Slacker Radio is one of our favorite streaming radio apps for both Windows Phone 7 and Windows Mobile. Sports fans can now get their fix as Slacker have partnered with ESPN to bring ESPN Radio content to your phone. We’re assuming this is going to function in a similar way to ABC news on Slacker, where basically you get individual clips that rotate through in the same way you would go through individual songs.

The really cool part of this partnership is limited to paying subscribers. If you’re paying for a Slacker account, your ESPN radio station can be fully customized to fine tune the coverage you are interested in.

Get Slacker from the Marketplace here. The full press release is after the break.

Last week we brought you news of Full House Poker’s release date well in advance, and we’re pleased to be able to do it again this week. March 23’s Xbox Live game for Windows Phone 7 will be Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 from Konami.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 is the mobile edition of Konami’s popular soccer/football franchise. The Windows Phone 7 version is a port of the iPhone game. It’s a surprisingly accurate recreation of the sport, with realistic tactical game play, licensed European teams, advanced A.I. and numerous authentic animations. Pro Evolution Soccer’s 3D graphics (which these tiny screen shots may not convey) contribute to the realism as well. The player models, detailed stadiums, and weather effects all make for a very console-like presentation. The game features multiple control options: simple accelerometer and touch-screen controls or a virtual pad and buttons.

The only thing missing from the Windows Phone 7 version of the game is multi-player. We continue to hope and pray for the day that Microsoft allows mobile Xbox Live titles to have local Wi-Fi or online multi-player.  It will come to pass! For now, soccer fans will have to make due with 19 Xbox Live Achievements and friends Leaderboards.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 will debut on March 23. It will cost $4.99.

QB Football - Review

We ran across an interesting game for Windows Phone 7. There isn't much to QB Football compared to other sports games for your Windows Phone. No fancy graphics, no stunning animations or sound effects. QB Football is a simple, text oriented football game that pits you against your phone.

The game has you choosing offensive and defensive plays to counter what the phone selects. Game progress is displayed on a ticker that appears just below the scoreboard and game time runs accordingly with the plays chosen. Running plays will eat more of the clock while passing options tend to run the clock more conservatively.

Scoremobile has been updated to include additional sports leagues. The Windows Phone 7 application provides updated scores, stats, standings, betting odds, news and videos on your favorite sports leagues.  The original release only covered the NFL, NBA, NCAA Football and Basketball, NHL, and EPL Soccer.

Just in time for Spring Training and the start of race season, the update adds the following leagues/sports into the mix:

  • MLS Soccer, LIGA Soccer, SERI Soccer, Champions Soccer
  • CFL Football
  • MLB Baseball
  • NASCA and Formula One Racing
  • PGA Golf
  • WTA Tennis and ATP Tennis.

While we haven't heard anything official, the update also appears to have included some performance tweaks. Screens seem to load and refresh a little smoother from the original release.

There is a bug with the update that is easily fixed. If you apply the update through the Marketplace, you won't see the changes. However, if you uninstall the original version and re-install the updated version, you'll then see the new leagues.  The bad thing about this option is that you'll loose all your favorite teams.

If you haven't installed ScoreMobile and need a decent sports app, you can find it here (opens Zune) at the Marketplace. It's a free application.

MyBookie, the fantasy betting app for your Windows Phone, is getting updated. The update will offer Facebook expansion by adding Office Pools into the mix.

Office Pools are designed to add a competitive spirit to the game allowing you to bet against your Facebook friends as well as betting against the house. The update will allow you to join existing Office Pools or design your own.

For those not familiar with MyBookie, it's a fantasy sports betting game that has you betting virtual currency against real-world sporting events. The game pulls in real-time betting lines for events and covers NFL, NCAA Football, NBA, NCAA Basketball, MLB and NHL games.

The update is expected to be available on Super Bowl Sunday through your Marketplace updating system. You can catch the full press release after the break and you can find MyBookie here (opens Zune) as well as MyBookie Lite (the free version) here at the Marketplace.

ScoreMobile - Review

Score Media Ventures has brought ScoreMobile to the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace. The free app brings sports scores, news, stats and videos to your Windows Phone. Fantastic, right?

ScoreMobile also allows you to tag teams as your favorites, making it easier to follow their progress as the season moves along. The app has a minor degree of customization and it ran very stable.

To find out the particulars of ScoreMobile, follow the break.

ScoreMobile Update rumors

ScoreMobile hasn't been a part of the Windows Phone Marketplace for long and we're now hearing rumors of what the first update will entail.

It is our understanding that developers are wanting to add Live Tile functionality to ScoreMobile. Maybe a tile that will display your top three favorite team scores?  Maybe notification when a score for a favorite team changes?

Another addition should be to increase the sports leagues the app will monitor. Other platforms cover a wider range of leagues and one glaring omission with the Windows Phone 7 version is Major League Baseball. ScoreMobile plans to add MLB and a few other sports leagues in their next update. Hopefully, in the nick of time for Spring Training.

So...if you could bend the ear of SportsMobile developers, just in case they're listening, what would you like to see added?

Thanks goes out to Alan for the tip!

While there are over 7,000 apps for Windows Phone 7, the one sorely lacking area in development is a good sport's score app. Hopefully, that's about to change.  Last month, we mentioned that Score Media was working on bringing ScoreMobile to Windows Phone 7 and the app was recently released over at the Marketplace.

The app allows you to follow NFL, NBA, NCAA Basketball and Football, NHL, and EPL Soccer scores and news. ScoreMobile also allows you to tag your favorite teams for easy look-up and includes any T.V. coverage information.

The initial impression is good and we'll take ScoreMobile out this weekend and get a full review up shortly. It's a free application so if you want to check it out, you can find it here (opens your Zune desktop) at the Marketplace.

You can brag about your bets on your Facebook wall as well as access your MyBookie account through Facebook.

Curious how well you can bet the odds?  Psydian Interactive Ltd. is working on a Windows Phone 7 app, MyBookie, that will let you bet on real sporting events, with real odds but using fantasy cash.  The app has been submitted to Microsoft for approval and barring any unforeseen complications, the software developer hopes to have the gaming app available later this month.

According to the press release,

"Sports fans and gaming enthusiasts alike have a lot to look forward to, as live scores from both professional and collegiate events are interwoven into a fantasy world fueled by virtual currency."

The app includes Facebook integration where you can compete against your Facebook friends to see how large of a fortune you can amass. A Facebook version of the MyBookie is also in the works.

MyBookie mobile features include:

  • League support includes: NFL, NCAA Football, NBA, NCAA Basketball, MLB, and NHL
  • Daily/Weekly event schedules, place your virtual wager days in advance
  • Live game scores and information including current Vegas odds
  • Multiple betting scenarios including: Game Spread, Moneyline, Over/Under, and Parlays
  • Wager history and analysis across multiple sports for an entire year
  • Player interaction with constantly evolving virtual characters

It looks like an interesting application and once it hits the Marketplace, we'll get a review worked up. For the full Press Release, just follow the break.

Birthdays and anniversaries are important to remember, sure. But we all know how best to use calendars: To know when your favorite sports team is playing. Enter iCalendarFactory, which adds sports teams' schedules to your calendar.

It only syncs 30 days at a time right now, and schedules are manually uploaded by the developer, so it's a little more hands-on than we'd like to see. But it's certainly worth a look-see. So far the NBA, NHL, MLB and NFL are available, as well as a slew of European futbol leagues.

Mobile March Madness

With March Madness fully underway, many of us are looking for ways to stay up-to-date with what is happening in the world of college basketball. Here is a look at some of the ways you can use your Windows Mobile phone towards that end.

  • Web browser - Many of the major names in sports news (ESPN, Fox Sports, CBS Sportsline, etc.) have made improvements to their mobile websites. My suggestion is try them all, see which one you like the most.
  • Text messages/Email - Most of the sites mentioned above offer some sort of alert service. The advantage of this obviously is that if you don

One of the things that I like about always having a live internet connection on me is that a wealth of live information is always at my fingertips. Along that vein…one of the things that I am constantly seeking updates on (much to my wife’s dismay) are sports scores and news. Until recently, none of my favorite sports sites have been very good at handling mobile web browsers.

CNN’s Sports Illustrated appears to have noticed my plight. Available only on select Windows Mobile devices, mySI mobile allows you to view scores, schedules, and standings for your 4 favorite teams. The product page also states that the data is updated when the application is launched. The coolest feature is the ability to add games to your Outlook calendar.

I was going to do a quick review, but although my Blackjack is listed at the top of the Supported Phones, I get an “Unsupported Device” page when I attempt the install.

Update: I emailed the mySI support team and was sent here. Looks like the manual downloads for each of the supported devices. It would appear that my issue was that I am using WM6, whereas they list the Blackjack I as a WM5 device...

Let us know in the comments if you get it to work, as well as what your thoughts are. After the break - More screenshots!
