Nokia has had a good amount of success with the European launch of the Nokia Lumia 800 and has hopes that success continues as the company begins its push into the North American market. The first Nokia Windows Phone for the U.S. Market is the Nokia Lumia 710, that is now available over at T-Mobile.

The Lumia 710 is a compact, entry level Windows Phone that sports a 3.7" screen that is protected by Corning's Gorilla Glass. The latest Windows Phone feels solidly built and comfortable in the hand.

As with other second generation Windows Phones, the Lumia 710 is designed more for a specific audience and may not appeal to everyone.  Some will find the 8gb of storage limiting and the missing front-facing camera disappointing. It may not suit your fancy but the Nokia Lumia 710 is a very good Windows Phone and a nice entry level model. It represents Nokia very well as their first U.S. Windows Phone.

Carly and the gang over at T-Mobile are running a new ad focusing on T-Mobile TV and the wireless carriers 4G network. You will also be introduced to America's first Nokia 4G phone, the Lumia 710.

The T-Mobile TV app comes pre-loaded on the Nokia Lumia 710 (and probably every other smartphone T-Mobile carries) and will be available tomorrow at T-Mobile.com, authorized retail stores and Target, Costco, and Wal-Mart stores nationwide.  With contractual discounts, you're looking at just under fifty bucks for Nokia's first U.S. Windows Phone.

Just a quick reminder that the Nokia Lumia 710 becomes available for order tomorrow from T-Mobile.com, authorized retail stores and from Target, Wal-Mart and Costco locations.

The Lumia 710 is a compact Windows Phone that sports a 3.7" screen, 8gb of storage and a 5mp camera. Our first impressions of the first Nokia Windows Phone to hit the U.S. Market was good. We've tinkered with it for a few days, the Windows Phone still makes a nice impression and look for a full review on the site shortly.

The Lumia 710 will run you $49.99 after the customary two year contractual discounts.  The phone will be available in an all black model and a white faced version.

The Nokia Lumia 710 is expected to hit T-Mobile's shelve on January 11, 2012 and will run just under $50 after contractual discounts . It will be the first Nokia Windows Phone for the U.S. Market and we've gotten our hands on one.

First impressions? The 710 is a very nice, compact Windows Phone. Feels solid in the hand and the screen looks great.

The Lumia 710 is slightly smaller than T-Mobile's other Windows Phone, the HTC Radar, separated by only tenths of an inch. The Lumia 710 has a 3.7" screen while the Radar sports a 3.8" screen.  The Lumia 710 is also very similar in size to the AT&T Samsung Focus Flash with the Flash being slightly smaller and lighter in size.

  Nokia Lumia 710 HTC Radar Samsung Focus Flash Size 4.69 x 2.46 x .49 4.7 x 2.4 x .43 4.57 x 2.31 x .27 Weight 4.4 ounces 4.83 ounces 4.1 ounces

The Lumia 710 is fitted with 512mb RAM, 8GB of storage, a 5mp camera, and 1300mah battery.  As with other second generation Windows Phones, the Lumia 710 comes across as a well built, solid phone but due to smaller storage space, the lack of a front facing camera and other specs it may not appeal to everyone.

We'll take the Lumia 710 out for a test drive over the next few days and get a full review up on the site shortly thereafter. If there's anything in particular you'd like us to look at, speak up in the comments.

For those looking to pick up the T-Mobile Lumia 710, you may want to head to Wirefly. The site is now taking pre-orders for the phone, available in white or black and they're offering it for $0 on new contracts. That's not too shabby of a deal if you ask us.

Oh, what's that? You want it without contract? We can do that too for a very fair $359

The Lumia 710 comes with a 1.4GHz CPU, 3.7" ClearBlack screen, 5MP camera and 8GB of on board storage. While not a flagship phone by most standards, it is a very nice mid-level device and makes a perfect give for a friend or family member who's not as into phones as you. No word on when Wirefly will ship it, but you should have it by the 11th.

With about two weeks away from becoming reality, the T-Mobile Nokia Lumia 710 is making an appearance over at Ebay. The 3.7" screened Windows Phone is the all black model is listed as "brand new unopened".

We're expecting the Lumia 710 to run $49.99 after contractual discounts. At last check, after 28 bids, the current bid on the "out of contract" model is $565. You've got little over five days left on the bidding or you can wait just a tad longer and snatch one up directly from T-Mobile.

You can find the T-Mobile Lumia 710 Ebay listing here.

We know the Lumia 710 for T-Mobile, in both black and white versions, is just days from launching. In fact, it's exactly two-weeks from now on January 11th and T-Mobile already has it listed on the site as "coming soon".

The mid-range 710 features a 1.4Ghz CPU, 5MP low-aperture lens and "clear black" 3.7" LCD screen with physical buttons, making it quite the nice offering especially for the low-price point of $49.95 on contract. The device is the first Windows Phone from Nokia to land on the US shores but many are expecting it to be upstaged by whatever AT&T and Nokia have to show off at CES in the same week.

Hopefully we'll be able to pre-order this lil' guy soon as we're itching to get our hands on it ASAP.  Check our hands-on with the Lumia 710 after the break to get a quick tour.

There is no joy in Dallas tonight.

After thoroughly reviewing the matter, AT&T has decided to end its bid to acquire T-Mobile. Even though the Justice Department, Federal Communications Commission and other industry members may disagree, AT&T still holds the position that such a merger would have been a good thing citing the need for more spectrum.  Spectrum needed to handle the growing consumer demand.

AT&T pledges to continue to be aggressive in leading the mobile revolution but took the opportunity to challenge policy makers to do their part. Chairman and CEO Randall Stephenson stated,

“To meet the needs of our customers, we will continue to invest. However, adding capacity to meet these needs will require policymakers to do two things. First, in the near term, they should allow the free markets to work so that additional spectrum is available to meet the immediate needs of the U.S. wireless industry, including expeditiously approving our acquisition of unused Qualcomm spectrum currently pending before the FCC. Second, policymakers should enact legislation to meet our nation’s longer-term spectrum needs."

The penalty for withdrawing the acquisition proposal.. $4 Billion that will be charged against the 4th Quarter of 2011. On the plus side, AT&T will enter into a mutually beneficial roaming agreement with Deutsche Telekom. So while the sale fell through, an AT&T and T-Mobile partnership may still be a possibility.

Howdy folks, we're still here, rocking away at the T-Mobile-Nokia Lumia 710 launch event in SoHo, New York. Anywho, above you'll find out hands on with the 710, which we're impressed with. The screen is gorgeous, the camera is great and it feels perfect in the hand.

The device features a powerful 1.4Ghz CPU, 3.7" "clear black" screen, 8GB of memory and low-aperture camera which should meet most people's needs who are entry or mid-level smartphone users. Heck, even we want one.

Nokia is planning on supporting this device through their "concierge service" which allows customers to basically interact with Nokia directly for support on their phone--not just problems, but on how to maximize the device's use to its fullest potential. That sounds a lot like an Apple-experience, but you didn't hear that from us. In addition, expect some Nokia-backed advertising for this device--not Deadmau5 kind of things, but strong, consistent support which is a win for the Windows Phone ecosystem as well as Nokia/T-Mobile.

Look for this phone for $49.95 come January. Finally, we're expecting a large Nokia presence at CES in Vegas, where we we'll be reunited for whatever they have to announce or show off. Stay tuned! A few more pics after the break...

We've heaped praise on the HTC Radar 4G (review) for awhile now--yes, it's a "mid-range" Windows Phone but it's a darn good mid-range phone, one that we use daily. So it's nice to see we're not alone as the Radar, a relatively new phone on the TMo network, is the second highest rated phone on their site. With 76 reviews in it averages at a nice 4.7 average rating (out of 5), only following the myTouch Q (which has a 4.9 average but only 14 reviews).

Unfortunately, that has not turned into sales as the phone is not even in the top ten. But one thing that is clear, the Radar 4G has some dedicated users who felt strong enough to rate it that high--that's a good sign and hopefully it will translate into more users adopting the phone.

We're already aware of the upcoming T-Mobile/Nokia event (we'll be there), and that the Lumia 710 is making its way to the U.S. thanks to an FCC manual, but in case there's any doubt left in some minds it's certainly clear by looking at the above image that the handset is making it's way onto T-Mobile's network. What will remain to be seen is if any other announcements will be made. Nokia is yet to hit the U.S. with a promotion campaign to the likes of what we've witnessed in Europe (especially the UK).

T-Mobile looks set to push accessories (as expected) when they launch the Lumia 710, but will you be picking one up or going with the HTC Radar?

And since the international HTC Titan received an update this morning, we finally got around to updating our U.S. T-Mobile Radar 4G which is getting its first firmware refresh too (the unlocked version received one a few weeks ago). Here are the software changes.

  • Firmware - 20102 (old - 10802)
  • Bootloader - 2.1 (old - 1.8)
  • Radio - 03.17_ 16.27.00 (old - 02.09_2_16.24.00)

It seems clear that HTC is moving to a 2.x bootloader and 2.x firmware for both the Titan and Radar, meaning the AT&T Titan could very well get a refresh soon too.

The update took about 20 minutes and we even gained a teeny amount of space back (see above) which was kind of nice. There's no word either on what this addresses, but presumably its for performance and fixes--some of which we hope to find in the next few days (lets us know if you notice any).

Also, the international version of the HTC Radar, at least on T-Mo in the Netherlands, received a software refresh yesterday too:

  • Firmware - 20103 (old - 10902)
  • Bootloader - 2.1 (old - 1.9)

Thanks, HPDeskjet, for the info

We know next week T-Mobile and Nokia have a little shindig here in NYC going on--we'll be there for that one, so don't fret. But in the meantime, you can rest assured that yes, it is indeed for the Nokia Lumia 710.

As it turns out, the actual manual for the device that comes with the phone is now online via the FCC. Scrolling through it reveals fairly standard information, but for one, it is obvious we're dealing with the 710, due to the diagrams for the phone. More revealing though is the picture above from that manual, which clearly shows a Nokia Windows Phone with T-Mobile branding on board. Doesn't get much more definitive than that, does it?

We know everyone wants the Lumia 800 (and we don't blame you). But having played with a 710 before, combined with T-Mos network, we'll definitely be picking this guy up for daily use. But which will be better? Radar 4G or the 710?

Nokia and T-Mobile are teaming up for an event Dec. 14 in New York City, and it looks like we might well get our first glimpse of some sweet, sweet Nokia Windows Phone love here in the United States.

As you'll recall, we've already seen the Lumia 710 pass the FCC with its AWS bands intact, so that's a strong bet. Hopefully we'll get the Lumia 800 here as well. We've got our invite in hand. Guess we'll see what's what in a week.

Beginning tomorrow, T-Mobile will be pushing out an update for their HTC Radar and HD7 phones.  The update adds a boost in performance and will resolve an error that occurs when some users try to activate Visual Voicemail.  While the Radar will also get the ability to download and customize ringtones, the real winner is the HD7, which will now connect to hidden WiFi networks and gain WiFi tethering.  Some folks, however, claim that they were able to tether after the previous update.

The patch will start making its way out into the ether tomorrow and must be installed via the Zune software to a USB-connected handset.

The website Daily Steals is offering the T-Mobile compatible Dell Venue Pro with 8GB of storage for $229 for the next...oooh 18 hours. Though the DVP gets some criticism, including no compass with Mango, it is still a solid phones in many ways and if you have some extra cash, $229 ain't so bad.

Or you could go to Dell and just buy the 16GB version for $299, making this an okay-but-not-amazing-deal. Or neither. Your choice.

T-Mobile HTC Radar 4G Review

While the curtain has been lifted for some time on the HTC Radar, it is still a fresh face on the Windows Phone market. The white/silver color scheme and unibody design makes the phone stand out amongst other Windows Phones. The lighter color pattern may extend the Windows Phone appeal to new users but how does the Radar hold up to other Windows Phones?

The Radar isn't just another pretty face amongst smartphones. With respect to design and feel, the HTC Radar can easily hold its own against other Windows Phones on available today. The aluminum unibody is curved to fit your hand comfortably while giving the Radar a quality build. The screen is vibrant, responsive and has a bit of a pop to it. While the color choice for the Radar may not appeal to everyone, there's no denying this is a well built Windows Phone.

We've put the Radar to use over the past few days and to see how this second generation Windows Phone has held up, bounce on past the break.

T-Mobile released the HTC Radar just a few days ago and we've gotten our grubby little hands on a review unit. First impressions? This Windows Phone is nice.

The HTC Radar is deceptively large with its rounded edges and feels really good in the hand. If I had to compare the Radar's feel to another Windows Phone it would be closest to the Focus but with a smoother and lighter feel to it. The 3.8" WVGA screen is nice in both appearance and responsiveness.

Not sure if many will like the small storage capacity (with preloaded stuff only 6.12GB free) and the white/silver color pattern does take some getting used to. Personally and at no fault of the Radar, I don't like the color pattern. I would much rather have seen this phone in gun metal, black or even light gray.

Color preference asides, the HTC Radar makes a very nice impression. The new Windows Phone feels good in the hand, is solidly built, and zips along rather nicely.  We've got the review unit for a few days, will take it out for a test drive and get a full review up shortly. If there's anything in particular you would like us to take note of, feel free to let us know in the comments. If it's possible, we'll add it to the review.

What could be better than a free WP7 phone?  How about making $100 on the deal?!  T-Mobile is running a promo on their WMDeals site where you can pick up a 4G HTC Radar for free (after rebate) with a 2-year agreement.  The phone comes with free 2-day shipping and no activation fee.

While this is reason enough to grab one, we are catching word that if you go through their trade-in page and enter the promo code "MSMango" you will receive a guaranteed $100 for any phone that you trade in, even something as simple as an old flip phone, as long as it is in working condition.  According to reports, the $100 comes in the form of a check that is mailed out after the phone is received.

If you are looking to upgrade, or get into the WP7 game, the HTC Radar is a solid phone, especially for this price.  We have not confirmed any of this, so by all means, let us know if it works.
