Vodafone is rolling out a firmware update for the Nokia Lumia 800 Windows Phone. The update, 12072, is primarily a bug-fixing release that will address the battery issue, updated the camera software and address the volume problem. The firmware update lacks internet tethering which is still slated for a future update.

According to Vodafone Australia, this update supersedes the previously announced 12070 update that began rolling out earlier this month in other markets. Apparently there was an issue that prevented the wide scale roll out of that update. It sounds as if this update picks up where the earlier roll-out left off.

We are getting tips that Vodafone Spain, Australia and U.K. customers are receiving the update. If you've received the update, feel free to share your experiences in the comments.

Thanks, everyone, for the tip!

Nokia had set up shop in the Metro station at the Barcelona University, but the manufacturer decided to take its promotion campaign into the campus grounds of the Madrid University. Bringing in a DJ and pumping out a loud beat or two, the campus laid host to Nokia's bash over the weekend.

There were a variety of creative activities for students to get involved in, including: dancing, sewing, and more. The day turned night and evening enjoyment took over with an array of waving glow sticks. Overall, it was an opportunity not only for Nokia, but for students to engage with (and express) their creativity.

Not a week goes by without Nokia getting some exposure via their "Amazing Everyday" campaign. This week we get two new videos, one from Madrid (Marquesinas Autobus) and Barcelona (Marquesinas Metro) with the latter being especially pertinent as we're on the cusp of Mobile World Congress 2012 which occurs in that very city starting in one week.

In these new videos we see a four-foot interactive Windows Phone that allows passerbys to take a few minutes to try the amazing UI. Come to think of it, this is a great idea as many of you will agree that the Metro UI is one of the key selling points of Windows Phone (and by extension Nokia). So allowing users to play with a giant phone while waiting for the subway or bus seems like a great way to get folks to experience the new design.

We've said it a million times already and we'll say it again, it's great to have Nokia out there pushing Windows Phone.

If it's one thing Nokia likes doing more than selling phones, it's showing how they promote 'em. In this behind-the-scenes video posted by Benson Señora Producciones, we can see a new ad-campaign for the "Amazing Everyday" being set up in Madrid's Estación de Ópera, a fairly popular train hub in Spain.

So knowing the name of the place it makes sense to see the "Amazing Everyday" take on an opera theme, including a mini-stage with a digital singer presumably singing some nifty tune to folks who are passing by the setup. Actually, if you look close it seems to be a 4 foot tall digital Windows Phone that demonstrates the OS.

Clearly the setup is innovative and more importantly, eye catching.

Thanks, Ellis B., for the tip!

Even though officially Nokia is suppose to be mum on the issue, that hasn't stopped Nokia Portugal via their Facebook page from speaking about the 900 availability there.

In a comment on their wall they explicitly state that the Lumia 900 will be launching there at some point:

"Por fim, respondendo à questão do Daniel, sim, vamos também lançar o Nokia 900 em Portugal." / "Finally, answering the question Daniel, yes, we will also launch the Nokia 900 in Portugal. "

And no, they don't seem to be confusing it with the Lumia 800 which is what the original discussion was about. The Lumia 900 was announced as an AT&T "exclusive" but many believe that deal to only last from anywhere from 45 days to 3 months, with world-wide launches coming by mid 2012. Next month, Mobile World Congress is occurring in Barcelona and it may be a good time for Nokia to start announcing when that device will launch for the rest of the world. At any rate, we're seeing more and more of these smaller Nokia channels mentioning the device, which is a good sign.

While we have no such luck on any carrier here in the US for the coveted 8107 OS update, Lumia 710 users in Spain are now able to get that very update starting today. However, there is no accompanying firmware update, just the OS.

That's impressive because the Lumia 710, which shipped with 7740, was introduced there just last week (much like the US) and they're already rolling out that all-important update. The primary fix for 8107 is of course the disappearing keyboard bug as well as additional security patches.

Will any of us in the States get this update? Fingers are crossed. Read our review of the T-Mobile Lumia 710 right here.

Microsoft is scheduled to officially release Windows Phone 7 to the world on October 11, 2010 in New York City. According to the Spanish website elEconomista.es sources close to Microsoft are saying that, in Spain, the phones will be on store shelves ten days later on October 21, 2010.

Quoting the article, "Ten days later on October 21, the mobile will reach stores Spain MoviStar, Vodafone and Orange, hand already working these days in their respective campaigns launch. As it has know sources close to Microsoft, elEconomista (MSFT.NQ) ) the first manufacturers shall HTC, LG and Samsung. Later add Dell and Toshiba, among others."

Granted some things could have been lost in translation but this is in line with other rumors we've heard about October 21st.  It's also nice to see Dell and Toshiba still in the rumor mill with regards to Windows Phone 7 is concerned.

Considering Europe will get Windows Phone 7 on the 21st, the question now turns to whether or not WP7 will be release outside Europe on the same date?  Will the U.S. market see the phones on the 21st as well?  Or will the previous rumors hold true with Windows Phone 7 hitting the shelves in the U.S. in November?
