Phone owners to discover new music. What's more is the manufacturer has also launched its premium Music+ upgrade in Singapore.

The Lumia 620 is hitting the shores of Singapore, thanks to a tip from a mobile phone specialist store Adix82 located in the country. As one can see from the photos we've been sent in, the Lumia 620 is looking rather good in pink. The device is priced at SGD 310 ($250), which is a steal for Windows Phone 8 hardware.

The Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 Windows Phones will be available in Singapore on December 8th, according to Hardware Zone. Priced at $899 and $699 respectively, the Nokia hardware will be stocked by all three operators - M1, SingTel and StarHub. It'll be interesting to see how long it takes for the flagship Windows Phone to sell out due to stock shortages.

Microsoft and Nokia held a developer event in Singapore recently that focused on platform development and the advanced functionality available for app / game creation in Windows Phone 8. According to a tip from an attendee of this event (who wishes to remain anonymous), the Head of Nokia Asia Pacific Developer Relations informed the audience that Windows Phone 7.8 has been RTM (Released To Manufacturers) this week.

Windows Phone 8 is almost upon us but before that we still have Windows 8 launch to get through. Looks like retailers in the Singapore are going to use that weekend to start pushing the HTC 8X in a promo sale.

The offer is set to last for three days only from 26th to the 28th of October, this is way ahead of the official launch on 3rd November so this could be one to look out for.

Nokia launched the Lumia 900 in Singapore with a media blitz

We mentioned last week that Singapore was due to receive the Nokia Lumia 900 on May 26th and sure enough, the flagship Windows Phone has launched today on SingTel and at various locations. It joins the previously launched Lumia 710 and 800 in the region.

The device seems priced well, S$248 which according to the site WP7SG is "considerably cheap" as the HTC One X  is being offered at S$318 on the same contract.--that's important and good news as the One X is considerable competition.

What's more, advertising for the device, while a bit late for WP7SG's tastes seems quite ubiquitous with no less than four ads in The Straits Times for StarHub, SingTel, Nokia and M1. However, the papers TODAY! or The New Paper did not carry ads at least not yet.

Two more ads for the Lumia 900 in the paper

Nokia's Facebook page did boast the fact that the first five customers to their Nokia stores who purchase the Lumia 900 will get a free Xbox 360 Kinect Holiday Bundle, which is a heck of a deal and some great enticement. Since the 900 is off contract there at the Nokia stores, the price is considerably higher: S$849 at Nokia Store and "approximately S$720 at some stores such as Adix"

Featuring a 4.3" Super AMOLED screen with ClearBlack, 16GB of storage and an 8MP rear camera (plus front facing), the Lumia 900 ships with OS 87730 ("Tango") and should make quite a splash in Singapore.

Around here at WPCentral, we get a lot of international users asking "When is X coming to my country?". The Lumia 900 is one of those frequently asked about and specifically in Singapore.

So we're glad to report that it's officially launching there on May 26th, fetching for S$849 (US$ 670) and available in three colors: matte-black, glossy-white and of course, cyan.

The pricing may seem a bit high, especially since in the US it can be had for $450 (off-contract). However pricing is relative and from what we understand high-end devices like HTC and Samsung often sell for S$900 or higher. In that sense the Lumia 900 is not cutthroat cheap but it's fair. Reportedly three carries will have the device available to consumers within a few weeks.

How well will Nokia and Windows Phone fair in Singapore remains to be seen. They already ave the Lumia 710 and 800 (in fact they had the 800 way back in December). Will the 900 grab that upper echelon of the market? We hope so.

Yesterday we showed you how to get the latest firmware for your Lumia 710, version 12070, on your device early but those in Singapore won't have to. As promised earlier, Nokia has started rolling out this update officially for that device in that region meaning all you need to do is plug in your phone to your Zune Desktop.

Singapore is also getting the 12070 firmware update for the Lumia 800 as well.

The update addresses an annoying issue where some users can't end  call once initiated, instead they have to pull the battery or shutdown the phone. Further, this update brings other "performance enhancements" to the table e.g. we notice our phone turns on faster now when we hit the power button.

This is also a good sign that Nokia will begin rolling this update out more globally in the next few weeks, dependent on carrier request.

Itching to get your hands on a glossy white Lumia 800? Live in Singapore? Then you'll want to head to SingTelShop.com to order youself up one of the more rare looking Nokia devices.

Available now for $349 you can order and renew a line or get a whole new one. And if white isn't your thing, you can of course still get black, cyan or fuchsia for the same price.

No word in what form, where or how but the Smoked by Windows Phone campaign is coming to Singapore "soon...very soon". So says the official Microsoft Singapore Facebook page.

The Smoked by Windows Phone campaign started off in CES, moved to some stores in California and most recently appeared at the Mobile World Congress. In addition, Microsoft said they would expand the campaign to include TV and presumably other areas and this looks to be the case here.

It should be interesting to see what happens.

Nokia seems to be wrapping up testing of their much anticipated firmware update, 12070. The update brings better battery life through better controlled screen-brightness and ~70 mA discharge when idle.  In addition, the update tweaks the camera's white balance a little and sound is improved via the bass response.

We can testify that 12070 has nearly tripled our battery life since we forced-upgraded from 11401, making this a worthy and important update for Lumia users.

Those in Singapore seem to be the lucky ones tonight as they are now getting 12070 official through Zune Desktop, making them the first group to get the honors. So if you're in Singapore, y'all need to stop reading this and go get your update as it is totally worth the 15 minutes.

We expect the rest of Lumia 800 users to start to get their updates later on this week. Stay tuned.

Thanks, VoodooKing for the heads up; See XDA forums for further confirmation

Here's a site we hope to see more of: ordinary people lining up to get a Nokia Windows Phone. We mentioned the Singapore launch for the Lumia 800 a few days ago and now we have some photos of people braving the...ummm...temperate conditions for nearly 8 hours to get their 800's.

Of course those first 100 people did get a free Xbox 360 with a Kinect for their suffering, so we suppose we'd line up for that too. Great to see, regardless.

The Nokia Lumia 800 continues its tour-de-force world-wide launch as it pushes next into Singapore on December 7th, as detailed on their Facebook page. But before the big launch, Nokia has numerous events in the preceding days leading up to the big celebration. Such events include 'The Amazing Nokia Style Challenge', 'The Amazing Nokia Entertainment Challenge' and 'the Nokia Lumia Amazing Rides' all taking place on December 3rd and 4th.

What's even better? The first 100 people to buy the Nokia Lumia 800 at the launch will also get an Xbox 360 with a Kinect for free. Say what? That's some incentive and hopefully there won't be a riot (see BlackBerry).

Finally, on December 8th, there's a workshop available at the Pan Pacific Singapore. You'll need to reserve a spot for the event and you get more info from this super-cool, interactive Lumia website.

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer is in Singapore today to help promote the launch of Office 2010/Imagine Cup Awards Ceremony, nothing too surprising there.

Evidently Steve took some questions from the audience and on Windows Phone 7, he reportedly had this to say:

We're focused on putting Windows Phone 7 in phones, no plans for tablets.

With the cancellation of Courier, the uncertain future of HP's Slate and the likes of Bach and Allard leaving, what exactly is Microsoft's strategy for tablet computers going to be? We know WP7 can scale up to large resolutions and evidently has a robust enough DPI to handle a high-resolution tablet.

So was he just being cagey or legit? It's not like he would just announce a Windows Phone 7-Tablet initiative in such an offhand way. Then again, MS has made some boneheaded moves in the past, and not taking advantage of WP7 + tablets could be one of them.

Speaking of shakeups, regarding the latest to the E&D division, he also reportedly said (paraphrasing)

There will not be further changes in mobile and entertainment strategy after management shakeup

That's a relief. The whole web seems to be crackling with 'WP7 FAIL' predictions after yesterday's news.

Update: In a video interview with Fortune, Ballmer clearly states they are going with Windows 7 and not Windows Phone 7 for tablets. Can Windows 7 answer the craving for instant-on, low power, low heat and fast mobile OS that consumers demand?
